I also find it weird that the harder an accent with consonants (like German or Serbian) the easier it is for Russians to understand.

You see, all the languages belong to a certain category: ex. English & Spanish -1, German -2, Indonesia and Malasya in 3rd, Russia and if im not mistaken Arabic belongs to category 4, and 5th goes to Chinese and Japanese.
Russian language has 6 different cases and German has 4. Its pretty easy to convert from a more difficult language to a less difficult one. Telling ya that as a Russian myself who can speak both English and German :P
