- We start with a Loram rail grinder zooming south on the Spine Line between Enterprise and Ankeny. In Marshalltown we see a brand new CW44AC, at least that's what is stenciled on the side of the cab. I don't know when "they" started calling them AC4400CW's. Other loco's include a freshly repainted GP7 and GP50 number 5053 which was the first number Athearn did when they released the original Blue Box version of the GP50 in HO scale. We catch some switching moves with GP7's and a couple of through trains. Over in Ames we see two westbound empty coal trains and an eastbound mixed.
Thanks for filming and sharing.
I used to love to railfan at the east end of Marshalltown Yard and listen to those GP7's throttling up!
Boy that AC4400 was as fresh as it gets! Only two months left for the CNW at this point.
Great stuff!!
That video was very good having been almost 30 year old technology. Nice video and thanks.
I noticed the westbound empty coal train had hoppers with rotary couplers facing both directions and then had coal gons on the end. Usually don't see that. That train is not made up for loading because if sent to a power plant with a rotary dumper, those hoppers could only be bottom unloaded through the gates, since there were fixed couplers connected. Then there were the gons on the rear that required a rotary dumper - that string all appeared to be lined correctly. That train probably got re-sorted at the South Morrill NE yard, or the cars were being sent to the inspection facility south of Bill WY. Thanks!
good ol day !!!!
Sad what UP did to this and so many other lines.
