Forgot to mention the lack of suit powers and the reduced amount of gadgets compared to the first game.
There’s a great game somewhere in there but it’s muddied by the laziness of the developers.
Still fun but not as good as it could’ve been 😕
I swear I got frustrated with Peter being nerfed just to make Miles better. Plus I hated that Scream boss fight I couldn’t stand it and that’s making me pretty hesitant on playing the game again when NG+ inevitably drops.

I’m personally not gonna be returning for new game plus unless they fix the difficulty settings in the combat. I’m sure they’ll do it in a patch tho. (I hope 😬)

I was so disappointed in the story of this game...my community tab over the last month is any indication of that of that and I didn't even expamd on HALF the points you made😭...BUT...at this point I'm just burnt on talking about it how bad it was any further
So I'll say I agree with most of your points. I didn't even think about that Norman thing...yh your right it is dumb. And Norman seemed so one note in this game and had nothing else to add to the story
I have NO faith at all in the narrative of the 3rd game. The set ups dont even remotely edcite me especially the Silk one...they couldn't even balance Miles and Peter's stories properly...now we got a THIRD spider person with an Origin more complicated than both Peter and Miles...and they're making her Miles' age🙄😐
Lmaoo I didn’t even remember to mention silk. The only villain set up I’m kinda looking forward to is Carnage.
But if they have the same writers for Spiderman 3, idk if I’ll be looking forward to anything tbh. Either way, the Norman/Goblin set up is terrible and there’s no way around it.😭

After finishing the game, the rumours seem very plausible

22hrs in I already had the Platinum….I must say during gameplay it was really fun bit as soon as all side and main quests are done, there is literally nothing more to do but

Yeah it doesn’t make much sense. It kinda adds to the idea that they did the bare minimum for this one. After the success of the first two, they knew they had a winning formula and could afford to leave stuff out at launch. Pretty disappointing 😕
while i was playing the main story i was having a great time until i started going for the platinum. i agree that the majority of side missions were repetitive and the fact that features like changing the time of day and new game plus is gone sucks ass too. the longer it's been after i played it the more i'm noticing these flaws and it's pretty disappointing
Exactly I had the same experience. The game was fun but as soon as I started going for the plat , it became a slog to get through.
It feels like the main story missions and the side missions were developed by two different teams. Not a lot of effort was put in to the side content.
Which is especially disappointing since the core gameplay has basically been the same since the first game.
Then to top it off , there’s less gadgets, can’t change the time of day , no new game plus , can’t replay bases , no suit powers etc. Definitely a disappointing sequel.
the thing is those aren’t launch features for MSM1 or MSM:MM either so can’t really be mad about them not being launch in MSM2
It’s a sequel , why would we hold it to the same standard as the first game?
Also, the Miles Morales game not having a lot of these features at launch is a one of the reason why it’s a dissapointing sequel .
What’s the point in having sequels if they’re not going to use what they learned and build on it ?

I do agree with most what you said and I thought the writing will better than the first game and easily one of the best spider-man stories ever told. I’m extremely disappointed as a diehard spidey fan.
Yeah it’s pretty disappointing all things considered. I’m sure as a diehard it was even worse. The first game was literally the perfect Spiderman movie.

I was not one of those toxic fans who immediately rejected the idea of no Eddie Brock as Venom, but I do think that they were right in the end. Now that I've played the game I can say that making Harry the host for Venom was just an attempt to water down the character. They ignored everything that made Venom's characterization so terrifying and unique with his personal hatred towards Spider-Man and replaced it with some generic world domination crap or "heal the world" as they put it.
@@thomaslawrence6353 I don't have any issue with harry being venom but they should have let it cook. Let harry struggle with venom changing his thoughts and eventually venom consumes him.
After 2 of these games I find it really off-putting how much the logic of the world bends over backwards to make MJ a girlboss. The fact that Norman saw Spider-Man and MJ holding hands at the end and didn't realize the obvious is a symptom of that. Insomniac insists on treating MJ as an equal superhero and refuses to think about it more deeply. Actively engaging in such mental gymnastics is why they failed to consider something that simple.

Based on the title and thumbnail, I clicked on this video thinking it was just going to be an angry rant, but I was pleasantly surprised how fair you were being and how well you put your points across. The difficulty thing is especially weird since I haven’t seen many ppl mention that. I recently played Spiderman remastered so maybe that why I felt the difference but Spiderman 2 is NOTICEABLY easier imo.
I really hope they add in a higher difficulty for NG+ when that comes out cus that'll be more balanced and fun I reckon
Yeah there’s a patch coming in December and I think ngl+ was confirmed to be coming. Kinda surprising that wasn’t there at launch. A new difficulty will probably be added too.
I’d actually prefer them to just balance the abilities because increasing enemy health won’t really address the issue.
After about a month since I bought Spider-Man 2, I can say with certainty that story kinda sucks balls. There were a lot of super awesome stuff but the venom/symbiote story felt pretty rushed and my boy Peter got nerfed so hard 😭 boss fights and gameplay were still fun. 8/10 game honestly
Fair enough , the boss fights were fun but the gameplay as a whole was kinda meh cause of how easy it was. I got the platinum so I had to suffer through the side content , most of which was terrible which is why I can’t give the game above a 7.

@spoodermanreal Yeah the web swinging is awesome. Traversal as a whole is pretty much perfect. Idk if you saw the point breakdown at the end of the vid but if they fix the bugs and lack of difficulty I’d probably give it a 7.5.
There’s the foundation of a great game there , it just covered by shit side content and a mid story with admittedly hype moments imo.
Forgot to mention the lack of boss fights and the fact that the one and only "human woman" boss fight that we have is quite literally the toughest one to go through even when you're in the symbiote suit.
It's actually very ridiculous how hard wraith was in the game. I got beat by her like seven times.
She was definitely one of the harder villains but the game as a whole was still pretty easy. I had to stop using gadgets since they made fights WAY less challenging.

I mostly agree with you, and I'm so frustrated. I really wanted them to make a game as good as the first one. I can be cool with most of your point, but their is 2 points I will never forgive them, the way they handled Peter to show him as weaker than Miles pissed me off. The story centered on Harry as Venom and his relationship with Peter, why they thought it was a good idea to nerf Peter in that context in beyond writing logic. I want to highlight a point, the problem is not Miles himself, it's how they treated the passing of torch, unnatural at best, forced and cringe at worst. The fact that it's not even Peter who saved the day at the end is so... And the worst part, the tease Osborn and Doc Ock to be the next villains and at the same time officially announce that Miles is now the main Spider-Man...
Miles arc is pretty good, they managed to give him a good parallel story to Peter/Harry with Martin Li. My complain about him is of course that he is too strong and capable compared to Peter who was nerfed in every way possible so... not very balanced. I guess the "be greater. together" goes in fact only one why, and franckly I'm sure the next games will not improve on that. With a possible Spider-Woman with Cindy, Peter don't have a chance to shine again, if Insomniac don't change direction and writing team.
I like what they did with Kraven and Harry, why only complaint is that we don't see them very often and they deserved more space. Harry is a great choice for Venom, even if like you said the story become predictable, I still like the idea and what they showed, mostly.
Norman is not as clever as he is supposed to be. The fact that he ask Otto for help is unbelievably stupid.
The problem with MJ is her new mode. It don't make sense that she is so OP but it's... acceptable, just from a gameplay perspective. Not from a story one, but f... it.
I agree with you about the side quest they are boring a most the time I forced myself to do them, except for the old man and Howard, two short but touching moments.
A general problem is that the writing of the dialogues of the game lack impact. The Miles Morales game already wasn't as good as the first one, but 2 is a big downgrade. We love Spider-Man for the Shakespearian stories and tragedies, but Spider-Man is also very funny and punchy, so give him charm.

The game was definetley mid, the black suit arc was cut short and completely ruined after the peter boss fight, and the seemingly "completely in line with symbiotes destroying everything" kind of make this venom feel like a dumbed down carnage and not this awesome conflicted character that he is in the comics.
I love the black suit and venom and it hasn't been done justice on screen almost ever.

I said it from the moment miles was revealed to be a character in 2018, miles was going to put peter on the bench and he would be the main spiderman. And I wouldn't have that much of a problem if miles was interesting and unique but the writers are super eager to have him take the spotlight.
Yeah fr , I like the way spiderverse handled it. The original Peter was competent and when he died , Miles was trying to live up to his legacy. Even Peter B Parker made a joke about how perfect that Peter was.

They had a large map, all they had to improve was the gameplay but they wasted resources focusing on things that did not enhance the experience and just made the open world needlessly large. This game is 25hrs long at best and offer no replay value but it cost $354 million which is 3 times the first game. It's dissapointing.
The budget was $300 million??? LMAOOOO. Imagine spending that much on a game that’s this buggy at launch, has horrible side content and is missing features that the FIRST game in the franchise had.

And I did not lose ONCE in any boss fight.

Spiderman PS4 didn’t have this issue, it’s such an avoidable issue.
I hope in the next game they somehow give Peter his throne back. (I doubt it because of how woke insomniac games is). I felt like Peter was very nerfed in this game and took a back seat to miles, and it is a bad look that even with the symbiote, prefer couldn’t beat venom but miles could with no symbiote at all, it should have been miles getting beat up then Peter finishing the job, it makes more sense, also the writer self inserted herself as MJ which is very annoying because even she seems more powerful then spiderman

Also they were very irresponsible. They knew the symbiotes were weak to sound, hell Miles did a whole sound sampling of it. They couldn't just inform everybody to play the sound. They could incapacitate all the symbiotes and venom and protected the civilians.
Also the times Miles saves Peter really is a disservice, it should have been the opposite where Peter keeps saving Miles but it happens less as the story goes on and when Miles saves Peter it should be a sign that Peter can take it easy and Miles can take over.
Also the way Peter gets jumped by symbiotes was stupid (right before getting the anti venom suit)
My thoughts exactly, the story felt shallow, the gameplay didn't mix too well, and the villains where poorly written. It has some nice features, I like the symbiote suit, but the game was mediocre at best and boring at worst. Insomniac has been missing quite a bit lately lol
Nah fr. The only reason the 2nd game is even any good is because they have that first game to build on. Apart from the improved traversal, almost everything in Spiderman 2 is worse than Spiderman PS4.

I’d give it a 6.5/10 or 7/10. Overall great game with great mechanics, gameplay, map, combat looks great but man the story is just a little lacklustre. It’s still good but it’s just the first two games all oover again in the first two arc and in arc three it’s Web of Shadows. And the characters just suck donkey ass.

Idk man... Honestly I think the game is really bad. The story is so messy and short, it feels rushed. And there was so much propaganda, not only in the side missions, but in the main story too. It's a pretty bad deal for 70$ and really dissapointing continue to the story from the first game. I thought the game was going to focus on Peter and his problems, but instead we got too much of Miles. And honestly, Miles is a pretty bad character. I like him a lot in his movies, but in this game hes just really bad written. Peter on the other hand has a really weird relationship with Harry. There's no chemistry. I just don't feel the pressure. In the first game I was genuinely worried and I carred about everything that was happenig, it really felt like the end of the world. Here even with Venom taking over (which is the stupidest thing ever) you just don't feel anything. Only thing you feel is rage from all the MJ missions and you're wondering how tf a woman with a stun gun is stronger than Peter in some cases. I haven't even mentioned the fact, that Peter was so nerfed. I hate that Insomniac wants to show how strong is Miles, but when trying to do that the nerf Peter?! We know, what Miles is capable of, we know how strong he is. It's 2024, can we leave racism behind and not act like everyone thinks that black people aren't humans...
Yeah that's fair, the one thing that carries the game IMO is the gameplay and combat since it's literally copied and pasted from the superior first game(outside of the webwings). I wouldn't call this game really bad tho, it's a very lazy, derivitive sequel with some glaring issues but giving the game anything less than a 5/6 is disingenuous imo.
Man I can't believe how bad they fumbled this games story. They should have found a way to get miles out of the way and focus solely on Peter and what the symbiote is doing to him. Also Harry was a bad host for venom.
I don’t think Miles was the issue per se. I do agree that Pete should’ve got more focus tho. They set up a mentor - student dynamic in the first two games so it would’ve been cool to see that.
Instead we got Pete being a Vegeta in his own story. The symbiote plot line was just bad , they did venom dirty.
Honestly if they just committed fully to literally ANYTHING. Venom, Kraven, Pete, Miles or Harry. The game would’ve been so much better. Looking back the main issue I think it had was a lack of focus

I disagree with the the difficulty of the game being easier. I remembered mastering the combat and all the timings of the first game within hours of the game and had no trouble with the highest difficulty in NG+ but with spiderman 2, idk if its the enemy density or the new added parry system but it definitely felt harder to master than the first game, especially bosses, maybe it's the fact that they have health bars now that im much more conscious of how much further i have to beat to beat them, but that could just be me

disagree with the gadgets being too powerful. If you wanna talk about powerful gadgets, Spiderman 1 was literally broken. You say you can end fights with just gadgets in Spiderman 2 but there's double the gadgets in Spiderman 1, with some suit powers literally being able to end the fight with one button. Spiderman 1 had the suspension matrix where enemies would float in the air, pair that up with the web grenade you cant say that ain't broken💀 All the gadgets in Spiderman 2 are all defensive and just setups for you next attack. The abilities were maybe on the powerful side but that's only the venom abilities. peters spider arms are super weak in comparison and in the game where you don't have it for a few missions, you can definitely feel weaker, but not game breaking imo but even then they have a cool down that even with all the upgrades, don't fill up fast enough to be overly easy. @TheHippyDuck That’s a fair point you make about the gadgets in the first game tbh. One thing I would say is that I was going for the plat so I did all the side missions while I went through the story and upgraded. So maybe that why they felt so powerful in my run.
I still think they shouldn’t be as effective as they are cause remember, I played on the HIGHEST difficulty. When I say the gadgets and abilities are overpowered, I mean in regards to their effectiveness on spectacular.

theres flaws , yes , but i still believe this is quite an innovative game , not as much as spiderman 1 but still , pretty great play
I can understand enjoying the game more than I did but calling it an innovative game is just disingenuous. It's one of the most derivative single-player sequels in recent memory. It has fewer features than the last 2 games. Lack of suit powers, fewer gadgets, can't replay missions etc.
I think it's really better to wait for the PC version
The mods will make the experience more fun and fix certain problems, and I won't need to see that Tom Holland 2.0 face

Couldn't disagree more! The Insomniac Spider-Man trilogy (Duology and spin-off?) and the Batman Arkham Trilogy (With Origins) are some of the most phenomenal superhero trilogies I have ever played! Probably video games in general trilogies of all time!

Peter losing his battles is to show that being Spider-Man for 10+ years is taking a huge toll on him, and he can’t do it much longer. Also during the miles and Peter fight, Peter was fighting the symbiote as well. Also there was a giant bell. Spider-Man always explains to people who question him and mj together as they are working together since she’s a news reporter. The green goblin arc is great because even with all his money, harry is the only thing that matters to him and is all he has left, and the superhero known for not killing people, puts harry in a coma. With all his grief it makes sense. The more boring side missions have a lot of story element which are pretty good. I don’t know you are coming from with the difficult meter, this game was definitely harder then ps4’s especially the side missions

If it helps explain, I played spiderman ps4 remastered and Miles Morales about 2 months before the sequel came out so it was fresh it my mind.

I platinumed the game so maybe I might’ve been a higher level than you? Even if that’s what it is , playing side content shouldn’t break the main quests difficulty wise lmao. That’s just bad game design.

Exactly. As you said “it’s about if you’re going for speed”. That’s what you’re not getting , people aren’t gonna purposefully play the game in a worse way if there’s a better one.
Don’t get me wrong , I like playing it the stylish way too. I 100% the game so I had to have some fun with it. That being said , the gadgets broke the difficulty. The web grabber especially.
Completing side missions and levelling up shouldn’t make the game too easy for your player base. That’s literally punishing players for fully diving in to your game.
I agree with all this especially side missions they should really do god of war Ragnorok style side missions

Wrong! Insomniac never dissapoints, the team put their heart and soul and they outdid themselves.
Its also better then the first 2 games. Its a huge improvement from its predecessors too. The boss fights are amazing and better then the first 2 games, its more challenging. The story is amazing too. Kraven is amazing and it's hands down the best iteration of Kraven. He was menacing and threatening then ever. Same thing can be said for Venom. He is stronger and bigger then the previous iterations. Plus I love Tony Todd's voice. Kraven and Venom from Insomniac are amazing and better then Sony spin off movie versions. Insomniac never disappoints.
Insomniac's Spider Man is hands down the best iteration of Spider Man across all media and its my favorite too. Yuri Lowenthal is the best Spider Man
After playing Marvel's Spider Man 2 and how amazing it is, I can't wait for Insomniac's Wolverine game

They definitely could have handled it better, but they did a good enough job at keeping the flow right.
