Just did via paypal. Would love to get the tabs so I can work on this great tutorial. Many thanks
Thank you very much for your support. I'm sorry I haven't seen your message earlier as it has been attached to my post from 7 months ago. Unfortunately I don't produce tablature or standard notation, but for just playing the chords I think the sheets with chord diagrams should be sufficient. Those are all available on bossanovaguitar.com. If you register for video lessons I may also point you to some additional practice material. Thanks again and hope this helps.
Ivan Terestchenko yeah the chords and the rhythmic notation is just the same as tabs man! You know how to read those little charts right?
Programmi tv
bossanovaguitar hi there, can you do studio work?
oh my god man this is the greatest bossa nova lesson i've ever seen on the Internet! So complete, visually clear and directed to the point. good job and thank you very much! Great technique also.
Thank you for the kind words.
Still is in 2024!
Who or what is "your god?" Consider Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Blessibgs!!!
My mother is Brazilian but she does not like Bossa Nova, I will hopefully change her mind by playing the songs that you kindly posted on your channel Thanks a lot from Italy!
You're welcome. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Wish you luck! Ciao!
I'm 50 and have abandonned the guitar for years. I just came back to this instrument and your channel is just fantatsic to play with pleasure again. Thank you so much!
You're welcome. I'm really glad you did. I'm sure there are many bossa nova fans around that just didn't know where to start and I'm really happy to see that they can now play this wonderful music, like you do. Thanks for posting.
Best Guitar lesson on the Internet, hands down...
Thank you very much!
For real
I definitely need a sheet to memorise all those chords. Gonna have to pause this video at every chord change and write this down. Sounds lovely btw and I really dig the no-talk just-play style with two camera angles and the syncopation familiarity introduction. Really nice product and I shall definitely be coming back to your channel regularly!
There's no need to write down anything. All the chords are available on bossanovaguitar.com among song pages. Thanks for your nice comment.
Is the sheet music with chord charts on the website? For me to follow I need to read the chord charts along with the rhythm pattern changes. Thank you for your snappy reply and your service to guitar players like myself delving into rhythm - seems everyone's so fixated on showing off their complicated solo arrangements it's a real breath of fresh air to watch your videos, just what I've been looking for! I'm an intermediate level singer/rhythm guitarist hoping to learn a few of these numbers for chill cafe/lounge performances :) All the best,
Sam
For obvious reasons we will not provide exact copies of original music on bossanovaguitar.com. Our mission is to help players like yourself develop abilities to transcribe this music on their own. For this reason we have also provided a simple numbering scheme for describing rhythmic patterns and once you play those patterns for a sufficient number of times you should feel comfortable in identifying and using them arbitrarily in your playing.
Thanks for your input. All the chord charts are available on bossanovaguitar.com. It's the sheet music (exact transcriptions of copyrighted work) that we cannot publish. You may also play the videos in slow motion by selecting it from settings menu in CZcams player. At half speed it even plays with the sound stretched (without changing pitch). Good luck and stay tuned, there will be more videos soon.
You could actually slow down the playback on the video to your desired speed by clicking the 3 dots that is right above the screen
holy shit man this is the perfect guitar lesson format, you win the internet
That's very kind of you! Glad you like it!
It's extremely hard for me to understand ngl
My friend went to a conference in Brazil and when she came back we listened to some Brazilian music and found this incredible song. It's so pretty. Your video makes it incredibly clear how to play this song and I am now starting to play some of the most complicated guitar I ever played. Thank you so much!
This is the best guitar lesson on the tube. No talking, explaining. Just music!
Thank you very much!
If you play this rhythm with the original recording it's just spot on
All these tutorials are wonderful, really great job! It makes the bossa nova style very accessible by breaking the rhythmic phrases down like this and choosing different songs to showcase them. Obrigado!
I'm glad you find them useful. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
It took me a few months but I have learned enough chord shapes to go on to lesson 2! I hope one day to be able to perform bossa nova guitar as a side gig like I already do with jazz piano.
Beautiful chord voicings. Mahalo's for this lesson and for the great channel. One of my favorite classical guitar pieces, "Fantasia Sonata", by Joan Manen, uses these evocative chords voicings to great effect. After a career as a classical player, I've just been picked up by a booking agency in my state as a vocalist/guitarist and I found that people, (including myself), love Bossa Nova songs. This channel is going to be a great resource. Mahalo and aloha.

Now you're syncopating! Nice stuff. I thought Insensatez sounded too dry. But this is excellent. Thanks!

Muito obrigado!
Clássico incrível do Tom Jobim!!!
Obrigado!
Thank you so much for your videos I am in love with bossa nova
You're welcome. Thanks for your post.
My Bossa finally sounds a litlle better by watching your videos. Thanks. Would you encourage to paratice also around 1st position for the bar em7/5 ||| a7#5 ||| dm7 F9/G ||| etc That would imply playing some on the chords with a bass on 4th string but less movement on the neck so more fluid. Also i saw in the Bossa Book that these chords were recommended but until i played on a classical guitar, the sound was not good. Cheers
Thank you! I would encourage to practice different positions, then you can choose whatever suits you. When playing staccato I generally avoid open bass strings, makes it easier to perform clean chord change because you don't have to mute the open string with your right hand.
Many thanks! Straight to the point and very effective lesson! Loved it!
I'm glad you did. Thanks for your comment.
I sent a pvt msg to you. Please, confirm if you received it. Best regards!
I did and I replied. In case you haven't received it, please feel free to do as you suggested. Thank you for your effort and your interest. Cheers!
Beautiful music, that I've always wanted to know how to play. Thank you.
You're welcome! Thanks for your post.
Thank you. Very generous
You're welcome!
I came from your site though I'm playing it on the piano, and although I cannot do this on the guitar, this is so beautiful. Although this was only a tutorial, I love listening to it.
Then perhaps it's time for you to start learning guitar :) Thanks for your comment.
bossanovaguitar haha, I could only wish for it to happen sooner. Although I did try already, not with this sort of advanced plucking/picking (I really am a beginner at this) and I was thrilled that I at least am able to position my fingers.
Excellent presentation thank you, but whole thing needs to be slowed down, then finished at correct speed. Can be emulated but with A Lot of Work.
I meant no disrespect. You're right, Gilberto doesn't syncopate the guitar on Insensatez, and it really is the perfect vehicle for that basic phrase. I dig your site very much :)
No offence taken. I'm really glad that you find my work useful. You're of course right about syncopation, that's why I have chosen Insensatez for the basic phrase lesson. Thanks for your comments.
Im learning guitar becouse of you, thank you, the best of the best lessons Ive ever seen. Do you have a plan to continue?
That's very kind of you, thank you very much. I wish you all the success in your journey. Of course I'll continue with this channel, more lessons will come soon, so stay tuned and good luck!

Thank you very much!
Thank you
Your lessons are just Fantastic. Thank you
Could you explain how to use the numbers of the rythmic phrases 1212, 1213, 4444 etc…?
It must have to do with the fingers of the right hand but how to use it ?
Thank’s again for the quality of your teaching.
OMG, great tutorial!!!!
Thank you very much!
Very good! It is very important to highlight the rhythmic tempo
bossa nova. 2/4 ...

Thank you very much!
Wow excellent videos I got to understand quite a few things! Nice website too!!!
Thank you!

Gilberto is starting a phrase by playing chord and bass together for the most part. He is also in a lower key and playing different chords. Have you thought of making a tutorial where you play it like Gilberto?
During his long performing career Gilberto recorded this song many times. The chords and phrases in this lesson are based on his first few recordings, the one from O Amor, o Sorriso e a Flor and the one from Getz/Gilberto. Both of them are played in A. Thanks for your post.
Muito bom, show! Obrigado 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Merci beaucoup!
You are awesome...
Thank you very much.
Excelente lección!!!!!
Muchas gracias!
This is a great video lesson! I'm trying hard to learn this tune.
The last 16 note phrase 1213, is that when you make the change to the next chord, just before the measure starts?
That's correct. Chord changes on the last beat of the measure or phrase happen often in bossa nova, especially in Joao Gilberto's interpretations. Note that in some phrases a chord change may even occur on the last beat of 4-beat pattern (a quarter note). In Corcovado it occurs in phrases 1244 and 4244 that appear towards the end of the song. Thanks for your input and good luck with learning.
tabs start at 1:09
Thanks!
Hi, I can't figure out the Gdim chord. How are the fingers placed on the third fret? This is an excellent tutorial though. Thank you!!
Felicitaciones!!!
It's you, not your guitar. Muchas gracias.
Perfect!
Many thanks!
Awesome
Thanks.
Thank you for this excellent lesson. I can't help but wonder: what key is 'Corcovado' in? I'm tempted to say C major since there is Am, G7, and Dm7, but at the same time there is also Fm and D7.
Thanks for your comment. Jobim-Gilberto played it from Am. Jobim also played it from Am in several recordings of his own and with Elis Regina.
Molto obrigado! 👏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
De nada! Thank you!
Nice video, thanks!! Here my question:
I am a flamenco guitar player and a few months ago I starded to learn Bossa Nova Nova and I like it a lot too. But on my flamenca blanca guitar Bossa sounds a little 'hard'.
Which nylon string guitar would you recomand me to buy for Bossa Nova, if had 2000 euro left? Thank you!
Glad to have you onboard Stefan. The guitar I use for the clips is Yairi CY140 with cedar top, that is known to have rather "dark" sound. I compensate for this darkness by using carbon fiber strings that make the sound a bit brighter. This somehow makes for the best of both worlds, but the selection of the top is certainly not the only factor that determines the guitar sound so my advice would be to only trust your ears and go to try as many guitars as you can and pick the one you like the best. I'm not going to mention any other brand here, but if you need additional info please send me a PM, either here or register to bossanovaguitar.com. Hope that helps, and thanks for posting here.
Anyone care to explain how the numbers on the rhythmic phrases work?
The numbers system is just a shorthand that refers to the 4 beat rhythmic pattern (also presented with standard notation). It's explained in details on bossanovaguitar.com site. Thanks for your input.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by numbers. Did you refer to finger numbers or fret numbers?
Excelente.
Muito obrigado!
