I'm asking this because, I'm a Havyaka Brahmin and I loved a Konkani Brahmin girl. My parents straightaway rejected when they got to know she is a Konkani Brahmin :(
@@dontexpectreply Majority eat fish. There was group of Konkani Brahmins who are pure vegetarian. But over generations due to intermarriages that section is very very tiny now (only preists don't eat). I've seen atleast 5-6 vegetarian families turn non-veg because the girls that married into those families were fish eaters. They got the habit along with them. Even if your girlfriend family is vegetarian, It is very likely that they'll turn non-veg due to intermarriages at some point. She'll almost certainly have nonveg close relatives. At that time, your kids will grow up with a non-veg maternal side. I know a non-veg Havyaka boy who got that habit from his maternal side. The Konkani influence on him was so strong that it was effectively his mother tongue and the language he spoke at home with his siblings and his mother. His mother was not even GSB (it's important to mention this because GSBs are even more assertive about making their side dominant).
I understand where your parents are coming from. Being a young person, you may not understand it now. If your culture preservation is very important for you, I would suggest not to intermarry with Konkanis. It's not casteism or discrimination but your own identity may get eroded.

In Bihar, Bhatt section of Saraswat Brahmins reside who have surnames Bhatt,Maharaj,Sharma,Brahmbhatt,Roy,Rai,Rao,Dasandhi,Pundit,Hazari,Mishra etc.
In British Era, saraswats with surname Rao got changed to Roy/Rai.

Varna and jati are two different things. Varna refers to occupation which could be changed easily depending on one's aptitude. Jati means community. It comes from the root gyati meaning expertise(in a particular occupation or craft or trade). In the medieval times jaatis had complete monopoly over their crafts or occupation and there wasn't any higher jaati or lower jaati which is entirely a British creation.

मैं भी एक सारस्वत ब्राह्मण हूं राजस्थान के हनुमानगढ़ से, यहां प्राचीन काल में सरस्वती नदी बहती थी जो सूख गई उसी के पाट में (नदी के मार्ग पर) अब जो नदी बहती है उसका नाम घग्घर है जो कुछ दूर बहकर भूगर्भित हो जाती है। बहुत से सारस्वत यहां से माइग्रेट करके नहीं गए। हम आज भी यहीं रहते हैं 🤪
अभी सरकार ने यहां इसरो के वैज्ञानिकों और सैटेलाइट से सर्वे करवाया था ताकि सरस्वती नदी का पूरा मार्ग खोज कर उसमें हिमालय की छोटी छोटी धाराओं को मिलाकर सरस्वती नदी को फिर से अवतरित किया जा सके।

@@timujin3329 we are bhatt brahmins actually "Roy" surname is used by Brahmbhatt Brahmins and some of Vaid Bengali Brahmins in northern and eastern India.
Brahmins who had gained immense wealth in return of Pujas/Yagnas performed for Kings were accredited as Rajas amongst Brahmin clan hence given title as "Roy" by the People. that's why we use "Roy" as our surname.😊

3:23 the Gaud Saraswata Brahmins (GSB) have their origin in ancient Gauda kingdom of Bengal. Saraswata Brahmins of Bengal migrated to Konkan coast during historical Pala era. Gaud S Brahmins show various similarities with their ancestral land of Bengal. Their main festival Durga Puja- just like the Bengalis, they eat fish-rice, etc. Mention Bengal in video.

The Saraswat Brahmins first came to Bengal when the river Saraswati dried up and lived there for many centuries before migrating from there to Konkan region in Goa , in today Bengal's Gauḍa is located at 24°52′N 88°08′E. It is now ribboned with the Bangladesh-India border, with most of its ruins on the Indian side and a few structures on the Bangladeshi side, it was once one of the most populous cities in the world. The ruins of this former city now straddle the international border and are divided between the Malda district of West Bengal and Chapai Nawabganj District of Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. The Kotwali Gate, formerly part of the citadel, now marks the border checkpoint between the two countries. This region is still known as Gaud.
Gauda was one of the most prominent capitals in the history of Bengal and the history of the Indian subcontinent, and a centre of stately medieval architecture.
Gauda gradually became synonymous with Bengal and Bengalis, that is why the Saraswat Brahmins who migrated again from Bengal were called GAUD SARASWATS
Those who stayed back in Bengal are having mostly the titles of Dasgupta, Sengupta, Gupta, Das and Roy. They were known for their exceptional skills and knowledge in medical sciences that is why they were respected as' Baidya' meaning doctor. That is why their Gotra is Dhanwantari in Bengal.
They are still among the creme de la creme of the Bengali society's upper crust since then.
These people on their way to Bengal for the first time encountered snakes, crocodiles, tigers, rice and tribal people in the forests which were unknown in their holy land of Sapta-Sindhu, the most stunning encounter was with the Brahmins of Bengal who spoke in Sanskrit, they never expected this, that a Sanskrit speaking Brahmin people will be living in Bengal, they pondered, how these people acquired the knowledge of Sanskrit. There were more surprises; they found that the deities worshipped in Bengal were different; most notably they were not Vedic deities, they also found that 'Chandi' a Sanskrit text was followed instead of the Vedas, in Bengal thus the Vedic religion collided with the indigenous religion and that is how Sanatana Dharma became Hindu Dharma; which shaped up with Puja, Aarti and Archana of idols which were neither as per the Vedic rituals nor in obeisance to the Vedic deities. The Saraswat Brahmins gave up barley, fruits and milk and became rice and fish eaters in Bengal and took up the medical profession because the typical priestly class of Brahmins was already well entrenched in Bengal by then.
Obviously they were not liking their status and role in Bengal which further got jeopardised with the arrival of Kulin Brahmins from Kanya Kubja during the Gupta age, they migrated to other lands not only Konkan but also to Punjab and UP. Some Tyagis are Saraswat brahmins of Punjab and western UP who had lived in Bengal for many centuries before moving there although there are many Tyagis who are Bhoomihars in Rajasthan, Haryana also apart from their presence in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Most interesting part is that the there were more than twelve recensions of Saraswat migrations. Some Konkan Saraswat Brahmins who had migrated to Goa came back to Bengal and settled here permanently.
The Saraswat brahmins in Bengal played a very positive role in the society's Renaissance, Reformation and Enlightenment.
Another Hilsa fried brain myth. Gauda stands for North as opposed to Dravida that is south, the Gaura kingdom in Vanga came much after the migration of GSBs from Trihotra to Gomantaka. After eating too much Hilsa and thinking Porthmer Aloo, this region thinks adam and eve also started there. And many of the Sen are migrants from Karnataka. The founder of Sena dynasty is supposed to be Samanthasena, a migrant Brahmakshatrya from Karanatak :-D. How come those who stayed back have Dhanwantri Gotras, while none of GSB have it? The fact is many of these were not even part of original Dashgotri panch-Gauda Brahmins.

Once a brahmana not always a brahmana. As they take on other professions especially jobs with a salary, then the so-called brahmanas become vaisyas or Sudras. A typical brahmanas occupation should be always related to Vedic knowledge , tapasya, puja, and temple duties…the Vedic or Santana culture is very clear on that. You can’t be selling leather shoes in a shop, for a salary, eat meat and drink and smoke and call yourself a brahmana…
