Can CBT help me? I have no negative thoughts about myself, it’s just this unending anxiety over everything. I love myself, but have just started to feel fearful of everything, and fearing the fearful feelings.

I am an avid #MentalHealthAwareness advocate and performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my CZcams channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates. 💙❤

Just a word of caution: if you turn down therapy that's offered to you then you might not be offered any more. That's how the NHS really works.

+ShakespeareOfBorg You're very right, there's just not enough variety at the moment. Everyone is different and there is no one size fits all when it comes to mental health. We're campaigning to improve the types of talking therapy that people have access to > www.mind.org.uk/news-campaigns/campaigns/access-to-talking-therapies/ We believe no one should be turned away without the help they need, and if that's happening to you, you can call, email or text our Infoline, who will try and help you to find alternative sources of support. Their info is here www.mind.org.uk/information-support/helplines/ Take care, Ellie from Mind

Thanks. After being refused any therapy by the NHS I'm now on Mind's waiting list for therapy instead. I've put in formal complaints about the NHS's refusal to help me and these have been ignored as the doctors just claim it's all "part of my disorder" to be dissatisfied!

Its all a part of the "you WILL do it our way, or you will simply be ignored"! Side of the NHS. Some of the mental health "workers" I have met there have been amazing. Yet others have been a nightmare and God forbid that you might contradict or even PROVE one of those ones wrong.
I hope that by now you hve received the help you needed and that life's now a lot better for you :)

Funny how other therapies are trivialized by saying it's talking to a bearded man who analyses your dreams. CBT is good to use in addition to other therapy techniques I don't think it's good to downplay other methods in this video.

CBT is based on a logical fallacy that Thoughts Control feelings. Neuroscience shows that the amygdala, ( the smoke alarm in the brain) sends signals via the sympathetic nervous system to create nervous panicky feelings, and sends signals to the neocortex to produce the negative thoughts. There is no direct link between the two. Cognitive re framing simply suppresses those feelings. What you actually need to do ( and Mindfulness Somatic Experiencing and Focusing Psychotherapy all do this ) is to activate the'noticing' part of the brain ( Hyppocampus ) which helps to reset the amygdala. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and others have pointed this out for many years. but the anti-science CBT people just ignore it.

vidform I made one mistake. The signal is sent to the parasympathetic nervous system to produce the feelings ! Sorry !

I doubt CBT is anti-science, but they meant general their rules into contexts in which it might not be as useful. The noticing of the trigger seems to be the first part, it seems compatible with meditation and focused pyschotherapy.

I am a therapist for over three decades and a Ph.D. level psychologist. I have read hundreds of scientific articles on neuroscience and probably thousands on therapy. CBT is a practical efficient therapy. There are many therapeutic procedures that don't have a complete scientific understanding, especially neuroscience. Nobody understands how the brain works. CBT people are not anti-science. In fact, they are much more science based than most schools of psychotherapy. The important thing is that most people will live better lives because of it.
