- Hey Guys!
In this video I go over the design and construction of my garden bed design for my lovely wife Jess at Roots and Refuge.
This is the 3rd version of these beds and I hope you get a lot of useful tips and information out of this video for your own garden bed projects.
Thanks for stopping in!
Miah
Idk who’s more excited about this channel, me or my hubby. I showed this to him yesterday and he said “heck yeah, finally…farmers with honey-do lists UNITE ✊🏼”
🤦🏻♀️😂 Not that we women won’t be doing some of these things as well when need be, but I want to give a huge shout out to our men folk…we appreciate y’all and all the hard work y’all put in! I couldn’t do it without my own Sweet Beau 💯☺️
I actually clicked off one of Jessica's videos before it was over for the first time ever! 🙂
Indeed! My husband Ryan is happy to build anything my crazy brain comes up with. He is so sweet, he got really excited when I said Miah had his own channel haha
@@bluebirdhomestead hummm how much free time does your husband have? I can supply a list.
@@MissBetsyLu Haha I do keep him pretty busy ;)
@@bluebirdhomestead I'm muttering ' sure, you say that now. '
Forwarded to my husband for his “honey do” list. You gave him all the information he needs and more! Thank you so much. God bless you!
😂 dito
😂😂
I’m the handy’man’. My husbands more of a mechanic than a builder. Guess I consider myself the builder AS LONG AS I have directions. Video directions or build with me is preferred but not required. 😂😅
Same! 😆
Lol I did the exact same thing!
Hehege ya I am afraid for the lady to see this
YAY! Now I can DOUBLE my addiction to Roots and Refuge!! Congrats on the new channel Miah...THANK U for helping guide us all to building our own little patch of heaven ...MUCH APPRECIATED 😊
So glad you decided to start your own channel Miah. Your contributions to the farm need to be showcased because you do such a fantastic job. Everything is looking amazing! Congratulations on your new channel and praying for your continued success! 🙏
"Double Dose", Miah's Workshop and Roots and Refuge Farm! Now that's "medicine" for the heart and soul! Great job, Miah and truly appreciated. Much love and God bless.
I wonder how many partners are receiving this post with a heart ❤️
Hello Miah, congratulations. I have learned so much from you over the years. I recently experienced an unexpected divorce (after 38 years of marriage, my husband informed me he wants to date). So, I will be doing a lot of building things myself, because I am starting a small urban farm here in California. I will keep watching and learning. I am an elementary school teacher, and Master Gardener. Yet, Miah, You are my "Master Teacher!" Happy Sunday to you, and your family, please tell Jess, "Hello from California. I Love tomatoes too!"
@Martha where in California are you located? I’m in the SFO South Bay Area getting ready to move to Tennessee.
@@Taking_Back_Thyme Hello, I am located on the central coast, the Monterey area. Congratulations on your move...
I'm sorry your husband did that. I was married for just under five years when my husband came home and informed me he didn't think we should be married anymore. I can't imagine experiencing that after being married as long as you were. Best of everything as you move forward in life.
@@LulaMae21 Thanks, and I am sorry for your experience with your husband. I am trusting God, and trying to stay focused on living a really good calming life, have an awesome day! Martha
Hey, How are you? I'm a teacher (reading coach this year). My husband passed away in 2019. I've asked the Abundance community to hold a woodworking class for inexperienced, but want to build things. There's nothing like someone showing you how do things, but I need guidance to try to do it myself.
That's beautiful and much more simple to do than I thought! Thanks for the great sourcing tips, too. For those if us just starting out with little to no building experience, I would love to see basic tool use. Squaring up corners would be extremely helpful! Thank you, Miah for staying your channel! You are a wonderful teacher!🎉
Yes, this! I need info on the basics too!
Me too! Also price range for the components. Great job being specific about some things but I'm curious how much this would set a non-homesteader back for 1 or 2 beds as a start.
Agree - actually seeing video of how you do the details with a little more explanation would be a great help, including the mitre saw. Been gardening in-ground for decades but building these beautiful beds requires tools and materials new to me. SO GLAD you posted this video, I've gone through all of Jess's at the new farm looking for where I missed this!
@@LibraryAce A lot of the material prices are likely to vary by location, though I agree it can be helpful to get an idea.
Take a measurement from corner to corner diagonally lengthwise. Example, number your corners 1, 2, 3, and 4. The measurement from corners 1 to 3, should equal measurement from corners 2 to 4. If
not, push in on 1 of the corners on the longer measured corners until both measurements equal each other. I know this answer is a year old, but I hope it still helps. Good luck in your garden.
We Roots and Refuge ladies recognize each other out in the world by our t-shirts. Now when we are out driving through the countryside, we will be able to recognize other R&R fans by their raised beds!! Very cool!! Thanks for the how-to.
I'm planning on purchasing one this coming week and that was one of my first thoughts!! I wonder how many ladies here in Canada will be too?!
Very Bob Ross “this is your garden bed, build it with any shape or material that you like” 😊
My wife and I have been watching your videos with our Sunday morning coffee for a few years now and I can’t tell you how THRILLED I am to see this new channel Miah! We’re just north of y’all in NC and have been gardening for about 4 years now using your videos for inspiration! Can’t wait to see more content and support from all your viewers!
These beds are so beautiful!! ❤
We built raised beds just like this, from leftover scraps from building a pole barn.
This is exactly what I wanted to know more about. We’re going to build raised beds and I’d like to know how you did these. Thank you for sharing!
Me over here "HONEY GET IN HERE MIAH HAS HIS OWN CHANNEL!!!!"
Him: "Who???"
Me: "MIAH! Jess' Husband from Roots and Refuge!!!"
Him: "Great..... there goes MY weekends for the next 50 years...."
I'm SO EXCITED! Thank you Miah for supporting Jess in such a wonderful way - and now we get to support you!
This video is so timely! I was JUST wishing I knew how to build these raised beds while on Jess's channel. Thank you so much!
Me too & seen the title was like wait thats Miah he can build anything I better watch and learn.
Great idea to tack together with the air nailer before putting all the screws in....that would have saved me so much time in most of the projects I've completed so far in my garden. Will be using that method in the future for sure.
So excited, I’ve been waiting for this video! Now to send it to my husband so he can build them for me! 🤣😜
Cool, thanks! I will show this to my husband and see if he will build me some raised beds.🤗
I like the look of the black mixed with the wood!
Yay Miah! Proud of you and this leap of faith! We appreciate you. 😊
Ok Jeremiah! I feel like i can tell Robert all he has to do is make my cuts because I can build my new beds myself now!!
Definitely a fan! You guys are my favorite people on CZcams!
Your beds are a work of beauty.
That gas post driver is my kind of tool!
Good luck with your new channel! Miah is a natural, he looks great! You make a beautiful couple! Sending love & blessings!
"plant all the stuff" 🤣🤣 💖
Thank you for putting yourself in front of the camera to share this part of the garden we all love so much. Excited to learn.
MIAH!!!! Wheeerrre aaarrre yoouu?! All good man? All of your videos are awesome. I speak for the people when I say we have tasted the greatness of this channel and fervently request more! Thank you for your content :)
Wonderful video, Miah. I have always marveled at your carpentry skills. Keep the videos coming. Susan B, Cypress, Texas
Wonderful vlog. I have struggled with the center of my beds bowing out. I used wood to tie the 2 center supports together. I found that because they touch the soil, they rot out quickly.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Miah I know you don't like being in the spotlight but I'm so glad you are. You've saved me untold misery, frustration and disappointment. I am currently building beds and never even thought about needing to add the supports pounded into the ground. Thank you so much, I know for sure this was a huge help!!!
Well, it looks like I'm calling some shed making places today! Thanks Miah!
I'm so excited that you've finally launched your channel! Been looking forward to seeing your infrastructure builds for a long time.
The lumber you're using here is particularly gorgeous.
Beautiful and structural garden beds Miah. Thank you for detailing your process for us and sharing your experience 😊
Yaaaay! So happy you made the time to share with us. Looking forward to future videos. 😊
Awesome job Miah! I have been waiting on this video! We have a hodpodge of raised beds- some metal, some brick, some wood. But when we move I’d like some more uniform beds. Thank y’all!!
These raised beds are beautiful! Great job, Jeremiah . Thank you for showing how you made them. It would be a dream of mine to have a couple of days here one day. I'm so thankful for this video so I can show someone and maybe it can happen. You sure know your beautiful wife Jessica heart. Thank you for being such a testimony of the love language to Jess
We used your design three years ago reusing old pool decking. Our beds have served us very well! We have repurposed two old galvanized watering troughs as our herb and kitchen garden. Thanks from Searcy, AR
I commented earlier about my husband liking your raised bed design. Sitting here at Eater dinner and observing him share his design with his brother and planning what they are going to build next weekend. Thank you so much!
We had some leftovers from a bulld. Seen your video and my husband and I built one proto garden bed. Can’t tell you how happy I am with it as we are moving from a farm to the city. I can still have a garden even if we get to new place early summer. Thank You!
Thank you Miah for sharing your knowledge and skills with us!!
Longtime watcher of R&R, but have never commented. I wanted to show my support of this scary venture. Proud of you! It is hard to put yourself out there! Give yourself grace, and keep your chin up!
Thank you, Miah!
Yay Miah, so happy to start watching you. 🎉
Loved seeing the design and engineering process behind these lovely garden beds. Great job, Miah!
Those beds are so perfect, and look lovely with the greenhouse! Your skill plus Jess's design are a match made in heaven! 💕
Beautiful work and finished piece.
Miah, what a happy surprise CZcams suggesting your new channel this morning. My husband is thrilled 😁😂 Cheers from 🇨🇦
Sweet Miah, this is awesome! So glad you are doing a new channel. Just a fair warning 😅 Husband's of Roots and Refuge followers are a little concerned about how many "to do" lists are going to come from this. Oh and feel free to share the first greenhouse build. That is going on the list 😂
You are awesome Miah!
Miah, thanks for sharing the process you used to build the beautiful garden beds!
All the way from Ontario Canada! It’s so nice to have a Man about the house! Whoo Mia
Hi Miah, thanks so much for sharing this build! I've loved the look of these beds ever since you guys installed them and have always wondered about the construction. Appreciate it!
AWESOME JOB!!! THX FOR SHARING!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Man I'm going to every Amish builder around here and buying!👍👊
Yeah! My husbands next project!!!! Gracias!
Beautiful start. 🥳Miah, you got this! Have fun & enjoy the ride! We'll be here to eat up the R&R mixed content for certain. ❣🤟
Those beds are absolutely beautiful. Wore me out just watching you do the build.
The lumber is so beautiful for that build.
My husband watched over my shoulder. This fave him sime ideas. Excellent job Sweet Miah!!!
I was waiting for this video to come out. I'm so glad you are launching your own. That means a little more videos from Roots and Refuge to enjoy and learn from.
Thank you Micah for the video. I've always admired Jessica's garden. It nice to see how you make these.
Excited to see you start your new channel and help new raised bed gardeners get some ideas for building. Thanks for your help!
Congrats on the new channel. Always loved when you made videos while Jess was unavailable.
You are an amazing man Miah, you are very good at what ever you build, I love it all 👍🌟👍
Love your sharing behind the scenes. Love watching your family!
Yeah! Mia for finally taking that step! So proud to see you out here! Looking forward to your further lessons! Congratulations!
Yeah! Way to go Miah! Love to watch your videos!
Thank you for starting this channel. I enjoy watching all aspects of the homestead so this is an added bonus. You do awesome work!
Great idea how you did the cardboard and weed fabric combination…..Jess is a very lucky girl!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Love watching you. I was just outside with ny husband and contemplating how to make beautiful raised beds then I seen your video. Again thank you
Yay!!! So happy to have found this. My husband loved your set up and wants to replicate it for me. Thanks Miah! 🎉
Thank you brother, this video was perfect. We are going to build our raised beds exactly the same way. Love the content.
YAAAAAAAY!!! I’m so excited that your channel has gotten started. Thank you for sharing.
Didn't know you have this channel, congratulations 🙌 you n Jess are awesomely blessed 🙌
It’s about time you started building videos. Looking forward to learning how everything gets built 😊
These raised beds make planting so much easier. The days of on your knees and hurting your back are a thing of the past. These give the gardener a place to sit too. You are a good man to do this for your spouse.
Your raised beds have come a long way since the early days in Arkansas. I love that your first beds were built with scrap metal and live wood posts as I love the rustic appeal but THESE beds are gorgeous! They look fabulous around the greenhouse and the whole garden space is just amazing. Excellent job on all of it! Glad you're sharing your skills on your new channel. God bless! P.S. We just rented a gas powered post pounder last week. Now it's on the must purchase list. 😆 Total game changer.
We have one of the gas powered t post drivers, they are AWESOME!!
Badass music!
Congrats Miah on getting your own channel up and running! I am excited to follow your adventures around the homestead. 😃
You really built those beds strong. you do good quality work. I hope Jess appreciates it. Congratulations on your new channel. I often wonder how you do all that you do. Ilove your work ethic and I wish I had your skills. God bless you and your family.
Awesome! Thank you! Adding that gas powered post hole driver to my wish list!
CONGRATULATIONS Miah!!! Look forward to many videos from you🎉🎉🎉😊
You answered all my questions within minutes of them coming to me. Really good coverage of information.
Nice clear steps. I especially appreciate your process of decision making and refining the design and assembly. You give options so we can adjust for our needs. 👍
Those are well built! Dang! I'm learning more from your videos than any diagram I've tried to look up, I'm a visual learner like Jess, I appreciate you so much 😅
I tried to wait to build my own beds to get your design but I couldn't wait so I designed my own loosely based on Justin Rhodes. I didn't realize the black was metal....but my next ones will look like these! Mine are all redwood cuz it's way cheaper than cedar in CA. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS OUT AND WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST ON YOUR NEW CHANNEL!
I’ve been patiently waiting for your channel! This is exactly how I want to build my beds! Thank you for explaining every single step!
Not going to lie, that gas powered post driver ruined my whole day. Years of post driving ptsd came flooding back and now I’m filled with regret for not owning such a marvelous machine. My body hurts just thinking about it. 🥲
I’m glad you started a channel! I’ve wanted to see this exact build since y’all moved. Keep up the solid work man.
I picked up some good ideas from you today! Thanks!
I am so excited for your channel! You and Jess balance each other so well with you’re points of view! I know it’s probably tough to take on another thing right now, so thank you so much for taking the time to make videos and teach us along the way!
Thanks for the video. I built two raised beds for myself so far but you have just given me the proper way to build them. I will be building them like yours next time and probably replace the two I have already built like yours. They really look nice too. Your video was well produced also and you are good at explaining things. Thanks again.
Awesome job!!! Happy to see your side of the roots and refuge family!! God bless
I appreciate you doing your channel. I learn alot just by watching your videos and it helps me with some of my processes that I am implementing on my own homestead.
Thank you! Instructions are clear. Like the way you solved the problem of soil leaking out by running the roofing vertically.
Miah’s channel up and running!!💖
I admired those garden beds and was curious about what you used for the side panels...it looked like wood! They're beautiful... thanks so much for sharing. Great tips on securing it in place without using concrete too!!
Great information Miah! You've given me ideas. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your YT channel! 😁
So excited for you and your channel!! Love you guys!! I pray God’s blessing on you!!
