I remember hearing her on AGT the first time. If you like this from she was a little girl, I recommend that you listen to her now that she's a grown-up.

Of all the "wunderkind", this is the best, most adult, most polished performance for a soprano! AFTER Jackie , every pre-teen or teen AGT singer has been required to sing this, and while they have done well, Jackie sang it with an ADULT voice. IF she [as a tenor] had sung this, she might have have given Jussi Bjorling a run for his money,, but this is a Tenor's masterpiece, not a soprano's. Despite that, ALL credit to Jackie. This was stupendous!

Her first time performing N D on stage, was actually in concert, one of her first after AGT tour was finished. FEB. 2011 IN BOCA RATON, FL... i went last minute, sped across the State on SR 80 !!!
Glad another fan there had convinced me to make the 175 mile trek.
I got a raw audio of it... I WAS STUNNED. So was everyone there.
Prior to this song, she was back stage on a break... her mic was hot. We all heard her worried cry that she was scared, no shit, knowing the task ahead whete we in audience did not yet know what was to bless us all. SHE BLEW US ALL AWAY. AND OF COURSE WITNESSED it again at Dream With Me In Concert, the PBS Great Performances production, produced so well, by SONY.

While I believe RD is right, Boca was a big deal for her, as she was singing with 4 opera singers from New York City's Metropolitan Opera Co.

@rickrack4812 that's only speculation. AGT has never acknowledged that and it would be a slap in the face to Michael Grimm.

@@elizabethhurley1129 elizabeth, Jackie's parents would not accept the contractual conditions that would have been required of 10 year old Jackie at that time were she to win. Moreover, before the Finale, Simon Cowell, together with David Foster who had discovered Jackie a year earlier, had offered Jackie a contract with Columbia Records/Syco Music to record an EP ( "O Holy Night") which was released within 2 months of the AGT Finale and immediately went Platinum. It was a win-win outcome. Michael Grimm got the $1M he needed to build a new home for his grandmother who lost her house to the Catrina disaster and a steady gig in Las Vegas. Jackie became an international star with both Platinum and Gold albums within a year and was a multi-millionaire at age 12.
The reality behind "reality shows" is not necessarily what it appears. Producers reserve the right to determine outcomes that are in the best interest of contestants and the show.

@@elizabethhurley1129 Grimm "won" the million $$$ over 40 years, a prize worthy of his abilities, and even he would say that. There were several big acts discovered that year where each act would never sign with SYCO for that million $ prize. The topic of votes lost, mistakes made were thrown out there and were VERY likely not true. SYCO/AGT stated at the bottom of the closing credits that AGT reserved the right to set the final standings [for the reason that every so often AGT would uncover REAL talent and would have to have the financial "wiggle room" to convert a contestant over from the 'contestant contract' to a performer's contract. 2005, the year of "Jackie" proposed SERIOUS contractual problems for AGT/SYCO which were resolved about one month AFTER the AGT 5th season in a merger with Sony/Columbia. If you are interested, I'll explain it later even though I was not involved. in October of the same year, after AGT wrapped for the season that August, Sony/Columbia bought SYCO from Cowell, and moments later, Jackie was signed by Sony/Columbia to a $5 million development contract that committed David Foster to Jack for a year [plus many occasions afterwards].

Prior to Jackie, the only other time I am aware that a female had sang Nessun Dorma was when teen aged Deanna Durban sang it in 1933 during a movie. During the 2011 "Dream With Me" concert, Foster gave an introduction to the song, finally naming it. The second he did, you could hear gasps from the crowd and someone exclaimed "Oh, my God!" from the audience. [right along with me at home, I might add]. This aria is now a staple in any performance by a young female contestant. Oh, and thanks, Shakes for showing this. MUCH appreciated!

    • @jordannash1998
      @jordannash1998 Před rokem +1

In 2010's AGT season, she had auditioned two times live and was rejected twice. The third time was through AGT's "online auditions" where she sang 'Panis Angelicus'. AGT had promised to allow 10 of the top 40 submissions to appear on the show. AGT would do the picking of all the contestants except the top vote-getting contestant, who would be selected by the audience at large's votes. Jackie's mom contacted Haley Westenra's Fan Club for ideas and support. With their votes and support, Jackie placed first and had to be allowed to compete.
I have read the "Contestant" contract from that time. There were requirements laid out for the "Winner" and other requirements for the "finalists". Let me assure you that NO family court judge in America would allow that contract to be enforced against ANY minor, much less a ten year old. This put AGT in a difficult position. From her first appearance, they knew they had a problem.
She probably could not be allowed to win 1st place because [1] the $1,000,00 over 40 years would not be adequate for a true talent and the contract clauses would prevent AGT from managing her as they would other talents. [2] However, while AGT never promised that the top vote-getter would be the winner - [read the disclaimer at the bottom of the last minute of each program.] [3] Fortunately, Foster saw her performances and showed interest. [4] Since Sony Music Columbia was already contemplating the completion of a total buyout of SYCO since [5] SYCO usually signed the winner to a performer's contract since they had first right of refusal on the winner, but if that couldn't happen, maybe Sony/Columbia, an American based company could since [6] SYCO is British and Jackie needed a U.S. based label to manage her.
Roughly, in October 2010 Sony/Columbia and SYCO completed their deal. Jackie had to be an interesting topic, but not necessarily the driving force. So Cowell sold SYCO but kept AGT and received label credit for her discovery while Columbia became her managing label.
Foster was included in the Development contract and the job of directing the first year of her career, a role he held as a personal mentor for MUCH longer than the original year.
I felt you had to know the true effect a ten year old singer had on the music industry. She didn't CAUSE all that, but solving how to make it all work properly took the serious genius of Cowell, Foster, Sony/Columbia and her parents. Sorry this is so long, but this is the short version, believe me.

You are right about how AGT and BGT have used her over the years. Not too long ago, AGT had a "Champions" season. Jackie appeared. The way her performance was edited I can't believe she was a serious contestant. More of a draw for other acts and ratings.
By the way, Shakes, the winner of BGT that night was a dog act. Seriously. Just another example of Cowell's genius. Like I say, First prize is not for world class acts, because no one can predict there will BE a huge act at this sort of 'contest'. The pattern I have witnessed is that the top act comes in second, avoiding the Winner's clauses in the 'contestant's' contract and can then be signed to a better 'performer's' contract. I suspect that two or three acts in 2010's AGT contract couldn't 'win' for that reason. "Fighting Gravity", possibly "Prince Poppycock" along with Jackie, and who knows who else? 2010 AGT was a pretty good year.

All true, I w as s there at The Ringling....but she sang it on stage for the first time in Boca Raton, a couple months prior. She was nervous, as rhe audience heard that cause her mic was hot-mic, backstage, yet knocked it outta da park... I was stunned.

@@rickrack4812 I remember 'hot mic'. I was not there, but knowing her, that would have been a good thing, because when she IS nervous or scared, she KILLS it. Boca was a big deal. She sang at a concert with four stars of the Met sort of like she did in St. Petersburg, RU in 2013. If I ever get a time machine, Boca, St. Pete and her Houston concert would instantly go on my 'bucket list".

Jackie at age 11 was a guest not a competitor on BGT. Jackie was also asked to return to AGT several times also as a guest. By the way just a small correction, Jackie was the runner up not the winner. But of course she should have come in first.
