Dusty refused to sing to an all white audience in South Africa back in the days of apartheid she was told to sing to an all white audience or leave the country so she left. I admire her a great deal
She knew a thing or two about discrimination given that she mostly had romantic relationships w/ women.
RIP DUSTY Springfield. 💕. She even played with JIMMY HENDRIX and he loved her too. She could sing, dance, play guitar, do arrangements!💜💙💚💛🧡❤ Love her Thank you guys 😊
Dusty was one of the greatest singers ever. She could sing every style. She started in Country and Western, moved to classic pop and could sing soul just as beautifully and smoothly. Gorgeous voice.
Dusty.. Dusty.. Dusty.. You silver tongued Minx ❤️🤩❤️ Listening to Dusty with that sensual voice is like pouring honey in your ears.. 😍
Every guy had a crush on Dusty back in the 60's, including me. Was a shock to learn years later that we had no chance...great performer gone way too soon.
Being the Son of a Preacher Man, I have always loved this song.
Dusty was English, and a huge sensation when she went to Memphis and changed styles and recorded a soul album.
Delta blues fascinated England
Dusty was irish her name mary o brien her family emigrated to england
@@leeoobrien7726 My sincere apologies for the mistake. No insult intended to the Irish, whose musical and poetic talent is famed, or to all the O'Briens of the world!
@@leeoobrien7726she was born in England her parents moved to Ireland when she was an adult. Her father was irish mother English.
The hair style Dusty is wearing is called the Bouffant style where the hair is piled up in a nice, commanding and attractive position and was the “rage” hair style the 1960s. 👏👏👏
One of the greatest songs ever written. I love this song!
What a freaking gorgeous voice
DUSTY! The Queen of Blue Eyed Soul!
Oh yes...Dusty sang the original version. This cut was released on the 1969 album DUSTY IN MEMPHIS which incorporated the soulful "memphis sound". The style and arrangements on this album were a successful departure from the British pop/ folk music of her career up to that point. Yes, you heard me right....DUSTY was indeed British....but with a sultry southern accent when she sang. You should really hear her version of THE LOOK OF LOVE!! 😍😜
This is why i read the comments. Straight up learned something. Thx
She was a teaser.....love it......!!!
Dusty was originally in a trio: The Springfields. With her brother. He also wrote several songs for the Seekers.
Dusty had a beautiful sultry soulful voice. She was a very shy person in reality and the album this song is on took a long time to make because of Dusty's reticence in singing in front of such a formidable group of virtuoso musicians in Memphis.
This song was actually first offered to Aretha Franklin and she turned it down, so it was given to Dusty instead, and then after Aretha heard Dusty's version she decided she liked it after all and recorded her own version of it.
I love this version. I would fucking shit my pants in public if Aretha did this.
Do not disparage Aretha.
Can you imagine is grandma Aretha sang this?
Chris Whinery ... √
Red Step Child ...
She Did ... But only after Dusty hit Huge with it ... !
My favorite Dusty Springfield song is "The Look Of Love". A classic song sang as only Dusty could...sultry and sexy.
dusty was pure soul and she could belt when she needed to but she sang to fit the song and to define the lyrics of the song. in other words, to tell the tale of the song while displaying ultra cool and style.
A great singer-- British-- In the Rock and Roll HOF Class of 1999 !!! "Preacher Man was one of Dusty's BIG hits-- Check out her other hits: Her #1 Hit-- "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" (She belts it out in that one!) and " The Look of Love."
Irish, mary o brien was her name
Thar's right! Thanks!
@@leeoobrien7726
@@leeoobrien7726she wasnt irish she was born in london west Hempstead.
Dusty was one of the greatest singers ever. Inducted several days after her passing. This was out in 68. Had many very good songs. You don't have to Say you Love Me, I only want to be With You. Wishing and Hoping and Brand new Me. She shows her vocals most in You don't Have to Say you Love Me
Appreciate if you would react to one of those great songs.
This British diva released hits in England back in the 60’s. American record executives couldn’t get her to America fast enough! She ended up in Memphis doing her thing😉
Dusty in Memphis is a great album . A classic
Love that song. Hard to believe she's been gone since '99.
Great song the lyrics are definitely suggestive. She was great lots of hits an appearances all over TV. Hair straight out of the 60's. Great choice, love your verbal rapport.
Elvis' Girls are singing backup. The Sweet Inspirations!
Dusty has all kinds of soul. She owns that song.
ASIA you are an old soul, I am too because I am in love with her look too!
I say we bring it back lol
The Look Of Love is a must-listen as done by Dusty. Other great versions by Sergio Mendes & Brasil'66 and Herb Alpert who plays trumpet on Dusty's recording as well as being the "A" in A & M Records and an incredible producer and genius on trumpet
Love Dusty, such a distinctive voice. Great song too
One of my all time favorite songs , her voice still gives me cy
Chills
She was the first. Genre is 'Memphis Country Soul'.
First time I ever heard this song was in the mid 90s while watching pulp fiction. Been listening to it ever since
I was one of her biggest fans. She just kept having hit after hit after hit. You could hardly listen to the radio without hearing her every four or five songs. One of my favourites was “ The Look of Love “ It was in the 1967 Bond movie, that was kind of a parody of the Bond movies. called Casino Royals.
Always loved this song. Still one of my favorite oldies.
Awesome song , I love 💕 this song so very much.
A class of what a real talented woman is.
Dusty Springfield was born Mary O'Brien in London. She was of Irish descent.
One of my favorite songs from 60s! I am digging the vest Dusty wearing. BJ I dont think Carol Burnette had that hairstyle. Carol in her heyday was a block hairdo. But many many country female stars had that hair style. .. e.g Tammy Wynnette . huge country star of 60s 70s. ( stand by your man singer)
Love Dusty. Love your reaction.
"Them southern girls with the way they TAWK knock me out when I'm down there..." (beach-boys said). That song was in PULP FICTION too
Dusty in Memphis is one of the best albums ever
She's not even American but was born Mary O'Brien to Irish parents in London England, she used Dusty Springfield as her stage name.
Dusty was part of the British Invasion (think music) during the 60’s
Joss Stone has an amazing cover for this song. Highly recommend checking it out. She has an unique voice. You'd probably like a lot of her songs. Jet Lag is my favorite by her.
Best female voice EVER!!!
i dig you
Listening to my generation, love u 2!
The son of the preacher man obviously won her heart before he kissed her. That's the way to develop a long-lasting relationship. That's true love. 😊❤
Anyone who likes Dusty should give a listen to some of the music by her partner.......one of her songs was in some vampire show, I think. "You're Dead." From mid-1966 to the early 1970s, Springfield lived in a domestic partnership with fellow singer Norma Tanega. My favorite songs are "Walking My Cat Named Dog" and "A Street That Rhymes At 6 a.m."
Great choice. She had a great career. Check out some others of hers.
Dusty! Check out "Wishing And Hoping"
Sinbad used to feature parts of this song as part of his introduction music to his comedy acts.
A 1970's tv special 'Liza with a Z' Liza Minelli sang a cover version in her show was the best versian i heard.
A much loved artist in the UK
The version you may have heard is from Aretha Franklin. Dusty Springfield was gay which was unusual in the 1960, although she did not come out till later. She was a big star in the UK and she was responsible and helped with the first tour by Motown stars in I think 1965. In those days black and white arists did not perform togther, but she was eager and happy to sing with Martha from Martha and the Vandellas. There is a great BBC documentary on that tour on you tube, it's worth a watch.
The Queen Supreme herself Miss Aretha covered this song
They played this song in the movie Pulp Fiction 1994
So Dusty Springfield made suggestions about her relationship with the "Son of a Preacher man". Never again to be excluded from the show. Awesome.
Jim Morrison sings "Girl we couldn't get much higher," get's excluded for life.
This song is about zikual experience.
I remember back in the 60's, Aretha Franklin did her version of "son of a preacher" back in the days when radio stations was racially segregated. Blue Eyes Soul music it was called on the black radio station.
My wedding dress had those sleeves. Loved them
The Pulp fiction song......great song
That lady had soul
Aretha did a real soulful version as well. Listen to her version.
I saw her back in the 60s, passed to young
grandson of a deacon man ❤ I adore y’all ❤
Asia, I looked through a lot of comments and I could not find one on that outfit. Those sleeves [from a hip old grey lady who lived through the '60's] are called "Trumpet Sleeves" and you can get a crocheted vest from sooo many places these days. Everything old is new again ! Mind you NEVER wear those sleeves to a BBQ !
I enjoy just seeing your reactions to my kinda music
Cypress Hill sampled the intro to this song hard with their track "Hits From The Bong". You may have heard it there.
So good-
-That Old Sweet Roll
-You Dont Have To Say You Love Me
-Just A Little Loving
and of course I Can't Make It On My Own, where she confesses, "Now you know me
You know how proud I am
And what I'm gonna tell you now
Won't be easy to say..."
We always jokingly called that hairdo as “hair-for-Jesus,” because all the TV preachers and singers kept that hairstyle long after it went out of style.
Dusty Springfield - I Just Don't Know What To Do - check that one out gujs.
this song was featured in the movie "Pulp Fiction"
Dusty Springfield is from the UK.
Still here..Still liken..I'm loyal A1..happy ya'll rollin duet gangster hard..feel me
Love Dusty! Also, Asia you are so beautiful!

My favorite cover of this is by Joss Stone
Fabulous
Play Time has come today by The Chambers Brothers.Tony
I’m sorry to say she is wearing a wig 😊 Dusty can sing 😊
Heard this when just little girl, didn't know what the song meant. Haha.
Dusty was amazing. That is all.
during apartide in SA she refused to play to segregated audiences.
Pulp Fiction , features the cover your thinking of.
"I'm diggin' this whole situation" haha, she went all out
Love this!
Smooth voice like silk!
Song is in movie pulp fiction
R.I.P. DUSTY SPRINGFIELD 🕊 🕊 🕊 🕊
Grandson of a Deacon man🤣🤣🤣
Dusty (mary o brien) was irish her family emigrated to england hence all the english trying to claim her
Guys, you should hear WILD WOMEN by Cass Elliot.
A great classic. It still works..

My mind keeps saying “hits from the bong.”
This song will always be Pulp Fiction too me.
now do Cypress Hill - Hits from the Bong. they sampled this song. both are classics.
Can never hear this now without either seeing it in Pulp Fiction or feeling it in Hits from the Bong lol
Great reactions
When the preacher come to visit his son would come alone and take the girl walking
