Beats an audiobook anytime :D With Etherfields though, I was just too hooked because the game just "clicked" for me. I'm honestly surprised why boardgame channels haven't blown up. The content is always fantastic and for most people like me, it's always better to just watch someone else play the game.

Scratch that. I forgot the NPC's are immune to anomalies. I've always thought that a bizarre misstep in the rules. Why wouldn't they be subject to the same laws of physics. I realize that they have no dashboard to track energy loss (nebulas), but they can take damage in asteroid belts, debris fields, planet shields, Xia.
I also think it would be thematic to receive a bounty (or increased bounty) for jettisoning a "Captain in Need" in the middle of space after having accepted the mission. Seems just RUDE! 😀
That would have been so much fun if we could shove the npcs down ferrens call... I might have to houserule that haha! And I do always feel bad when I chuck a captain in need.. haha!! Thanks so much for watching!!

Xia and its expansion remain one of my grail games. I am really hoping that one day I can get hold of the game at a price that will not break the bank. Thanks for the play through, Colin!
A reprint of Xia (with all expansions / add ons) was available with the Arydia kickstarter campaign, so hopefully when they deliver you'll be able to find some copies for sale.
I have not heard of this game until now. And yes, it looks like a lot of fun. Apparently, other commenters agree. It has at lest 3 of my favorite mechanics: Miniatures, Random Hex Map and Dice Chucking different dice, not just the boring d6. Lot of ways to play with constantly shifting strategies. The best part of this play through, for me, was watching you played cat and mouse with the enforcer, completing goals as you ran from one hiding spot to another. Defiantly on my want list.
Yeah it's awesome, you have to continually re-evaluate your strategy and the npc's provide a great experience! Hope you can find a copy, you do need the expansion for solo play!

if I ever play this I would want some beads to keep track of movement points after I roll dice for movement gain those beads then put them in a pile far away as I used them so no mistakes

@@MeetMeAtTheTable It seems a great game, if you like the randomness that can make you lose even if you play perfectly. But from I've seen in the video there's no way (or little) to improve your odds or mitigate bad luck (and I'm not against some luck in games).
@@mithrandir510 Totally get it if any kind of luck makes you dislike a game. You mainly play this one for the fun and emergent stories and Xia provided it in spades. There are a ton of ways to score points and win as evidenced by Colin’s original play throughs on OSCS. There is actually a decent bit of luck mitigation even here in this video but you’re always going to have to rely on dice rolls to an extent. The GTS at the start mitigates bad engine roll luck. Having shields mitigates luck from environmental and combat. Going further upgrading your shields gives you a greater output range, and you can specialize your shields with an enviro shield that automatically rolls the highest value your shield provided. There is a mission computer that increases your draw to 3 which easily allows you to draw missions you want. And you can modify blasters and missiles with a piecer to partially punch through shields.
Colin + Xia is an immediate like for me - I am already excited before even watching it.

Used to play it to death when it came out. Tripled the number of tiles and added self-designed modules including aliens. Oh what fun!

Game seems great, until you see that EVERYTHING you do will succeed or fail mostly by rooling a dice, not because of your skills :(
Kinda! But you can take calculated risks and many things are guaranteed. I really actually enjoy the dice in this one due to randomness in space!
