- čas přidán 15. 06. 2021
- Jeffrey R. Holland shares an account of one of his friends who got lost as a young man, and teaches that trouble will come, but discouragement doesn't have to. If we work now to prepare ourselves through patient and faithful discipleship, we will get through.
A special thanks to Caleb Hafen who played the young man from Southern Utah. John Nixon played the role of the father.

I had something like this happen to me several years ago. I was flying with my two little girls to my grandma's funeral, with a connecting flight in Salt Lake City. I grew up in a tiny town, I wasn't familiar with flying, and I was responsible to get three people from point A to point C. On the flight to SLC I prayed for help. The thought came to me to sing primary songs out loud to my children. Wouldn't you know it, the couple behind us recognized the songs, and asked if I needed help. I would not have made the connecting flight without them, being that we got into the SLC airport late. Thank goodness for a world wide church, where we have help wherever we go, including from heaven!
amen
A miracle for sure!
I too love President Holland. Years ago I picked him up at the airport in Austin, Texas. He was speaking at the LDS Institute on UT campus. I asked him, "How will I recognize you?" His reply, " I will be carrying my scriptures."
That's a freakin' awesome response. 😁❤️
I love Elder Holland. His very voice soothes me.
There is something about Hollands voice that makes tears roll down my face.
Beautiful,thank you
I got to meet Elder Holland some years ago. And I still remember the feeling I felt when I shook his hand. It was like peace was brought to the Earth by the lord and it surrounded him and myself and I knew then like I always knew he was an Apostle of the Lord. All the wickedness could not be felt for that brief moment and I only felt that feeling in three places, one was meeting Elder Holland, the second one was in the Denver, Colorado Temple in the Baptism of the Dead font when I was doing the work of the lord for those people who didn't get the chance and the third was when I was called as the Teacher Quorum President. I know that this church is true, and while I'm still in my youth the things that I've learned and taught have blessed my life, and other peoples lives because Heavenly Father takes care of us, he does not lead us astray but with us he tries to keep us on the Covenant path to righteousness.
Thanks for sharing that. I too have meet him a few times while serving a service mission. When you talk to him face-to-face you know he loves the Lord and you feel that love.
Thank You for this message Elder Holland, I LOVE YOU!
My sister had the privilege of meeting with Elder Holland.she called him her gentle humble giant.
this he truly is.❤
He is. I was working on a mission assignment and a mission president asked me, "Have you got a picture of you and Elder Holland together?" I told him I didn't want to bother him and it felt inappropriate to ask.
The mission president told me that he would do that asking and take a picture with my camera.
So, he went over and pointed to me as he was talking to Elder Holland. Elder Holland nodded 'yes', smiled, and waved for me to come over. He put his arm around me while the mission president took our picture together.
I told Elder Holland, "Thank you, and I also want to thank you for your talk 'Like a Broken Vessel'.
Tears came to his eyes, he grabbed my hand with both of his and said, "Thank you so much for that feedback. It really means a lot to me."
I will never forget that day.
Truly inspiring. We are never left alone by the Lord.
For the pas months, I would find myself hurting and wanting to cry but I couldn't. But this was shown on our Institute class and tears began to roll. I felt a lot better after that.
caused me to reflect when I was 18. I wished I would have had a # to call a Bishop when walking the streets of downtown Frankfurt, Germany at 3am. I was being looked out for but didn't know it until 3 months later. It was my Savior. He led me to the Church.
When elder Holland was serving as Area President in Chile, I got the chance to see him several times. I was in my youth when he spoke in my stake and he asked the youth, "Do you know the song "Everything I do, I do it for you" by Bryan Adams? and everybody said, "yes." Then, he said to us, "I dedicate that song to you." "Everything we do (the prophet, the apostles), we do it for you", he said. Never forgotten that.
That is touching. We love Elder Holland!
Being 70+ Years, I Could Truly Understand This Young Man's Fears Arriving In Such A Strange Big City Like Chicago, IL.-Although Much Older Now, I Still Feel This Way Whenever I Visit An Unknown Place.--Heavenly Father Has Always Provided Me With Peace And Comfort To Ease My Mind...!!
Elder Holland always gives the best talks! I love him so much! I love the pioneer song added, Come come ye Saints…blessed day, all is well!
I have no idea who decided to post this right now, but thank you. This was a perfectly timed answer to prayer
Isn't that wonderful! I don't believe in coincidences. Sounds like this was an expression of Heavenly Father's love for you. And, just reading your short comment brought a smile to my face because Heavenly Father loves all his children and knows just how to sooth us when we need it.
Thank you for sharing that. It really made my day.
So beautiful!
Timely!
Beautiful talk crying because Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ answer prayers Amen
Love this❤️
What a good story! All is well!
Thank you Elder Holland. So much.
I know the Lord prepares a way for us. One time I had to hide myself to save my own life. God had prepared a way for me. I know that God knows the past, the present and the future.
Elder Holland is one of the greatest orators of the 20th & 21st centuries. I do love to hear his messages.
In some way or another some of us experienced the same way the only comfort that is available and in reach is to”PRAY” and the the Holy Ghost take the lead🙏🏻
Wow. Thank you Elder Holland. This message brought tears to my eyes as I was reminded of my hard life moments where I shrunk in fear not knowing what to do. Thank you for reminding me that the principles of faith and hope will carry me through and past my fears and on to safety.
Such a lovely story it is wonderful we can turn to Latter Day Saints for help
🧡 Thank you from the bottom of my anxiety ridden heart. What a perfect reminder. I’ve heard this talk before, loved it, studied it, even took excerpts as a quote. Sometimes we forget, just who is on our side, loving us, and even protecting us.
As someone who understands anxiety as well, I wanted to tell you that choline is effective... A dose of 2,000 mg five times a day is best. It works in 20 minutes (is good to take away from medications about a half hour).
Very moving. More than remembering all my hard times, I think about all the times I am (or should be) in the path to help someone else. Thank you for the reminder.
I look back at a hillbilly girl headed for her mission some 40+ years ago headed for the O'Hare airport and I can now see how indeed God moves in mysterious ways his wonders to perform.
That goes to show you that many the anxieties experienced by the youth is nothing new.
Listening to this, far from home, needing the comfort of knowing God hears and answers prayers. Thank you, Elder Holland.
Great story
Beautiful!!
Okay this brought tears to my eyes.
What a lovely story. Thank you Elder Holland!
This story reminds me of all the times Heavenly Father has delivered me from my trials. No matter how big or small. It also reminds me of the love of the Saints around the world. I've been in foreign countries where member families have helped me feel welcomed and the knowledge that I new someone close by I could call if I got stuck or had troubles.
What a beautiful story. Thank you.
All is well, all is well
Needed this today. God bless you Elder Holland. Praying for you that Pat is near, even though she's returned to the spirit world.
One of my favorite short video from BYU speeches.
Thank You, Elder Holland for this sweet story. The message is loud and clear! He'll always stand by me and everyone else. Though our journey may seem long and challenging. Thanks again.

Caleb Hafen, you did an amazing job!
Thank you all that made this story possible for us. Even the camera crew and Elder Holland for sharing this with us all. For sure touched my heart and reminded me I'm not alone in this world. Especially if I feel lonely or doubt and discourage starts to creep in oh, this is a clear signal for me to kneel and pray! The Savior said I will go before you and make a way so you can accomplish my work. So true. Thank you Elder Holland for your service and your leadership in this church and our God!
Thank you Elder Holland I needed this reminder Been struggling a lot lately with anxiety and it’s really hard some days I feel like I can’t do anything. But this reminded that I don’t have to do things and be alone in my life witch gives me peace and comfort knowing this. I just need that someone to show up in my life and be there for me.
😊
Awesome! Hymns cover any age group, any language, any people. The saints from 2-100 will hear and recognize.
Remember in times of emergency, no matter where you are…….sing, even
a primary song. I am a Child of God. Sing and if there are any there from the LDS church and others of good faith, they will find you.
Awesome talk. Don’t we all feel like that sometimes? But God has our back.
And He goes before us and is on our left & on our right. 💞
Somehow we all seem to relate to being alone and wondering where to turn. I love this needed message of hope!
Holland I am so grateful to find you this morning
A signpost for the journey.

There is nothing more beautiful than the peace, hope, and love that comes from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Amen!
I'm grateful for this message. I needed it right now.
Elder Holland in 1989 I had decided to leave my abusive husband at the time we were living in Iran because he was Persian. And abuse me for the very last time I 8 months pregnant.each mth.I received Ensign from utah. This particular one had a article in it about a man who helped destitute LDS people get out of countries.I wrote him a letter after 1 mth I received a answer saying he would help me.I had to get visas for my children and I without my husband . I received a phone call from the airline doctor saying I needed a letter in order to travel because I was so far along in my pregnancy I went to the airline I spoke with the doctor he asked me to wait outside without smiling or being kind crying fighting back the tears Lord please help me I need to get out of here I suddenly noticed a man standing mixer I looked up and it was my neighbor I had no idea who work for the airlines he asked me why I was crying I told him why he suddenly walks away he went into the doctor's office came back in about 15 minutes he handed me an envelope what is this this is your letter from the doctor can you can leave I cried a new my heavenly father my prayers and I wasn't alone
Wow!!
Wonderful
I noticed an easy way to do this is if you see someone in church that you don’t know go up to them and introduce yourself
I lived alone since I was 15 to me this is hard to understand.
I don't know but is this an autobiographical story of himself? Just wondering.
It would be interesting to understand if this really happened or if the story was embellished in any way in order to promote faith.
And, what if it was just a parable? Would that change the message in anyway?
Let's keep in mind he's telling a story relayed to him. Also, I think sometimes we forget the Savior taught in parables. Those stories may or may not have happened, or may not have happened that way. It's the message that's important.
Dude gets lost, freaks out, coincidentally finds his group. Whoa 🤯
I like the message but next time take a plane.
True
Thank you.
