Hell nah, from the very first watch this scene took my breath away and hooked me on the show. One of the most beautiful intros to an anime I've ever seen.
I love how the scenery just randomly changes from one place to another as Tomoya walks to school. It indicates his mindset, that everything passes by in a blur to him as he trudges along and nothing registers.
He is questioning if anything will ever change, possibly expressing a longing for something different or a concern about the current state of affairs. She wants the things to remain as they are, suggesting a desire for stability and continuity. Complementary forces, representing opposing yet interconnected elements. Yin and yang find each other and create a new perspective. Their union often symbolizes balance and harmony. In this context, it implies that the meeting of these two might lead to a fresh way of looking at the situation, potentially leading to a change.
the way the sound track smoothly transitions into Nagisa's theme and the obvious color changes show that this really is the place where a real bond is formed. Nagisa's theme always sounded so motherly and calming, it feels like a place where you can home is being formed as soon as the melody kicks in. This scene has some much packed into it that it is probably the best opening scene to any anime or media I've seen.
This is the pivotal moment of Tomoya's entire life... the fulcrum upon which his entire reality hinges. Which is why it becomes so important in Clannad: After Story, particularly Episode 22. It is beautiful.
I think I understand why it's black and white till Tomoya talked to Nagisa. I think his world was black and white no meaning until he meet her. Then colors came into his world. That's why when she died it came back to this memory piece. Instead of saying something he didn't.
This is the most beautiful scene of all entertainment media combined. And when you finish watching Clannad and then come back here with context, this scene just becomes ICONIC
One of the best scenes in Clannad It really drives home after finishing season 2 "We start to walk up… the long… long… uphill climb." Life is exactly what he says… a long uphill climb, filled with hardships and struggles, but we just need to find fun and happy things to overcome the obstacles in our life without losing ourselves this journey called life
It’s crazy coming back to scene 9 years later since my first watch. At hindsight, it’s a scene with High schoolers and yet what they talk about is relevant to anyone in any age. Even me
I remember uploading this scene on my youtube channel way wayyyy back because I was so mesmerized by it. I remember this scene being so magical to the child me... and it still is years later.
this scene never used to make me cry. but damn. it hit me today. Tomoyo sees the world in drab bland colors, because he is indifferent to everything. he finds no joy in it. He meets Nagisa and she literally brightens his world! and that brilliant Nagisa theme playing the whole time .
*sees someone talking to themself* Tomoya's reaction: "She must be talking to someone in her heart." My reaction:"Either she has a bluetooth or she's Bat**** crazy."
This is peak on a whole other level, Just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Since the first time I started this show to this day I watch this scene whenever I'm upset about how something turned out or just the overall state of things and it inspires me again
Yup that's basically the entire point. It's not that hr didn't want to date the other girls, it was that he couldn't since he was tied to Nagisa almost if by fate
See...this is why i will never have a girlfriend: I would briefly think" what?" without saying anything and then just keep walking thinking my usual edgy things. And that would be the end...
" Fun things .. Happy things ... They all can't possibly stay unchanged , Even so can you keep on loving this place ? " " just find them " ♥️ and see how as brightly as Nagisa's scene , our world will also light up when we are with the right person
@BTIsaac I agree. But, I thought all anime distort some form of reality. In fact, isn't all anime scripts bend some reality that will not likely to happen in real life? If not, what would you recommend to watch?
Also, you shouldn't call other people moetards if you have taken Hanyuu to your house. Unless you are going to brutally maim her. @jussius88 Odd. It's true. Oh well, with that out of the way, I'll be taking that little moe blob home now.
The use of color as a metaphor for depression and the way Nagisa changes his life might be the most brilliant piece of directing I've ever seen
After reading the Vn and seeing this, it hits pretty hard.
you have very good taste my friend.
manplaysgames wow I can’t believe this~
This is when their lives will never be the same again. This is the start of something beautiful and something sad.
Same thing happened in Your Lie in April
On second watch this is the most powerful scene in the entire show
I would argue it was on first watch too
I agree, this scene is so well made, it is perfect indeed.
You are completely right
I felt that the first time I saw it, its amazing
Felt it too. Coz you have an idea of all that's about to happen
'We start to walk up.. the long... long... uphill climb.'
Goddamn, that's some CRAZY foreshadowing...
This is where the story begins.
And indeed it was long.
@@llody7777 and where it ends
Everytime I hear that piano start to twinkle I cry like a little girl... and im a grown man...
Just make sure to only cry in the bathroom or your father's arms
this scene still... gives me chills.
Classic
wow 10 years ago, i hope you see this, you have a good taste in anime. i hope your live is going good my friend
It's the scene that changes everything.
12 years ago DAM
Upon first watch you won’t think much of this scene but once you watch the entire show you’ll realize this is one of the most powerful scenes
So true damn
Hell nah, from the very first watch this scene took my breath away and hooked me on the show. One of the most beautiful intros to an anime I've ever seen.
Man, the soundtrack, the storyboard, colour manipulation, all this is so perfect. It still sends chills down my spine every time I watch it.

Even just meeting each other, you can sense the dynamics of their relationship-to-be. Two minutes that foreshadow so much of a lovely journey.
And that's how the best anime ever begins...
You'll never know how powerful this scene was, the lines, the black and white scene, not until you watched Clannad After Story for more than twice.
This is the pivotal moment of Tomoya's entire life... the fulcrum upon which his entire reality hinges. Which is why it becomes so important in Clannad: After Story, particularly Episode 22. It is beautiful.
When I first started watching this show, I never in a million years expected to come out of it a changed man with tears in my eyes
I think I understand why it's black and white till Tomoya talked to Nagisa. I think his world was black and white no meaning until he meet her. Then colors came into his world. That's why when she died it came back to this memory piece. Instead of saying something he didn't.
Bingo! I know this over 10 years old, but I hope you are well and living!
Just like chitanda and oreki
Thumbs up if you're a guy watching this.
noPE
It is crazy how one scene can summarize the entire series. So perfectly directed.
The allegory is strong with this one.
Everytime I hear that song, I get goosebumps o.O
I love this anime so much omg
This is the most beautiful scene of all entertainment media combined. And when you finish watching Clannad and then come back here with context, this scene just becomes ICONIC
I cannot watch this without hysterically sobbing
The cinematography, the color switch, the animation, the crescendo...I forgot how quality this show was in its time. It portrays emotion very well
chills the second time I watched this
One of the best scenes in Clannad
It really drives home after finishing season 2

After watching the series for the 4th time. I still cry to this.
How could you watch it four times? I am not even strong enough to watch it twice
It’s crazy coming back to scene 9 years later since my first watch.
At hindsight, it’s a scene with High schoolers and yet what they talk about is relevant to anyone in any age. Even me
I think this might be my favorite anime scene of all time.
The beginning of a legendary series, masterfull! ❤️
This scene was some advanced level foreshadowing if I’ve ever seen it
I just love the way Tomoya encourages Nagisa by interrupting one of her lines. Like they met in the perfect place at the perfect time.
This anime can STILL make me cry.
Watching clannad for 2nd time:
0:01 ok i got this
0:37 oh shit idk
1:02 *traumatic flashbacks*
1:24 *critical hit*
In that moment my life changed
I remember uploading this scene on my youtube channel way wayyyy back because I was so mesmerized by it. I remember this scene being so magical to the child me... and it still is years later.
One of the graetest opening scenes i ever watch
I need to come back here every now and then. You know, just to get some feelings
I just started to rewatch this anime and only a minute past and I started to get emotional
this scene never used to make me cry. but damn. it hit me today. Tomoyo sees the world in drab bland colors, because he is indifferent to everything. he finds no joy in it. He meets Nagisa and she literally brightens his world! and that brilliant Nagisa theme playing the whole time .
im crying...
Still one of the best animes i have ever watched ♡ and one of my favorite if not my favorite opening scene ever
This is the most emotional piece of animation in all of anime or media history.
*sees someone talking to themself*
Tomoya's reaction: "She must be talking to someone in her heart."
My reaction:"Either she has a bluetooth or she's Bat**** crazy."
This is peak on a whole other level,
Just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Since the first time I started this show to this day I watch this scene whenever I'm upset about how something turned out or just the overall state of things and it inspires me again
Top 5 anime intro scenes of all time
i dont think without this scene i would love clannad as much as i do just the first line was so relatable for me
.....Damn.
That actually made me tear up....
The flashes of color before Tomoya finally says something is such a symbolic and pretty little detail
They were destined 💖😭😭😭
I can play that music exact same
Just for tears
It didn't happen like this in the VN, the VN was far less powerful and dramatic.
1:25 YES!!!
Yes! My favorite scene!
me at 0:00: dontcrydontcrydontcrydontcry
me at 0:37 **CRITICAL HIT**
1:25: KNOCKOUT
Tomoya chose Nagisa since episode 1 lol
Yes he did. It's beautiful.
Yup that's basically the entire point. It's not that hr didn't want to date the other girls, it was that he couldn't since he was tied to Nagisa almost if by fate
Beautiful.
I cant describe how this sound and this moment make me feel its such a beautiful anime
And here we go.
After finishing afterstory, this scene hits so damn deep
What a rollercoaster ride this was.
Hello There, I'm here in 2020 :)
they actually had seen each other before as you see in the clannad extra after story
When the same music was in the background of nagisa death in after story
so beautiful
thumbs up if you know this is a show targeting guys in the first place.
...
You don't need to thumbs up, just remember that ... would be great.
I'll thumb you up muh bruh
Legendary first scene of Clannad
1:26 ... the most important moment in the entire anime
*tears*
What a Scene
@BTIsaac
I agree. It's exactly why we love it so much. The things we want are always fantasy! :P
Typically on a rewatch, this scene makes me cry like a bitch
See...this is why i will never have a girlfriend: I would briefly think" what?" without saying anything and then just keep walking thinking my usual edgy things. And that would be the end...
And thus, boy met girl
sad ending
I loved the anime and i recommend th vn to every fan also
What’s the name of this song 0:01
It's called "Town, Flow of Time, People".
" Fun things .. Happy things ... They all can't possibly stay unchanged , Even so can you keep on loving this place ? "
" just find them " ♥️ and see how as brightly as Nagisa's scene , our world will also light up when we are with the right person
Si esto no es el anime, el anime donde está?
@BTIsaac I agree.
