Alcohol is banned and not sold on Elcho Island for all those people saying they spend it on booze.... Also the ladies do take care of their land and houses as well as they can but imagine if you had 50 people tramping in and out of your house everyday. It would not be so clean either and in the end you would probably just give up.

I never knew how much racism aborigines experienced here in Australia, our family always valued them respected them... I just assumed most other families did as well. I will go out of my way to smile and be extra friendly if possible from now on because of what they had to face. Must be really terrible being victim of racism like that.

once you receive free things throughout your life, you become used to it so much that it starts to feel expected and it means very little. Me and my brothers were given everything(free house, free cars, free vacations) spoiled to the teeth. And we were treaty to boot, so I got free university tuition, free books/supplies & a 1,000/mth check as long as I attended college.

Now your talking. But they don’t want to up-skill the Aboriginal people because you can’t employ contractors to do the same job. You would be taking away jobs from white people. And this is not good for white people. Keeping Aboriginals down and out makes money for others…

They are in the bush right? If there was no whites in the country there would be no complaints of houses being too small because there wouldn't be any houses. Small communities have been offered to move to a more central hub where services and amenities can be provided but it is turned down by aboriginal elders as they want to stay where they are. I can understand and respect that, but there should be no complaints about what is not provided if there isn't a two way street.

If there were no whites, wed be freely kiving on our land, the fact youse colonized us that we have become accustomed to living in houses, my people are not allowed to live off of our own land, we are forced into your white society, they not only havent fully adapted to but just plainly dont want to adapt to, your white way is not THE way. If we had it our way we woukd be living off the land, not destroying it, polluting it, etc. Go along with yaself, their in a lose lose situation.

@@talarnieparsons713 I appreciate where you are coming from. I do agree completely that if aboriginal people were left to their own devices they would still be living off the land today, just like few tribes in other parts of the world still are. The sad truth that history shows us, is that if it was not the english that turned up on this land all those years ago, someone else would have and the results could have been better/worse but we will never know. To say aboriginals are forced to live in a white society is something i would have to disagree with. Aboriginals are more than welcome to live off the land, on elder land and by no means have to live in a house if they choose not to. Are you telling me if you had it your way, you would not want a computer, the one that you are typing on, or a car, house, electricity, healthcare and education to help better yourself and your family? If this is true, and you would prefer this life i get it, but unfortunately going back to my first point if it was not the english that turned up, someone else would have. I sincerely hope you have a bright future.
