i dont know the real reason, but fractions help more with engineering and construction more. though we wouldnt ever use 6/16 since that simplifies to 3/8, but its just something to do with jobs here, like cutting metal and wood, since tools like measuring tape simply dont have decimals on them here, so its just easier to use the fraction. if you grew up here, it does make sense, but not if you didnt and grew up with a different standard.

We're taught metric in school. What we don't have is frame of reference. We don't grow up being told "that person is 160 cm", we are told "that person is 5'2''". Teachers across the country collectively said "no" and so to this day we only know enough about the metric system to supplement the Imperial system.
