I get asked all the time how to adopt a senior dog! Let me tell you senior dog adoptions are the most rewarding pet adoptions I have ever seen. Not only for the senior dog but for the amazing human that opens their heart and home for this senior dog.

Peanut Butter Dog Treats; Or as I like to call 'em Mutter Butter Cookies for dogs!
My MAKE ON YOUR OWN Peanut Butter Cookies Recipe
Things you will need:
1 & one forth Cup Wheat Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1/2 Cup Honey (important to get this one as CLOVER honey is the secret. Your dog(s) will thank you)
1/2; Cup Applesauce (important to get this one because it is unsweetened. No need having added sugar in there our dogs don't need)
Set your oven at 325 degrees.
To make the cookie batter:
Mix peanut butter and honey in KitchenAid with paddle (or if you don't have a KitchenAid, you can stir by hand). Then add applesauce and mix just until incorporated. In a separate bowl combine all dry ingredients. Add into peanut butter mixture in two additions, scraping the bowl with spatula after the first addition.
Now for the assembly:
Scoop dough with a small scoop onto sheet pan covered with parchment. Place a second sheet of parchment on top and flatten cookies with another sheet pan. Take parchment off and mark each cookie with a hash with a oiled fork.
Bake at 325 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
Let the mutter butter cookies cool, and then comes the fun part, the taste test! Hopefully your dog enjoyed the cookies as much as my taste testers!

I have rescued several animals from shelters, never regretted one. I believe they are more grateful to their humans for it; they recognize YOU SAVED THEM, & give you payment for it EVERY DAY (& night) while hogging your bed!!!!

That old fella is one beautiful dog. Lovely markings, nice coat, if a bit worn with age now, hehe. He is just a stunning looking dog. I bet he blew them all away when he was younger and his coat was fresh. Because he still carries it well now.

When my current dog passes away i will then only get old rescue dogs and give them the best last years they all deserve.
As lovely as it is having a puppy and raising the dog from day one, so many old dogs need love too and i will dedicate my life to helping as many as i can.
I love you guys and all rescue orgs across the world, i just wish i could do more to help and give you all massive piles of money but im not a rich man.

No such thing as angels or devils. And plenty of dogs are mistreated yet stay sweet, other dogs are never mistreated but are still mean and nasty. Social influence are just one factor of many.

When my dogs get old I give them everything. Cookies, ice cream, a *SMALL* amount of chocolate.
No! the slightest bit of chocolate can be harmful as well. hope your dog is ok

Yeah, I don't think that's true. People always say that, but I have dogs and have fostered a few dogs over my life and some of them have gotten into chocolate and stuff, or a little kid or something gave them chocolate, and nothing harmful ever came from it. I don't know where it comes from that dogs can't have chocolate but from my experiences and others that I know their dogs have had chocolate have never had harmful experiences. I don't think I've ever heard of a harmful thing happening to a dog when it had chocolate, I've just heard that apparently they're not supposed to have chocolate.
Madcatter I'm sure your pets threw the chocolate up sometime after though. This girl I knew in elementary school, gave her dog chocolate and he became totally blind. The vet determined the cause of it being the chocolate. It was so sad, but obviously she was a child and didn't know better. I think it also has to do with the dog's size and the size of the chocolate. Larger dogs can withstand the toxins better than smaller dogs, but it's all relative to size. Still though, if you know it's a poison that may harm your pet, why take the risk?
Dogs have a different metabolism
than humans and therefore cannot eat many foods that are considered safe
for people. Various types of avocado can be toxic to canines and may
cause nausea and vomiting. Bread dough is especially harmful because the
yeast can swell, resulting in an obstruction in the dog's intestine.
Chocolate can be toxic to the nervous system and heart due to the amount
of caffeine and theobromine levels. Grapes and raisins contain an
unknown toxin that can damage a dog's kidneys.
Cultivated hops, used for brewing beer, can be life-threatening if
ingested by a dog. Mild flu-like symptoms may develop after the
ingestion of macadamia nuts, and while the nuts alone are not toxic, the
symptoms could cause further internal injuries.
Moldy foods can contain potentially fatal toxins. Onions and garlic
contain compounds that can cause damage to a dog's red blood cells and
result in death. Xylitol, a calorie-free sweetener found in chewing gum
and candy, can cause canine liver damage if ingested in large
quantities.

I love having older dogs. They are grown, set in their ways. They tend to be a bit lower energy, and they just want to hang out and enjoy life. They say a dog reflects its owner. I can say that this is true.

Rocky Kanaka we have 3 Dogs the oldest one Divo is 10 years old, Scarlet is almost 3 years old , and Sammy is 4 the are all rescued as well as the cats 🐱

I love old animals! People save them from the shelter. They are the most lovely creatures! I can say this by 15 year experience by taken 12 old and disabled cats from the shelter. They made/make me happy every day with their love.

I foster, and with the GSD rescues I specifically asked for the oldies! I currently have Rex, who despite being pretty much perfect, was 'too old' at 9 1/2 for anyone to rehome....guess who's still here, and about to turn 13! x

How do you get past the losses? This has proven to be too hard on us in the past.j Our current dog is 17 and we no longer take vacations if we have to leave her because we are afraid she might die without us there with her. The vet said she is healthy enough to make 20. We will wait and see...she might outlive us.
Every loss hurts but I believe they go to God in a beautifull place and when my time comes I will see them all back. That comfort me and that I had give them the love they needed on their old days for a while. Old animals have something so special! But go on vacation is also for me a big problem. I do only one night not longer also afraid something will happen. I hope your dog will stay some years but don't survive you because what when he loses you as his big love and guardian?

This dog looks SO much like our beloved boy Casey who was found by my son at a factory back in 1990. We kept him and he lived to the ripe old age of almost 16 years and he was and is forever loved and missed.
