I fear there will never be a better tenor than Corelli, because there is no room for any improvement on his work. This is a great example, but, subjectively, it is even more impossible to better his rendition of Celeste Aida.. ..un trono vicino al sol...
What an amazing talent. He makes it look so easy. And so I think "hey, I can do that". And then I try. And then the police comes to pick me up again...
Most people call his greatest year 1964, when he was in his mid 40’s. A tenor like Pavarotti peaked much earlier, but Corelli had a lot of vocal issues to deal with before achieving the status of a very great singer, which he certainly was. But 1971 is late Corelli and he retired just a few years later.
@@ransomcoates546 Yeah, he started singing late, over thirty. But his career as competition swimmer must have given him a headstart regarding lung capacity and breath control. Anyway, he retired when still big, which is more than can be said about others of his generation or later.

One of the most dramtic areas of Bel Canto, performed live with the best voices of the time lending some great passion to a very dramatic dilema ... he's betrayed his country for the woman he loves and is willing to die for it; Amneris puts everything on the line to save him if only Radames were to give up Aida and yet he does not and what's more he's happily willing to die for his crime and for Aida.
