There's a big difference between not knowing and being a dummy. You know you are learning from someone who knows and cares. That makes you not a dummy and Nate the Master.
I don't know if you have seen it, but Craig explains his actions better than Graeme when he is given a chance. He is also easier to understand because he isn't trying to be a comedian too.
@@stevestoterau6261your opinion only mate which does not make it a fact. That is just his personality, probably many people wouldn’t like yours or mine either but why make that sort of comment at all?
Hi there I'm John from England I just want to say I think people need to let you do your job instead of putting down stupid comments thinking they know best when they don't you're a vet you've trained for this and you've done this hundreds of times before so anyone reading this don't put any stupid comments just let this guy do what he's doing he knows what he's doing he does it successfully and carry on and he's really good to see the end result which is the cows not in discomfort anymore or in pain carry on knife the hoof Guy
Yeah I know that I know you ok he's not a vet but he just does the trimming of the herbs but still it still the fact of the matter is that people are telling him what you should do and how he should do it he's been doing this long enough but just to give you a little education lesson you still have to train to do these sort of things dimwit you or me couldn't just go up to a cow and start doing what he does because we wouldn't have a clue and we probably end up injuring the towel so you do have to have training and what I'm saying all the people sending you messages and saying why don't you do this or why don't you do that they should just keep quiet because they're not trained in doing that ok bloody Americans
I gotta say it. I've been watching Graeme's videos for a year or so now. Then today you showed up in my recommendations! I was so happy to have another hoof trimmer to watch. I'm not sure why I find this so fascinating. I was raised on a cattle ranch, but beef cattle usually don't need this service. (Our horses did, but we did that chore ourselves.) I was never around dairy cattle except for the ones over the years that we kept as a milk cow. So anyway, ya got a new subscriber today, Nate. I hope U.S. dairies are as fascinating as the ones in Scotland I've been watching. God bless 💜
I mean, I dont blame the cow for being nervous. Her foot already hurts, then she goes in a box, a bunch of straps go around her body and leg, and a human starts messing around with her sore foot. I dont know much about cow cognition, but I wonder if they have enough cause and effect to understand "go in box, human messes with foot = foot feels better".
They may not realize that you are helping them the first time, but after a couple of timessssss, she will become your best friend and actually start following you around if you anywhere she is free to do so,
Great video Nate. A good explanation on how the rock was impeded in the sole. As a person that provides sand to dairy farms I know how important it is to keep rocks and other contaminates out of our loads. These cows can be huge, and even small rocks on concrete floors can be a hazard.
That isn’t kind. Graeme and Nate have different styles, but they both want to do the best they can for the cows. I doubt that Nate enjoys comments that thank him by insulting someone else.

These nasty comments are really unnecessary but I’m sure that they make you feel that your opinion matters. It doesn’t so maybe keep them to yourself unless you’re going to say something nice.
Well that's one of the very few videos about this kind of work thàt I have ever heard ( and understood ) THANKY YOU SO MUCH . WELL DONE SIR ! ! !🇨🇦👍👍🐅🐅
This is very satisfying to watch. The work is much like that of a dentist's, who also removes extra material around the edges of a cavity and makes sure there's no more room for infection in a tooth.
Why is this so fascinating? Holy cow!!! Once you finished this, is that hoof only contacting the ground with the half that you glued the block to? And then once the half that you just trimmed becomes even with the other half, you remove the block? Sorry, I live in downtown Toronto. I have no idea why my brain wants to know how this works, but for some reason, it does. It makes me want to live on a working farm for a month so I can better understand animals.
I'm curious do you ever work on other animals with hooves or do you specialize in cows? I'm from the city but I find it so fascinating seeing you helping these cows and learning so much about what goes on under their hoof. You got me thinking about sheep, horses, goats....and even bulls....lol do you ever have to work on bull hooves? Thank you for this channel!
I can only imagine that a stone that size with such a sharp point is like when we step on the prongs on sockets. The noise of pain I let out when you pulled it out! Bet she's feeling miles better after that.
I dont know if its been said before, but why dont you or shouldn't/cant quickly "wash" the hoof instead of using your knife, likely making it blunt faster? would washing it also soften the hoof like our nails and thats bad? i dont know im just asking :)
I know in the past videos. He has stated that he has multiple knives with him so he's not too worried about chipping one. He cares more about it when there's a lot of smaller rocks if I remember correctly. That's when you're more likely to damage them. Let's just based off of the videos I've watched
You’re awesome!!!! I’ve never seen this before . That must be so uncomfortable for the cow. You’re really really awesome and well done on double and triple checking it . Not that I know anything about this, but it makes sense !!!😊
Nate - Is this treatment covered in the farm’s contract with you for hoof care, or do you charge extra for more involved trims that may include follow-ups?
Epoxy?!! Why not cement? 😂 Lots of great suggestions from the gallery. Seriously, though, that was a very sharp rock. Do dairy farmers have to rake the area of the barn floor for rocks, or is it just a routine hazard that cows can pick up rocks? I assume that it's not as much of a problem in the pasture because the rock is more likely to sink into the soft ground than into the cow's hoof. Ouchie, though. Poor cow. I hope she heals well so the corkscrew can be fixed in future trimmings. Good video, Nate, as usual.
Question: When you grind down the tip of the claw I feel like you are getting rid of the outer weight-bearing material leaving only the soft stuff for support the front of the hoof ….what am I missing? [I have NO experience, just a city-person fan ❤]
This might be a silly question, but do cows get stones in their soles purely because of how heavy they are? I've gotten stones stuck in my shoes countless times, is this the same sort of thing or are the different layers of hoof more or less susceptible to getting stones stuck in them?
I really enjoy your videos (been watching them for a few years now). My profession is in the ‘Energy Utilities industry’ i.e. natural gas and electricity. I have no experience or knowledge of how to manage the health and wellbeing of livestock/cattle (let alone mitigating hoof issues). That being said; I am very confused as to why you don’t first hose off or scrub clean or even pressure wash these heifers hooves.. before you start paring away with your knife? 🤷🏻♂️
