      Enjoy your time in the spotlight, tarver..
      But...
      Stop pretending you're in Roy's class. You're not...
      You caught a diminished Roy after that
      25lbs of fast twitch muscle loss in pursuit of becoming heavyweight champ. Why did he have to lose the muscle? Just so he could go back down to light heavy and defend the belt. And tarver STILL loss the first fight. What That tells me is, had Roy fought tarver in his prime he wipes the floor with tarver, however many times they would of fought...
      But he didn't. And the rest is history...
      Enjoy your spotlight.

      I don't blame it on the weight; he just got older and lost some of his greatest gift - speed. In boxing, losing a .10 of a second in speed can be monumental, especially when you aren't known to be the most fundamental fighter. Roy routinely fought with his hands down because his speed and elusiveness allowed him to get away with it. As he got older his opponents were able to find him more and more. If he was a more fundamental fighter, he would have been able to extend his career and take less damage (e.g. B-Hop, Floyd). Roy is still one of my favorite fighters of all time. He and Floyd are the only two boxers I've ever paid to watch.

Like you, I now see a guy who properly credits Roy and respects him. 🔹 FOUR KINGS Accurately Assessed 🔸 Marvin is #1 because his gladiatorial consistency, longevity and dominance is unmatched by the other three contemporaries. Marv’s ambidextrous ability was a weapon his opponents could not righteously prepare for. Mr. Hagler went undefeated in rematches which shows his adaptability prowess. He chased high risk rivals in the 1970’s to earn his boxing name Marvelous, which is his legal first name. Many don’t know that Marv walked into the Petronelli AC in 1969 at age 16, weighing 159lbs. His dedication was so unparalleled, that on the morning of his final fight with SRL in 1987, he weighed-in at said weight. Whereby, further demonstrates and educates that the same-day weigh-in [ is a bonafide pre-fight weigh-in procedural methodology ]. When examined throughly, Marv possessed a noble grade discipline that shields pugilists who dedicate themselves, in fact, contribute to their healthfulness during and post career. You can also learn from Marv’s films. These are facts that make boxing marketable to schools, healthcare and in global households - as a gladiatorial embodiment, with purposefulness and principles. Contrary to the Rocky series, which utterly demotes boxing as a brand because this collective utterly portrays boxing as crude. Alongside, Muhammad Ali not learning boxing science, his entire boxing life-span incurred him health complications from [ his amateur ] start to [ professional ] finish, whereby also regressed boxing significantly- in global households, healthcare and schools. 🗝 A great fighter must NOT detract his profession, their careers must also teach future pugilists improvements through their combat film collection, whereupon, must also embody healthfulness. Mr. Hagler’s career promotes boxing’s integrity fabric, marvelously. MMH is also an exemplary model that boxing is safer than perceived, when taught and managed wisely. A boxer’s self-control and gratitude for his craft is an uncommon topic and very much under appreciated today. Roberto Duran comes in second because he once had the consistency, but his longevity is very much interrupted with [ his ] being undisciplined at times, even though his career lasted over a longer period and he performed inside boxing science. Thirdly, is SRL because his overachieving, stems from that he conquered all three. However. what weakens Ray verses Marv and Roberto’s careers are that his career is inside 40 bouts, which highlight he did not encounter the intricate gladiatorial temperatures as they did. One can learn masterfully from Mr. Leonard’s and Mr. Duran’s films. In fourth place is Mr. Hearns because he came up short when it mattered, while taking Marv and Ray to the brink of destruction. His knockout of Roberto was his ‘saving grace’ per se because that win and the second bout with SRL solidifies his name and brand inside this group. People have to have factual reasons when evaluating contemporaries, not opinions. ©️ Coach Hilario 2020 JOIN Boxing Ring Chess™️ apple.co/2Shy9j2

      @@isaacc3307 That's exactly how it went. Basically at 33 Roy moved up from light heavyweight to heavyweight to win the WBA belt from Ruiz, and after that had plans to fight either Tyson or Holyfield. But it didn't happen. Holyfield refused and for Tyson was Roy that said no to 20 millions because it was too little if I remember correctly. Anyway he decided then to move back to light heavyweight but at 34 and after a long career that killed him. Especially because he did it in the span of 6 months wich is crazy at that level and at that age. Even in the first fight with tarver you can clearly see that Roy is washed up, I watched it again recently. And I know there's people saying that many great fighters used to move up and down in weight without problems, like the great Archie Moore or Henry Armstrong. But you can't generalize, you gotta look at the data. First, it's different for everyone. Some people like Pacquiao are freaks of nature. Other suffer from moving weight. Also, it counts when you do it in your career, the age and how far are you in your prime. You look at Archie Moore for example, he moved from heavyweight back to light heavyweigh in 1 year. Jones did it in 6 months. Finally you gotta consider the style of fighting. Fighters that count predominantly on speed are the first affected because that goes away way quick. For his many natural talents Roy always fought quite in an awkward way, not covering himself, with his left hand down at his waist, or both hands down. As soon as his speed left him he could be clipped in the jaw quite easily. Anyway that's what i think, not to take anything away from Tarve he will always be the one that closed the career of a HOF champion like Roy Jones Jr. Peace!

    • @isaacc3307
      @isaacc3307 Před 4 lety

      @@micheleazzu I think for sure that's partially the case. But roy said previously that he wasn't going to fight sparring partners anymore because they know his patterns after winning a close call with the "honey boy" who dropped in for the first time in his pro career. (I THINK it was the first time in his pro career. There might have been another instance really early on.) So I think Tarver always just had jones number. Of course jones would still win 9 times out of ten in his prime but Jones always knew tarver knew how to neutralize him. Hence why he was SUPPOSED to stick to the plan of not fighting sparring partners anymore but didn't and paid the price.

  • @Steelersbaby

    @ champ pride- Preach my dude!!! When I point out the type of things u pointed out about Roy, it's as if I'm dissing Tupac. An if u know anything about bringing up Pacs name in any type of comparisons that's not in a positive light, u know you're about to get blasted in the worst way from all of his fans. An here's the kicker, I'm the biggest Pac fan. He is by far an away my favorite rapper. I'm the biggest Roy fan. He's by far one of my favorite fighters. The problem comes in when u decide to critique these guys an highlight their flaws. Even if u loved these guys, u gotta admit to their flaws. When u said "Roy never really had fundamentals" that was an is the gospel. When u think about the best an most popular boxers they DON'T have a lot of basic fundamentals. They usually have something that catches the fans eyes that entertain them. Roy had the speed an the dancing around with the worse fighters there were. Sugar ray had the speed an the overhead wind up arm swing then hit u with the opposite hand. Hearns had an out of this world knockout punch. Hagler same thing. The killer instincts of De la Hoya once he got u hurt, he knew how to finish u. Trinidad's 1 hit power. There's not many who laced up the gloves who actually mastered those fundamentals. Which is why its called "the sweet science of boxing" coz not many has mastered the art of the sweet science. Floyd is seemingly the first person to come to mind. Ppl seem to 4get the quality of fighters that Roy was fighting while showboating in the ring. These was not A list fighters. These weren't even B list fighters. The fact that he was doing this in the ring an embarrassing the ppl he was fighting overshadowed the quality of the fighters he was fighting. But if you're a true boxing fan, who he was fighting was not an is not lost upon u. Floyd dismantled an broke down A list fighters with regularity. With fundamentals!!!! When an if Roy encountered an A list fighter, the things that ppl loved about him an his style of fighting, was not on display. An to your point, the lack of fundamentals led to his struggles in those fights much like Wilder losing to Tyson Fury. No fundamentals, no plan B to fall back on is what happened to Roy when he fought Joe Calzaghe, a fight that real Roy fans won't watch twice coz it highlights everything I'm pointing out in his lack of fundamentals an ended with a total annihilation of a once proud an flashy champion way past him prime and no plan B (no fundamentals) to save him.

    Antonio Tarver was one of the most notable fighters I could think of from Tuesday night fights. I remember the magic man and his magic wand..at 13 years old

    Guys, pound for pound, Roberto Duran is greater than all the other 4 kings of the 80s. Yeah he lost against all of them but he was a lightweight (who cleaned out his division) that fought welter and middleweight, way past his own prime. 5 years older than Leonard . Whoever says he was anything but GREAT doesn't know anything about boxing and be better watch football. And I think Hagler was the best middleweight of all time and Leonard was the best of the 80s (he has to, he beat them all).

      James Anastasia Marvin gave away too many rounds switching, if he didn’t switch he woulda beat Leonard, trust me I was fkn yelling at the tv going for Marvin, still the greatest middleweight in history

    I would’ve loved seeing Tarver vs a prime Roy Jones Jr... Jr wins easily, but it would’ve been fun.

      I disagree styles make fights....Roy had speed but what neutralizes speed is a jab and that is the one thing that Tarver did well. And the fact that the jab came from a southpaw stance would always pose an issue for Roy. In addition, Tarver had height and a pretty good left hand and underrated boxing skills.
