    I really wish THE FOG was re-added into minecraft as a very rare natural weather event like rain. Maybe it could have a gameplay element like allowing mobs to spawn in the day, or have a new Herobrine like mob that stalks and attacks the player. I'm sure some people would find it annoying but I feel like if it was locked to hard mode or something it could be a fun addition to a biome overhaul update.

    One thing that made early minecraft's aesthetic so important to me is that it felt "raw". The lack of concern for realism conveyed to me Notch's intent to create his unique world. The fact that I can tell the developer cares more about his idea than what my opinion of it is is incredibly intriguing. It gives me a sense of mystery since the game could hold virtually anything if it's not being held back by the opinions of consumers.

    i'm probably making a huge deal out of this, but the hotbar and health bar textures look SO GOOD. i've always hated the default hearts, they're literally just a solid red with a little white dot. this heart texture adds actual shading and texture to the hearts that keep it looking simple and faithful to the default, but different enough that they're pleasant to look at

    I prefer the way this mod does backporting features over how BTA does it. The way BTA does it is by making unnecessary changes just to be different, like, “Oh it’s not a hopper, it’s a funnel,” and “It’s not a banner, it’s a flag!” Where as the way Reindev does it is by picking and choosing what features feels natural, giving them a classic looking texture and giving them a new context.

    • @darkdwarf007

      To be fair, flags work and look differently compared to banners, same name might've caused confusion

    • @sprousprou
      @sprousprou Před 8 měsíci +50

      BTA doesn’t really try doing backports at all, instead trying to find a different solution to the same problems. Though some features are inevitably pretty similar, they’re trying to find new ways to approach similar ideas, and a lot of features feel like very unique takes. I don’t think one method is better than the other, and there are definitely things that I wish BTA would backport, but I understand the devs’ vision and to chalk it up to lazy changes to make things stand out more is pretty reductive

  • @Cheatscape
    @Cheatscape Před 8 měsíci +39

    I think the reason that these old versions of Minecraft still have appeal today is because, unlike the current version of Minecraft, they feel complete and finished. Even though all of the features of old Minecraft are also in new Minecraft, most of that additional content is underwhelming and half baked. The new cave system, which changed the way the entire world was generated to accommodate it, only added 2 new cave biomes, leaving the caves to feel like they're still in development, when the old caves didn't have this feeling. Hell, the villagers are STILL being overhauled and developed, which were introduced to the game 12 YEARS AGO. They've felt unfinished this whole time. The End is still only one biome with 2 structures. And they keep adding half baked ideas that highlight how shallow most of it is. Mods like this show what could have been: a more well-rounded expansion of the original concept.

    I just found your channel today, couple hours ago, and I'm honestly hooked. Maybe it's because so far it's mostly well-thought and -written minecraft videos (though I'm starting the video on the simulators), maybe it's the style of delivery and personal touch you add to your videos, maybe it's the custom visual and audio style to the videos (and I'm loving seeing how things change and improve things in each video). Realistically, it's all of these factors working together. I'm inspired to check out some older minecraft versions and the mods that have been mentioned; I started playing in 1.4 I believe. I'm fond of the recent game, but it doesn't have quite the same touch as earlier versions. I'm excited to see where this channel continues to go!

    Have you seen mangopack? Maybe you could make a video about it too. It's a modpack for beta 1.7.3 that has many old mods (such as aether, better than wolves, buildcraft etc). About reindev, I love what they did with tools, you have a variety of different tools that have their place. Also belts seem interesting and I wonder how could they be used. Might give this mod a try.

    the Wendigo in the Fear section is cool. I didn't think porting the DUSK enemy would work that well

    13:36 I did not know about this feature of Reindev. I appreciate this a lot. The Aether series have always been a massive part of my childhood, so having the abilities of the Aether equivalent of overworld tools ripped from the aether and implemented in this mod is much appreciated and feels like an elegant way to add certian missing features like silk touch to the game with a good bit of fun game design.

    This is one of the things that makes minecraft so great - it’s so easy to access older versions that you might prefer and mod the game to be whatever you want it to be

    There is another modpack that captures this perfectly and has an eerie aproach to the older minecraft. Its called "Minecraft MCSX Playstation Edition", its reimagining Minecraft as a playstation 1 game, woth complete features hence whg it is in 1.18 but with that old game feel and systems. Ita really awesome and I highly reccomend it

    The visuals of old Minecraft, like Pocket Edition were on another level.
    They made nights feel scary, and playing feel fun.
    Something toggling off smooth lighting just cannot replicate, since the textures and atmosphere are still the modern equivalent or lack thereof. I wish they'd give us a "Pocket Edition" or "Alpha" texture pack or something.

    I remember Beta 1.7.3 vividly, because We did not have home internet at the time, so i packed up my PC and took it to my Grandparents house, so i could download and install Minecraft. I was then able to use a USB drive and download mods at school and take them home to play and experiment with.

      @Novashadow115 Před 2 měsíci

      BROOO! I did the same thing, except i took that usb drive with all the mods and also had the actual game on it. Me and my friends would swap it around school and let people make copies, one time we even were able to upload it directly onto the schools computers so that everyone at school could grab it and play. Felt like an absolute king

    I think the fear aspect is the hardest to achieve. I remember playing when creepers got added, nothing would be able to put me in the same headspace as when that first explosion rocked my world and destroyed my chest of items. I was a kid and i didnt know yet how best to deal with them, but nowadays, theres no threat, i know to simply take a step back, punch them away, and usually thats enough to stop the bomb. I cant un learn the tricks so to speak, so its harder for the game to get you

    I used to be really scared of Minecraft in certain situations. Playing anything other than peaceful survival or creative was a no-go, especially not after they added phantoms (there was no toggle for them at the time on Pocket Edition). Even when I should've felt totally safe, there were times where I was so scared of.. pretty much nothing. The vast open space of superflat, the dark caves in normal worlds.. they can't compare to the terror I felt pre-1.16 when I went below bedrock and my screen went pitch black. That was the single most terrifying thing I'd ever encountered in the game.
    Nowadays, I've sought treatment for my anxiety, so these things don't scare me anymore, but I'll never forget that fear I felt even into early adulthood

    After watching this video a few weeks ago I joined the discord and have been playing on the public/anarchy server hosted by moderators of the discord every day. It's remarkable how the variations and additions of this mod not only add to the MC experience, but build entire new ways of playing the game. If you're on the fence about this mod but also really want a reason to play MC again, I recommend trying it out.

    i think there are a lot of good takes thrown into this project, like the throweable dinamite being able to rock jump. but overall i think better adventure does this gimmick better, i would love to see a collab of some sort from both projects to make all their ideas take their full potential on a bigger project

    Another thing that dovetails with Fear, I think, is old micecraft was _way_ more lethal than it is now. (And I think hunger was a major contributor to survivabiltiy.)
    Also, fire. Fire was a huge and ever-present menace before the nerf. (I loved that about it.)
