Binary Sunset: An Octave Higher (Star Wars Trombone Cover)

- Welcome to my latest cover! In this video, I play "Binary Sunset" from Star Wars, an iconic and beloved theme. To step it up, I played in an octave higher, reaching all the way to G5 on a tenor trombone!
"Binary Sunset", composed by legendary John Williams, is a memorable theme from the Star Wars saga. By shifting it up an octave, I challenge my range and make this usually easy theme into a massive obstacle. Even if you haven't seen Star Wars, I hope you enjoy this rendition!

Equipment:
Not sure what model the trombone is but the mouthpiece I used is a Vincent Bach 12C.

Fellow trombone player. I tried this in high school. I gave myself a nosebleed.
omg were you alright 😅
@@Elevate-music1 physically I was fine but my giant of a band teacher was NOT happy. He would have continued to yell at me if I wasn't "a walking bio hazard". So he threw a tissue box at me and sent me to the nurse.
@@showerthoughts1469 Thats funny
Your tone on that high G is better than mine and i play it on horn 💀💀
thanks😅
To be fair it is a high D6 on horn which is nasty to hit
I love it how the note was red, but you still hit it! 😁
I wrote the music on flat.io. If you click on the note then it plays the note. The funny thing is that the note (G5) is so high that the program doesn’t even play it if you click on it lol
@@Elevate-music1 I use flat too! Can we follow each other? What's your username?
I can’t even begin to describe to you how much I love this
thank you ❤
i’m a flute player who tried out trombone for 4 days during my community’s band camp and A.) i can’t even read some of these notes, and B.) when i tried trombone, i couldn’t even make it to that first 4th position G 💀💀
what a godly embouchure.
Tysm, glad to see a woodwind player trying out the brass lol. I have been learning oboe and am doing well (but making reeds is a whole other problem). I am glad you tried trombone!
Thats enough playing for a bit 😅
Also if anyone has video suggestions please let me know
100 Likes and you play it up the octave again.
@@Nexo-uz1ee 💀God no
@@Elevate-music1 pathetic
@@Nexo-uz1ee I’d have to switch to trumpet lol
Bourgeois trombone concerto movement 3
Wow my comment on your video
yeah lol
Absolutely earned that sub, keep up the good work my guy! I’m gonna have to get my old tenor out now lol.
Thank you so much for the support! Definitely get the tenor out and start playing again, it’s never too late to get back into it!
well done!
@@redx738 I’m glad you think so!
Wow
@@MusicGuy2 ❤️
Bro needs 2 clefs to play this
fr
Last week I was playing som high notes and it was about an octave higher then this highest note😆
I mean at that point it’s just squeaking…can you play a scale in only 1st position?
@@Elevate-music1 yes, very fun to do tbh
If you can keep your notes big and blow through them to make them a little cleaner and still be able to hit that high note then that would be the perfect video
Yeah I have been working on air support. Practice makes better! Thank you for the support
No problem
bro idk how u can hit that high i’ve been playing for like almost 4 years and the highest note i can hit confidently is high C
I have been playing for 5! Range comes with practice and practice comes with time
Incredible. I am done at Bb', on good days I reach b' and maybe c''. Any tips on how to get higher? And I am on alto already lol
You can try adjusting your mouth to be lower on the mouthpiece. I also try to imagine to blow air slightly more downward as I get higher and higher. Good luck!
@@Elevate-music1 Thanks so much.
Full recording of "Got A Match?" by Chick Corea. I want an improvised solo too... and the whole thing at the original tempo or close to it. On trombone please
Let’s see- I haven’t always been good at improv but I will let you know if it works out
Great, now do it down an octave
didn't Trombone Timo do this
may your chops rest tho that's insane range
He did but that was on an alto! Im playing on a tenor!!!
i can play up to a double Bb with good tone, maybe a C, but above that is impossible. how can you do it so well?
I try to focus my airstream sharply downward for the really high notes while pushing a lot of air through
10 likes another octave up
You can’t say that when I already have 10 likes :(
Well done, from another trombone player. How long have you been playing? How old are you?
I am turning 15 this summer and have been playing trombone for around 4-5 years (but I didn’t practice much during the pandemic lol)
@@Elevate-music1 I started nine years ago. I was 11, I'm 19 now.
@@kiltedpatriotatheart Oh wow! I respect the commitment
@@Elevate-music1 Thanks. You've been at it for a while yourself.
I've always wondered about making trombone videos like this, but what camera and or mic do you use? Was it expensive?
@@kiltedpatriotatheart I use my cell phone for video and audio…I haven’t bought anything yet
I recognize your sound as something I once had an issue with. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you are separating the air between notes with your throat rather than your tongue. Your tongue should be making the movement of saying “ta” when you start each note
@@braydenmanning8075 I think thats just the editing but I do have trouble with having a good tone. I recently have been playing more long tones to trying to get a rounder & fuller sound.
Fun fact: it’s physically impossible for a flute to play this if it was directly transposed to treble clef
Assuming I’m thinking correctly, there’s a note that’s too low
Transpose another octave up then :)
now all you have to do is to do it in one take :D
Nailing that high G along with everything else would be a miracle
The note was good, check your tuning tho
yeah- it could be better
i think you can go one more octave higher
you think so?
Please don't make it a habit to play high. As a tuba player i can confidently tell you that playing long and low notes is the best way to improve the way you sound. Playing really high is probably the least important part of playing any low brass instrument.
thanks for the advice
Yo if you work on your tone a bit, you’ll be a beast.
thanks!
Buy a trumpet 😁
Too many leger lines...
honestly, either work your high notes or just quit playing trombone
