I feel like we take these artist's techniques for granted, considering stuff like photoshop wouldn't come in until the very late 1900s, so it's impressive to see his editing skills put to amazing work. My favorite piece has to be the spread toast piece he did, looks really well put together honestly
more like specifically the 1990s, but I get your point
one thing a lot of people dont realize is people back then still had tools to ake it faster and quicker. It may not of been modern technology but it was still technology of their time that made processes shorter, easier, and faster. A good example is an art tool called the Camera Ludica. They may not of had photoshop but they had things that worked just as well lol
@@spiralingspiral72 1987 actually
@@spiralingspiral72 crazy enough adobe illustrator existed even before photoshop lol
@@Peak_Palette I didn't know illustrator is that old. It's interesting to see how adobe made 2 really banger products (PS and illustrator), then proceed to acquire virtually everything else to stifle competition.
Also i want a camera lucida so bad, idk why lol.
legitimately one of the most under rated youtube channels i've come accross. i've never considred myself to be interested in art, but channels like yours have help me come to appreciate them more. thanks for all the work you put into the channel, hope to see more to come.
So heartwarming! With comment like yours, you can definitely expect more to come! Thank you!!
@@TheCanvasArtHistory Im a bit new to your channel but will you be covering works done by zdzisław beksiński? Theres also a video called the nightmare artist by In Praise of Shadows I recommend you watch if you have not.
Just watch out for his thinly veiled commie propaganda...
@@TheCanvasArtHistory I took Art Appreciation as an elective in College and hated it. I'm learning so much more and appreciating art thanks to your channel and other similar channels. Thanks!
Thank you for helping me realize I love art. What you are doing is so important!
At first, I misread it as "Thank you for helping me realize I don't love art". Imagine such a commentary under a detailed and competent lecture video.
I'm glad I found this channel. Talking about art from a left-leaning lense is definitely something that fits all my niches.
Liberal
@@supremesadness999Liberals are spineless. Leftist all the way bay-bee
@@supremesadness999 lol no I'm not a damn liberal
@@NemoK ok liberal
@@supremesadness999 you don't... know anything do you
It's so interesting that he would change his name in protest to anti-British sentiments. I've heard of American immigrants changing their names to to avoid anti-German sentiment, so something a bit like the reverse surprised me.
Thanks for introducing me to Heartfield's work. I can't believe that somehow I've missed it all these years. The impact of his work is staggering when you realize he was going up against the most monolithic human hate machine of modern times. Damn, that's absolutely heroic.
The way you make content - amazing! Thank you for such great topics in your videos.
Thank you so much Inna!!
Hi! Can you pls do a video on the Australian gold rush painting 'Down On His Luck' it is my single most favourite Australian painting and its one of the most saddening paintings out there! As an Australia this will mean a lot to me and no one of CZcams has really done a break down of it!
Thank you!
Regards, Charles Begley
i like this idea as a fellow Australian myself :]
The image of John Heartfield cutting the Berlin police chief image and your description is by far one of the most interesting things I heard in a while. This channel is making art more interesting for me.
i didn't know i needed a channel in my life that delved so deeply into historical art and taught me about the important cornerstones that came from it. as a long time artist who feels like they don't know enough about art history, you're extremely good at captivating me and making it easy to want to listen and learn. really enjoying all of the content i've been coming across from your channel. i hope you grow exponentially and get the recognition you've more than earned from all of the effort you put into these videos.
The balls to publish the art at this time. really really great
just got recommended to your channel today, and wow. i am so blown away, i look forward to watching your video essays for years to come! Also super excited about your artist residency project!! May it flourish in the coming months 🙏
Thanks for the video!
I’m not only learning about artists and their paintings, in some videos I can really picture myself and compare the artists thoughts and your thoughts with my own thoughts about the world and the way I see things!
I’m exploring my self and my inner thoughts and I’m learning a great deal about myself!
Thanks again for the video😁
The performance art by actress Kathy Griffith, where she held up the Trump mask, simulating a severed head, reminded me of Heartfield's 1929 self portrait.
Wish there were more channels like this. I've been searching for a long time. Love the content. Please keep it coming
Just found you on accident and I super adore this channel so far ! Getting my art nerding on, love it
Just found your channel recently, I've been loving the content. Thanks for the effort and great execution
Beautiful video, I love the art criticism with interspersed history
Your narratives are absolutely brilliant! Have learned so much from watching your channel. Thank You for sharing your knowledge!🤙
Amazing channel, can’t wait to see your CZcams influence grow
Thank you for the amazing & informative videos, you always create informative, yet digestable and intriguing content!
This is my favourite video by you! Brilliant! ✊
Thank you for reminding me of Heartfelt! I was randomly assigned him as a pioneer of design back in my university days and the images I studied stick with me today.
tysm for this perfect video!! I am currently making a school presentation for english class about him since he was such a big inspo for me and the way he made his political art really spoke to me since nobody i knew was really into it. This video helped me group my thoughts so easily!! Definitely subscribing
C'est passionnant ! Depuis que je connais ta chaîne, je dévore les vidéos les unes après es autres. Merci beaucoup.
Amazing and very insightful!! Going to look up more of his work after this :)
I feel like im learning so much from your videos. Its like a really interesting school lesson.
love your channel bro, 70k already is crazy.
This is an amazing channel wow!! Thank you! Right on man! ❣️Really interested in your artist residency!
I got really into poster art & wheatpasting during the anti-war protests in the mid 00s and came across Heartfield's name. I remembered looking him up after SOAD's first album. Reading about a guy who made anti-authoritarian propaganda and had to jump out of a window to get away from the cops felt relatable. The phrase "the hand has five fingers, with all five you grab the enemy" is so powerful, its a call to action that demands my participation in the struggle 100 years later. His contributions are so under-appreciated and its a shame so many people have never heard of him. Thank you for this video.
i found out about your channel literally today and i’m so happy i did. the quality and research put into your videos are incredible and i can’t wait to see the channel grow
This literally is my favorite channel for art.💙
I've discovered this channel lately and it sparkled an interest in me for paintings and stuff. This one is also a necessary political video. Congrats!
My photography course visited an exhibition with his art last year and it was incredibly interesting! One guy even did a project on him later that year!
Thank you for doing this work. very important. Love this channel !!!
Thank you. I'm new to this channel and I am eager to explore your videos
Incredible showcase, story telling and execution of it all. I subscribed too. Hope you are doing well and are eager to make more of this great content.
thank you for making such interesting and instructive videos! thank god we still have some people who make those on youtube these days...
Great video, glad to contribute
Never been here before but I’ll certainly be back. Fantastic presentation
Man I'm so glad I found your channel
Excellent and well read video as always
I like and enjoy the information you provide of art and the artist as well thank you
I love love love your channel! Please keep the great content coming:)
Love your videos! You definitely deserve more subs!
Thank you--I did not know what Dadaism was. Great work here, by you and Heartfield. It made me wonder if Terry Gilliam was influenced by Heartfield, and it also reminded me that I created a photomontage in my early twenties, a scathing re-mix of a Virginia Slims advertisement. (You've come a long way, baby! Ha!)
Interesting, thank you. Btw, Heartfield joined the KPD (Kommunstische Partei Deutschlands), not the 'KDP'.
Excellent piece!
thankyou so much for making this video...made my final project for 12th grade on it and it turned out too good.
Thank you so much for your videos. They make me very relaxed but they also have showed me that art is still beautiful even after some trauma i got in Art School, and i really am thankful for this channel and all your work 💜
Well done!
May we all keep fighting as long!✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
Hey! I am loving your channel, your content is so well made. I humbly recommend the garden of earthly delights for one of your videos. It tells such a deep story.
Fantastic content. 👍
This channel deserves millions of views, quality content, keep up the good work man, greetings from Argentina!
I'm so glad I found your channel
Thank you. Keep up your good work.
Very good. Quite a discovery (the man and the channel).
8:33 You ignored the best part of the "Sinn des Hitlergrußes" poster. "Motto: I am supported by millions"
This pun is genius. Millions of what? Not Germans, as Hitler would claim, but millions of Mark from the capitalists bankrolling Hitler.
So glad I got reccomended this channel. It's actually crazy how the photomontage of attention bombardment is just as relevant today as it was back then.
Will you also make videos about beksinski's art? love your content
congrats on 100k subs
Very well done! Thank you for teaching me something today. 🙂
Great presentation …good luck on the residency
Thanks! Good content!
Could you make a video on complete list of drawing materials and art genres (op art, futurism, retro - there are so many interesting types of visual forms) - just a beginner who is interested in the subject 😁😁
A great video lesson!
Really great informative video
Loved this one young og
What a brave man Heartfield was! Being openly against the Nazis has been deadly for many Germans at this time.
Just found the channel through this video :)
I wonder if I can use any if Heartfields work as album cover art?
Would be great to revive some of his images in these troubling times
the quality of this art is outstanding
Great video! u should make one about Zdzisław Beksiński
Can you make a video about "The garden of earthly delights (hell)" painting?
This thing is so interesting to me. I would like to know who made this creature and why.
I would be so greatful, if you do so :))))
This artist reminded me instantly of the famous picture of Woody Guthrie in '43 -- 'this machine kills fascists' written on his guitar. It's sad, but Heartfield and Guthrie are still significant today.
One of my favorite artists as well.
2:27 May day communist party
5:33 propaganda Vs propaganda
7:22 the meaning of Geneva AIZ
9:40 socialism Vs fascism
11:50 Heartfield is still fighting
Extremely thoughtful 👏
Heartfiled is also one of my favourite artist, he is above art, above fight for manipulated people, above all criticism and every other "ism". So strong in his thoughts and so brave in his interpretations. Infinite glory ❤
he was hard hitting, and still worthy work today.
I am 4 minutes in and fascinated, its like design school, but cooler.
That magazine cover reminds me of this summers issue of 2600 where they made a mock ai generated set of images of SCOTUS judges
I'm 4 months late to the party and haven't been thru all the comments, but I would recommend looking at the influence JH had on British artist Peter Kennard. You may not recognise the name but I'm pretty sure you'll have seen some of his work.
Pleas a video about Lascaux im so facinated about it
Excellent, completely forgot about him... thanks!
wow very good video i didnt konw about Heartfield thank you
i love your chair. please dont change it. :)
Knot seas canvas tears
Thoughtful dissertation shown
Heart outstanding lots
#haiku #welldone
In German school we do learn about some of his pictures but never about him as a person which is a shame
started in Ap Art History, now i’m here
nice detail @ 3:12 ... sensitive drawing
Thanks!
Thank you.
And the relevance lives on and on
Now I finally understand the brutal truth about fascism. Thanks for your video!! Kind regards from Ásgeir in Iceland.
Can I make a request. Can you do a picture/video of John Berger's Art of Seeing.
can you give sources for your video? like books about the topic?
I read somewhere that during the war, many of these images were printed-up as postcard sized stickers and distributed to children.... who gleefully stuck them all over the place. A bit like what happens these days with tag/stickers.
this is so relevant in the post 2018 elections here in brasil
Discovered this channel today and totally fell in love with your videos!🤍 gotta watch them all ☺️
