- The Only Rock We Eat? the History of SALT!
Its the only rock we eat. In this video, we'll focus on the Story of Salt. Once considered sacred now superfluous. What could me more common than the salt and pepper at our tables? Let's take a deep dive into the rich history of this amazing mineral! - Krátké a kreslené filmy
So I wake up in the middle off the night wondering about the history of salt and here we are. The internet is a great thing.
Why did we both have this thought so close to each other man
Why the hell did people do before the internet when they wanted to know some obscure fact? Imagine having to read a whole damn book just to answer one question.
Wtf, i was about to comment the same thing
*When the algorithm hits*
Same here
I looked this up for my kids. They wanted to know how salt and pepper got thier names. We listened to this over our dinner table. Thank you for putting this together for us. Your closing comments really hit home . The kids and I wonder what future generations will think of us fighting over oil when they are running on solar and renewables. ?????
That's so awesome to heard! Thank you for sharing!
Comments like this are so wholesome. I can’t wait to be a dad myself and do research with my kids together.

@@HistoricalEats Yea Im currently going back and watching all your stuff!
@@spencer6207 you're the real MVP! Let me know if there's a topic you'd like to see next??
Great video! But I clicked on this hoping to find out how salt went from such a valuable item to so cheap and commonplace today.
Because we have industrial machines today that makes it easier and quicker to refine so it can get out the masses quicker vs before in the old times days!
I woke up and looked up "life before salt" because i thought it was horrible
I love these videos!
You haven’t released anything in close to a year though!
Man, the fact you noticed that actually made my day. Thanks, I will make more videos!
@@HistoricalEats heck yeah man, you did great with these! It takes a long time to get into the algorithm though, so don’t be discouraged! Maybe do a video on the history of Korean food- and other foods in general!
@@HistoricalEats bro i legit always look at these kind of infographic video and i can assure you yours are of really good quality !! Even if you chose to stop you can be assured that you did a good job !!
Hey can someoje tell me the reason why salt so expensife in the past? Does it for it usefulness? Or there is another reason?
It wasn't easy to get back then. You had to mine it, and that was tough labor. And, it was the most useful substance. It preserved food!
@@HistoricalEats did any one try boiling sea water over fire?
Ive seen a lot of people do videos on youtube where they just boil sea water and get like some kind of edible sea salt
@@NeostormXLMAX Desalination has been known to history for millennia as both a concept, and later practice, though in a limited form. The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle observed in his work Meteorology that “salt water, when it turns into vapour, becomes sweet and the vapour does not form salt water again when it condenses,” and also noticed that a fine wax vessel would hold potable water after being submerged long enough in seawater, having acted as a membrane to filter the salt.[122] There are numerous other examples of experimentation in desalination throughout Antiquity and the Middle Ages,[123] but desalination was never feasible on a large scale until the modern era.[124] A good example of this experimentation are the observations by Leonardo da Vinci (Florence, 1452), who realized that distilled water could be made cheaply in large quantities by adapting a still to a cookstove.[125] During the Middle Ages elsewhere in Central Europe, work continued on refinements in distillation, although not necessarily directed towards desalination.[126].

Precisely because of how useful it was. Not only was it considered scarred, for rituals and offerings. But, it was used as a food preservative before the invention of refrigeration. So, I can't help but imagine how vital it was in this function of storing storing food over the course of history.
@@HistoricalEats ooohh i understand now... thankyou... basically its like one time use refrigerator....
Why do i even searched for the history of salt!
My other side inside me told me : fool just eat the salt and mind your business 😂
Stay hungry for knowledge, my friends!
@@HistoricalEats that’s the point ❤️ thank you
Bruh i thought this channel would have like a million subs after looking at the video ignoring the comments and description but only suit only 366 subs? Fuck man
