  • This video is an overview of the purpose and versatility of hand presses for setting rivets, snaps, grommets etc. My affiliate link (paid link) to the generic press that uses the same dies as the Kam DK93 and the Minkus Margo dies is amzn.to/3hY8wfd. The link to my accessories for the presses is doodabug.com/product-category...

    Thank you Debby for the great information on these presses. I have the Gold Star press and kind of wish I had ordered a more generic one like the Kam Press. However, I will keep it for rivet setting. I had also ordered the press plates from Hollie. BTW, I really like your hair. Very flattering on you.

    Thanks Debby for you replies. So if I continue to move forward with my plan to be a leather worker, which press would you reccomend?
    I like the DX93 because both the press and the dies are cheaper than what you get with the Tandy press. On the other hand, I'm afraid that since Tandy is strictly a leather company, that in the future I will run into a problem is I need Tandy Dies that are not available for the DX93. Any thoughts?

    great vid, will look into getting the press plates. Can you show me more examples of what you use the little hole cutters for? wish they came in the shape of strap connectors. Also could you get a custom stamp made with your logo and use it in a hand press to put your logo onto wet leather? I saw someone do this with the arbor press, but it seems like it should also work with your plate in the bottom and the custom stamp impression on the top. Any idea who would make that with the piece that inserts into the top part of the press?

    digging out my press again (after almost 2 years - broke my arm in 3 places) so more questions. it's been a while. does one half of the rivet die always have that rubberized end? I never did mark mine (getting little containers for them is on my list once I figure out what I have). I do know that my top is 8mm threads and the bottom is 19. so I guess it's the same as the DK93? good to know.
    I know you said to LABEL, LABEL, LABEL. too late. any suggestions on how to identify which dies are for what and what size they accommodate? thanks!

It’s extra 5$ up to even 15 20 for like 1/2 inch grommets and dies ! But I seen you have the flat plates that fit ? Where can find them and what can do with it ?! Ty

    Hi Debby, just a lil note.. KAM has a snap remover for the dreaded mishap when applying a snap. I just happened to see a video they've put out for it. I'm still confused! I have no idea what dies to get nor which press. could you possibly streamline this info? ex .. If you get this or that machine you need this die for these rivets/snaps. For myself there was so much info crisscrossing somewhere I got twisted. I know all the details were important, please don't get me wrong I just need a press thats umm maybe not that brand specific (?) I'm making bags need 8mm /9mm single/double sided rivets & grommets but im not sure thats possible from what Im understanding..hence lolol I got lost. Can we say info overload for this B.I. recovering noggin. lolol I sure appreciate your help

  • @ssergeant9682
    @ssergeant9682 Před 4 lety

    the most difficult thing I came across when looking for dies for my 'generic' presses was the thread type and diameter for the top part of the die. I believe mine required an 8mm thread. I was able to get the super sharp hole punch from kamsnap (KX Awl Piercing Dies). since there were no returns if it didn't work I ordered it and crossed my fingers. it did work. however the bottom didn't fit and I needed an adapter. I've since purchased the kamsnap handheld version of their table press (Professional Stand-Up / Mini-Table Press for Snaps, Rivets, Grommets & Buttons (KX-T2 KAM)). but again what I had a hard time finding were the dimensions of the top threading on dies thru EBAY and Amazon.
    I still am not sure which is what when it comes to ring snaps, etc. the plastic snaps thru Kam are super easy to use with their little hand press. As for the 4 part snaps - seems like if you're only doing one or two - there is a lot of switching out die parts. am I confused? I experienced a multiple fracture earlier this year and used the snaps on a bra strap. I cut the strap and installed snaps so I could get dressed without help. I plan on making a few blouses and would like to use metal snaps as opposed to plastic so I'm still trying to figure out what i need and how to use them.
    this was helpful. thank you for posting.

    Debby! Thanks for the help that your video has provided. I'm a leather working beginner and would like to buy those press plates but was wondering if you have any that are magnetic which would help secure the cheaper cutting dies you were referring to. Thanks!

    • @DebbyHunker
      @DebbyHunker  Před 3 lety

      They aren't magnetic, but you can get flat, round magnets that will stick to the press plate and the dies. I've used that method for cutting larger round holes that didn't require perfect placement.
