18 year olds should not be allowed to purchase guns. There’s an immaturity associated with being that young since the average human brain doesnt fully develop until 25. Someone younger than that shouldn’t have any business owning a gun and this is the best example of why.
Using age to justify humans not committing crimes is why crimes like this still happens. At some point lawmakers, or in your case law suggesters should realize it’s based on the individual. Just gonna put this out here, since 1982, 123 shootings were done by a male shooter, only three mass shootings were done by a female. This might sound crazy to some but, MENS MENTAL HEALTH MATERS!!!!
Actually incredibly true, I haven’t known one man around me that hasn’t struggled with something, you let that “cooping” get to anger or hate, all with a side of self malice and everything being “worthless”, and you’ve made yourself someone so broken, that any evil deed is imaginable.
Sadly, for too many homicidal young people, the real question seems to be, "Why not?" because our society makes mass shootings look so easy. I am saddened for every family and community member affected. 😭Not to mention, petrified that another homicidal young person is watching and preparing to copy this crime.
Im thinking it is from an undiagnosed mental health problem. I just dont see a motive in committing a crime on this level. Surely they had warning signs. I dont understand this.
I’m a bit confused how you talk about school shootings like it’s something normal people want to do. Yet you fail to link the fact that society refuses to recognize there’s a mental health crisis in America and the system is broken? “Homicidal young people” are not normal. Everything about your wording and thought processing is part of the problem. People do not want to acknowledge anyone or anything that is not “nice” for them to see or hear. So kids with mental illness showing signs are ignored and not helped. Leading to things like…school shootings. Healthy children do not just wake up homicidal. Society needs to start getting angry at the lack of concern for proper mental healthcare in the US. THAT is where ALL anger should be directed. And society needs to stop turning their head the other way when they’re confronted with anything unpleasant. This kid showed plenty of warning signs before this happened. He was failed. Our system failed him, society failed him…and he lost his life along with coooountless others and none of it needed to happen.

Nope. “We don’t have any rigorous causal evidence that says armed guards reduce school shootings or school violence,” said Matthew Mayer, a professor at Rutgers University who studies violence in educational settings. The criminologists at Texas State University’s ALERRT program have studied responses to active shooter incidents more generally. According to ALERRT’s 2013 analysis of 160 incidents, lethal force from police or bystanders has brought an end to a little less than a third of active shooter rampages, but not usually in schools. In the 25 shootings in the ALERRT study that targeted schools, none were brought to an end by armed staff, guards or police officers returning fire. These shootings most commonly ended when the shooters were restrained by unarmed staff. Gunmen have often targeted schools with armed guards. In four high-profile 2018 school shootings - Kentucky’s Marshall County High School in January; Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February; Maryland’s Great Mills High School in March, and Santa Fe High School in Texas in May - attackers stormed campuses despite the presence of armed guards. In all four of those cases, guards failed to stop the gunman from killing.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's that simple. First of all, our public schools are underfunded as it is, so the matter of money would make this very difficult. Since our Government is incompetent, we'd most likely see money cut from school programs already in place (like money for teachers, after school programs, etc.) to pay for these guards. And that's to assume it would even help to have them there. There were three officers on the scene before Ramos entered the school, and they couldn't stop him. No shame to the officers, it's an incredibly stressful situation, and at the end of the day we all want to make it home safe, but if they couldn't do anything, I'm not certain if one guard could of stopped something like this. As someone who is in my last year of schooling before I become a teacher, it's a horrifying prospect that this could happen, but unfortunately, unless we have some big changes, I don't see things getting any better.

I saw one report today on the timeline of events. If true, I have a serious question to ask. According to that report, the gunman entered the school around 11:30 A.M. This entry was contested and police were on the scene. Around 1:00 P.M., the police breached the classroom and shot the gunman. So, if that's true, it took 1.5 hours for the police to stop this shooter. Why did it take so long for the police to enter the building? I don't know if this timeline is accurate. I've only seen it described in one news report.
SWAT (2003) ft. Collin Ferrell... watch it. I have no idea what agencies were involved with responding to this active-shooter situation but if it was anything like a SWAT team, I know they never just outright rush-in. 1) There could be bombs / traps / unknown # of actual shooters. It can cost hostages' lives using crucial time for on-scene assessment prior to launching offensives yes, but see #2 2) It can lead to way more hostages being killed in many, many situations if you rush-in. Not to mention the officers / SWAT/Task force team. (edit) I reread your comment and fully agree that if cops wrestled with the guy before he even entered the school, it is sad they couldn't immediately pursue him inside. Pure speculation on my part but perhaps if there's automatic weapons involved, cops are specifically told to kinda stand down and call for SWAT... again, pure speculation on my part
@@Warffles what about the situation here though? These werent hostages, they were targets. SWAT is trained to take down threats as soon as they emerge in a situation like this, not to wait until the shooting stops. They mustve had orders from higher up.
@@Warffles Although all of those scenarios are possible in an active-shooter situation, I think they had more of a reason to risk immediate action than to wait. Also, I believe current police policy is to immediately respond to and deal with the shooter. So, the gunman had over an hour to shoot all the students and teachers stuck in that room. As far as who responded, a Border Patrol agent took out the gunman. I don't know who else was involved in the initial response outside the school. Like I said earlier, this timeline may be inaccurate. I hope it is inaccurate.

From my understanding each state provides assistance to the public. As matter of fact I think each county or city has its own hospital for people with mental heath issues. Hire a armed security guard at every school. Problem solved.
American moment:
if your tax money pays for it... oh wait nvm that goes to the army
Euthanize every Republican, problem solved.

It can cost hostages' lives using crucial time for on-scene assessment prior to launching offensives yes, but see #2
2) It can lead to way more hostages being killed in many, many situations if you rush-in.

Less then 1% are from mass shootings so a few hundred at best and most deaths are from pistols. So in terms of raw statistics the deaths are a tiny percentage in the country.
We lose more people every year to other things.
