- Description
Produced for Art in Yorkshire's 2014 programme this film explores the exhibition 'Rossetti's Obsession' with curator Jill Iredale of Cartwright Hall Art Gallery and Jan Marsh, President of the William Morris Society who discusses Dante Gabriel Rossetti's portraits of Jane Burden Morris.
Jan Marsh is very knowledgeable I having spoken to her once, 'she really knows her stuff'.
I would have liked to have seen this exhibition.
Another person who would have also liked to have seen it was the artist L.S.Lowry.
Like myself he loved Rossetti drawings of woman.
Lowry paid £5,000 for the oil painting Proserpine which later sold for over £1,000,000 Jane being the model for the painting.
Rossetti was a genius and everybody knew that fact at the time.
He along with William Blake was a poet and painter.
Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones said ' I owe EVERYTHING to Rossetti
Better stop as I could go on for ever about this great artist.
Love this art of Rossetti much.
Bravo. Thank you for this. Where would have Rossetti been without his many models and muses?
Nice straightforward presentation. Thanks for posting.
This is splendid material. It lets you understand the artist so well. Many thanks.
He wasn’t painting Jane, he was painting a stylised version of her, which was beautiful.
Jane Morris was his muse
Sorry I missed this....
Where have all the muses gone?
Mark Richard Beaulieu I’m here
Was Jane even literate when she met the members of the PRB?
Ignorantona.
