The food bank's and huge food drives here in North Texas are amazing. I help out a few days on the big ones and girl we load up their cars, trunks. The giving people here in Texas are amazing. The women here in Dallas, Plano,Ft Worth even open up a big shop for the prom, free dresses, free shoes, free hair styles, cuts. Nails. We have alot of very rich people here that truly give. Good people.

Wow so much from the food bank. Amazing. We are only two people but got so much food from our Salvation Army recently. 4 huge bags frozen blueberries 🫐 2 huge backs chicken. 4 huge bags grated cheddar cheese . So much canned food and a whole cake and 2 packages of frosted fudge brownies. Many fresh fruits and veggies. Was such a shock to receive so much help. What a blessing.

We use cream cheese in my potato soup. Creamy potato soup is literally one of the best soups. 4 cups diced potatoes cook in 4 cups chicken broth, with 1tsp. season salt, 1/4 tsp. white pepper and 1/4 tsp. paprika. Cook until potatoes are soft. Then mix in 8oz.of soften cream cheese. Stir until it is completely melted. It's delicious! 😊

I love pig feet! I cut mine into big chunks with a heavy cleaver, boil a minute and toss that water (get rid of scummy foam) and then slow cook them all day on low. Along with the water, about a thumb of ginger, in big slices, a bunch of dried giant white beans, and salt. If I am in a hurry (like I'm eating it same day), I might add some pork stock to make sure the pork flavor comes through. Scoop it over a bowl of rice and dig in. Perfection! If you want something more lively, you can also make a dip for the pork. Dice some fresh chilis, cilantro, chives, pour in a splash of black vinegar and a splash of soy sauce. As you eat the soup with rice and beans, pull the pork out and dip it for spicy, savory hits of flavor!

We use it for our potato soup and to cook with green beans, potatoes, and hock meat. Perfect for barbecue like you made. We have even cut it up in small bite and put in our cornbread. As far as donating, I really wish I knew I could donate my garden veggies to a food bank because we were literally overwhelmed this year. Especially with English Cucumbers, squash, and heirloom tomatoes. My family decided to give us a ton of baby plants they got from a farmers market after we had already planned and started our garden. I don't like to kill plants, so I made room. There was a lot this year that went to the compost pile.

My Grandmother used to quarter the green tomatoes with a few pods of hot pepper and they were so good we always loved them with dried beans and cornbread best meal ever. We were raised with not a lot of money so we only had meat on Sunday. But whatever she cooked was always so good and at times we had cabbage with the mildly hot canned green tomatoes. I was glad at how she raised us to be thankful for the food she cooked and we never went to bed hungry. With leftover mashed potatoes she would add some diced onions and make potato and make fried potato patties. With leftover biscuits she would half them and fry them in some butter and they were so good those little things that were leftovers she made something really good and we never went hungry. I sure miss her cooking. Plus with leftover rice she would make rice pudding . So you remind me a lot of her. Plus you precious kids they are growing up learning new foods you come up with and they will not be picky eaters. God bless you and your precious family and for sharing your knowledge!

I would also have taken that "bad" produce. So much you can do if you know how to preserve food.

I got a bunch of freezer containers from Amazon and when I have bulk items I portion and freeze in those. I was able to get gallon bags of liquid cheese at a discount store couple weeks ago and I just portioned into those bowls and popped into freezer.

I love cabbage for slaw, grandmaw called it fried cabbage when she would fry it in the frying pan instead of boiling it plus she made her own kraut or add it to homemade soup with other leftovers she let nothing go to waste.

Nice for! Macintosh apples make for delicious homemade applesauce I like to add cinnamon to mine to make it extra tasty If I received cream cheese in a block that large I would use an electric knife to cut it down in portioned squares.Freeze in individual baggies For those meals you want to add it to or extra b aking.

Awesome haul, love the pig foot!! I like to use hocks (in a soup sock) when I'm doing a batch of baked beans. Then I take it out and pull off the meat without losing any loose bones in. Pigs...😋😆

As soon as I mentioned "smoked ham hocks" when talking about making ham and bean soup, I got the "eeewe!" sound from people. Now all I do is say I'm cooking a smoked ham and bean soup, then I get "oh, that will be good!".

My food bank won't let you volunteer if you get groceries there because it looks like you're working for your food. Volunteering really gave me something to do.

That is sad... I know that volunteering makes me feel SO much better. Giving back with your time when you don't have a lot else to give.. wish they'd give people the opprotunity.

The food pantries in our county let the guests volunteer after they go through a very short orientation and if they are needed. Our community, especially retirees, are big into volunteering
