I thought the choking at the end of EoE was to show they were two separate bodies, just as they wanted, but in their separate selves, they lose the understanding, and gain the ability to hurt one another, that instrumentality sought to fix. Bringing back Shinji's Hedgehog Dilemma, as the one person he wishes to be close to, he can't help but hurting. That was just my interpretation though.

Same here, but after a total existential mindf**k like that Shinji's test of being back to reality was to give Asuka a nice well deserved choke for all of her mistreatment of him and her mouth. And her gentle touch to his face was basically her way to say "aren't you supposed to just pinch yourself to see if you're still dreaming" baka Shinki? And in the few microseconds after he released his grip, she started thinking about it.
After Asuka thought how she and Shinji were basically one and the same person, all she could do is utter the only way she felt about not being her awesome freaking badass self. And that was "disgusting" with a shiver through her body and spine that eventually became relief when she was glad to be back in her own body as herself and not part of everyone as one, especially that clingy Shinji.
Gott en Himmel, even as a facet of everyone that boy was still sniveling after her, Rei, and Misato. You'd think becoming One in Instrumentality would homogenize everyone to be unrecognizable eventually into one consciousness. But not with Shinji at the controls. Dude was even more intense now that those three were noncorporeal. Thank goodness he brought everything back to reality and even f**ked that up by not doing a full restoration but just enough to leave the reminder of a giant Rei head looking at the sky until she deteriorates and decomposes, maybe.
Who's going to do all the cleaning up? Can new Eva units be made from the crucified carcasses of the production models hanging around? Will the oceans ever become blue again or is it Rei's blood now? Can Rei be cloned again or is there another two or three Rei clones roaming around? All this and more will never be answered unless there's a Evangelion one shot 7.0 - 2.0 He will (not) succeed.

I was born on May 4th, 1997. My mother had me out of rape, and she never really was able to cope with being a new parent. My father was never known to me. From the time of when I was a baby, I grew up without them both in my life, the only person who raised me was my grandmother, and she did her damn best to give me a semblance of a normal life. Yet, I never made friends, or rather I don't have that many, I'm unsure of myself both in future endeavors, self-worth, and love and the like, and I really don't think I matter in the micro and macro scale.
Yet I watched this video and it... i feel like I got "Some" closure for things that I'm going through, or I've gone through in the past. Just, thank you. Sorry that this comment is rough, but I just wanted to get that off my chest.
Life gets better. Even if it starts out poor, just hold on. The best sense of purpose is the one you find in yourself, and that just takes time. People come and go, appreciate the time you have with them, and never forget to love yourself, in the beginning, and the end, its all you have, so love it the most. Oh, and lastly, (as I'm adding this after the fact) failure is the mark of progress, you made an attempt, even if it didn't succeed it doesn't mean you won't ever!

All I can say is that End of Eva makes me cry every single time I watch it. And I don't cry to movies really. I don't really cry in general. But End of Eva always brings tears down my cheek. And the funny part, Its more of a beautiful cry. Like watching a majestic animal pass away. You know its sad, but deep down you feel that what you are witnessing holds a great truth to the world and life we live.

bro, this is well written, my feelings about this anime are the same. It's almost as if the anime itself somehow forces you to watch it again and take some extra points from it depending on what state of mind you're in at the moment.
I think it stimulates us to carry on out of curiosity, I don't have any strenght left in me yet I can't bring myself to end it all because of the thought of what I could've been if life and people were a bit kinder to me. I know I'm worth it, I do love myself but those things alone don't make a life worth living (or suffering) through, yet I still wait...

Perfect timing! I scored a ticket to one of the few theater showings of End of Evangelion in my area for tomorrow, I’ve never been so excited to see a movie I’ve seen countless times on the big screen! Haha

I interpret the ending of EOE as Shinji choking Asuka to make sure hes back in the real world again, and Asuka caressing Shinjis cheek not out of affection but to make sure thats actually Shinji, from the real world, theyre making sure theyre out of instrunentality. I interpret Shinjis crying as everything that happened crashing down on him all at once, as Asuka exclaims "disgusting" from how weak Shinji is being
