• MARO - “saudade, sauda...
"Saudade" is when we remember those special days that leave a smile on our face. "Saudade" it's when we remember our father's hug after we won the first race of our lives.
"Saudade" it's when we miss our mother's hug and her kiss, and we smile thinking about her.
Saudade it's when a scent of pine and candys reminds us of a Christmas dinner on the mountain, where everyone was still present and we laughed and sing together.
"Saudade" is when we look at the sea and remember the afternoon we met in the beach, but fate didn't allow us to stay together forever.
"Saudade" is when we want to go back to that place where we were happy.
"Saudade" it's a discontented contentment.
❤ from Portugal
Nothing more than I can say says it in a better way!
This song was dedicated to her grandfather that died last year. Saudade doesn't have any direct translation to english, that's why she can't say what's she's feeling 'in a better way'. The 'lotto' numbers was the number people called to vote for her to go to Eurovision 2022 to represent Portugal. Spoiler: she won!
Very nice. Great voices. Very enjoyable, you could definitely say play that again, without any fear of contradiction. ❤️🎸🤘🇦🇺
:) Obrigado (its not thanks you... For that we have Agradecido... obrigado stands for "Im obligated to you to something")
Saudade is like a feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia that is characteristic of the Portuguese.
Also, this song is for Maro's grandfather who sadly passed away and she is singing for him, asking him for signs and saying she feels saudades for him.
THIS! I really want Portugal to go to the finals on ESC
Saudade não se traduz em longing.... não percebo porque toda a gente de repente começou a traduzir assim...
@@gordjy é um sentimento tão forte que não se pode traduzir apenas por "missing something/someone" é muito mais que isso
nós sabemos que saudade não tem tradução, mas para o resto do mundo entender serve bem o que o Ricardo disse.
@@gordjy É a tradução mais próxima que a língua inglesa tem para "saudade". Para fins práticos de compreensão, há de servir.
Saudade is big as a country! If you ask a portuguese to find a word to define the portuguese people, well that is the word that they will choose. Now... the meaning and translation of the word is long debated, and is used in Portugal a lot when they "miss something or someone", which is the case of Maro on this song. The song is about the loss of her best friend and grandmother, but Saudade takes "missing something" to another level (of soul digging) when you are overseas (which is also the case of Maro)... that's where I believe the "Saudade" feeling is really a very portuguese thing. Probably comes from Luis the Camões and the portuguese conquistadores and the portuguese curse of having always someone overseas
Now, being a portuguese that really knows how Saudade feels like, I would say that Maro captured the Saudade feeling completely in its essence, and seeing several youtubers reacting to her song crying with goosebumps makes me think that they have just experimented Saudade. It's like someone captured Saudade Goosebumps in a bottle.
Simplicity without tricks !!
Serenity and peace in this world !!
She's going to represent Portugal in Eurovision 2022 ❤
From Wikipedia
Saudade is a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for something or someone that one cares for and/or loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again. It is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places, or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, and well-being, which now trigger the senses and make one experience the pain of separation from those joyous sensations. Saudade describes a feeling both happy and sad, and could be approximated by the English expression ‘bitter sweet’.
We are the ONLY country in the world which have the word Saudade... Not miss you because for that we have "senti a tua falta"... Saudade its another level;)
Really beautiful. Could easily listen to her again 🎵🎶👌🏻🤘🏻
Saudade is a Portuguese word with no literal translation in other languages. We can “saudade” a person who was far away, “saudade” vacations, “saudade” being with friends, “saudade” food we like, “saudade” a person who died, “saudade” a beautiful city where we were, etc etc.
Cute reaction to an almost transcendent song.
saudade is the feeling you get, when you come to visit portugal...and then go back home. You get Saudades

Amazing and magic song from PORTUGAL.

Maro is one singer
(Saudade)
It was taught to us Portuguese people since young age that a lot of people died several centuries ago, specially young people and kids, across Europe of course, not only in Portugal, because wars, hunger, illnesses, people had to deal with constant loss and pain... But when you bury the body you keep the memory alive like the graves where the bodies rest... But when the constant traveling across the sea of portuguese sailors, fathers and sons for months and years, that takes the certainty of where our loved ones are or if they are alive or dead... Not knowing the day those sailors and soldiers would come back to their families, if there was a come back, it took away that certainty from a lot of mothers and wives, grand parents, friends, children, including the memory, the finality and at the end their meaning of life... And that anguish and dispair that could crumble an entire people in pain until extinction, in the case of Portuguese people it changed into a bearable feeling... The sweet and addicted feeling of hope dressed in an eternal sadness: Saudade... And that turned out as a portuguese people identity and cultural expression, specially in the case of Fado music. Of course nowadays the term Saudade lost that primal meaning because times changed... But portuguese people did refuse to let the word die, even though it changed into something more trivial, it kept the deepness, because like I said it turned out as a people cultural identity.
This is sublime, this song deserves to win!
Saudade Saudade, canção para ganhar com amor e carinho! ❤️❤️
Unique, brilliant and fantastic song. 💓👏🙌🙏
Saudade is not only sadness, it is also joy at the same time. Just as you feel sadness for the absence, you feel nostalgia, but at the same time you feel joy, for the good moments spent and for the feelings experienced. It is a mixture of feelings that is difficult to explain, that is why in Portuguese there is the word "Saudade". Because she sums up in one word, that mixture of feelings. This song is about the loss of someone (her grandfather), but it's not only sad... it's like a celebration of what was lived too... Not always you feel Saudade with tears in your eyes. You may feel Saudade with a smile in your face...👌🏻🇵🇹
Someone asked me to define "saudade" ... I "smile crying" ...”
Love from Portugal 🇵🇹💖👋👍
❤ Maro takes us in a beautiful and unbelievable way to the comfort that happy memories are. Saudade transcends the history of each one of us and elevates us to collective memory. Saudadeof peace. Saudade of joy.
The anthem of peace 2022.❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🌍🌍🌍🌍.12 Points for Portugal.
You don't want to hear any other song from eurovision 2022 when you want to remember someone who is gone, you want to hear SAUDADE, by MARO. Obrigado MARO
A pureza desta música, misturada com a simplicidade da interprete, coloca-nos em estado de meditação...Agradecido Maro..
Thank you so much . That is the point, the world needs peace and this nostalgic song is definitely a peace appealing song, very simple, very honest, very humble. It talks about feelings, about the sadness and emptiness that Maro is feeling about losing her best friend, her grandfather. No fireworks, no frantic dances, just herself, the audience, her grandfather and emotions. Very portuguese but universal at the same time.
Thank you so much.
Greetings from Portugal.
Very beautiful song!! 💜💜💜
Português é a língua mais linda do mundo 💪❤️🇵🇹
Sem dúvida! Once Tuga, sempre tuga! E só nós é que podemos dizer mal de nós! Abraço
As you know, this is Portugal's representative in this year's Eurovision Contest, and it was chosen via a national song contest called Festival da Canção. The numbers that Ginger mentioned are not lottery numbers... That's the song's number (number 9) and the phone number to call to cast a vote for this song. 😉
Nothing compares to Maro and her friends. Great entry from Portugal with Saudade, Saudade
Pure art and magic ❤️
Right to the Heart!
(…and since we mentioned Saudade…)
Saudade is not a sad word.
Saudade is the embrace of the past
to the pain of the present.
Saudade is reunion.
Saudade is the prove that happiness exists.
Saudade is gratitude.
Saudade is the escape that saves us from ourselves.
Saudade is cuddleness.
Saudade is the kiss that wakes us up and gives us back to ourselves.
Saudade is tenderness.
Saudade is a tear that tastes like sugar.
Saudade is flavor.
Saudade is a flame that burns without ignating.
Saudade is the light.
Saudade is a space that fits our soul.
Saudade is home.
Saudade is a companion who follows us closely.
Saudade is the way.
Saudade is doubt without the shadow of fear.
Saudade is the truth.
Saudade is rain melting sunshine.
Saudade is a rainbow.
Saudade is a cold breeze that shakes your absences.
Saudade is memory.
Saudade is the everyday’s bread we knead.
Saudade is food.
Saudade is a land to which we never return.
Saudade is heart.
Saudade is the sea that always goes and returns.
Saudade is hope.
Saudade is faith that we do not depart.
Saudade is a prayer.
Saudade is the excuse that the soul gives to time.
Saudade is eternity.
Saudade is the matter from which redemption is made.
Saudade is Love.
(Teresa Teixeira)
Her grandfather had recently passed away. Saudade is a word that only exists in portuguese. It means missing somebody or something in a nostalgic way.
too good for Eurovision. Maro (Mariana Secca) is the artistic name of the singer who invited a few friends for the backup vocals. Studied in Boston and started her musical career in L.A.
About 'saudade' it looks like there is no translation in any other language. Some say it's origin is from the arab 'saudah', others defend it's from the latin 'sólitas', which means loneliness. The true is that it's meaning is far beyond the concept of 'missing someone or something and, in my view, it is directly related to the Portuguese Discoveries when the sailors were leaving the world as it was know at the time, travelling to the unknown.
Saudade = feeling of longing, melancholy, missing someone...
Saudade can be a sad word (when expresses missing someone or something we will never see again) but also can be a joyful word when related to someone or something I know I will see or express again and I just can't wait for it. Something like that. It is really difficult to put in English.
Straight to our hearts... smoothly 🌈❤ !!
If I may suggest you, search for other songs by Maro like "O que será de ti" from 2019... pure delight ❤❤!!
Love from 🇵🇹!! 😘😘
For me this one of the best away to say what Saudade is, this person Knows what is talking about credits to him :
BugaBean
my 5 cents on trying to explain what "saudade" is:
1) saudade is always a positive feeling toward moments/someone/something: there is no saudade of something you didn't liked; this is an important point
2) saudade is the recollection of enjoyable moments you experienced with someone/something/somewhere in the past that are now absent from you and in some manner you miss
3) it is usually accompanied with longing: you yearn those moments again, but longing is not saudade (see point 2)
4) it can be accompanied with the feeling of missing someone/something, but missing someone is not saudade (see point 2)
5) it can be accompanied with nostalgia; but nostalgia is not saudade (see point 2)
6) it can be accompanied with sadness dependent on the reason of the absence. sadness is not saudade (see point 2) and it is less probable than points 3) 4) and 5)
7) in can be accompanied with gratitude to have lived those moments, but gratitude is not saudade (see point 2)
8) it has a medium intensity by default. to express intense saudades you can say for instance (direct translation) "i have so many saudades of ..."
9) saudade has not a broad range of meanings: it is a very specific feeling. when someone says (direct translation) "i have saudades of something" he does not need to say anything more for you to know exactly what he is talking about
10) portuguese speakers use a lot the word saudade in the everyday discourse: that shows the prevalence of this feeling in humans
It is a human feeling alright. But portuguese culture really values it hence it turned this feeling into a noun.

SAUDADE is a really strong way of feeling. Is missing hard someone or something. SAUDADE IS A UNIQUE WAY OF MISSING.
Thanks your reaction, you so beatifiul, kisses from Portugal
❤🇵🇹👏Welcome to Portugal
.In a time of war when Europe and the world suffer negative consequences, especially in Europe, due to the residential/cultural destruction and the massacre that is happening in Ukraine, this Portuguese song ("SAUDADE, SAUDADE" so well performed by Maro and her colleagues) appears as an embrace of love, warmth, solidarity, union, inner joy and peace... through this beautiful music, warm, meditative, deep, healing and full of harmony and subjective hope within a mystical freedom of shared concrete peace!!... Thank you for the beautiful reaction!! Amazing song Portugal 💜☮️ beautiful, quality!! Ah... "SAUDADE" in addition to meaning a melancholy feeling due to death (here remembering the good times spent together) or inner joy; or the simple removal of a person, a thing or a place, or the absence of pleasurable experiences already lived is, at the same time, a sincere and deep desire for all this!... For a warm hug, to be loved, to a joyful, unique, harmonious and peaceful space. That's why you can also send a lot of SAUDADES ("MISS") to a girlfriend/boyfriend, family or friends!....🥰😘🤩😍🥳💖❤️

Esta música ..entra no coração ❤️
Hy Mike and Ginger, thanks so much for your reaction. It's a very hipnotic, magical and emotional song! Saudade does not have a translation to any language, its an unique word kinda feeling of missing something or someone, a feeling of nolstalgia. So the song, and the word saudade is to remember her grandfather, who recently died. And Maro is the singer and songwriter of this MASTERPIECE and she's the one in the middle. The others are her friends and are the backing vocals. Big hug from beautiful Lisboa... 🤗
Não fazes mais nada tu?
Beautiful magical emotional song, bravo Portugal,. Greetings from Spain
What a cool reaction
Thanks! 😘 - G
What about Joni Mitchell in her lower keys? Another brilliant Canadian...
The song almost souns as a Pat Matheny intro and Mitchell starting very low.
Muito obrigada! Thank you 🙂
Portugal delivering ART. Again.
That's the song Portugal is taking to Eurovision this year
I legit LOLed at the lottery number comment! She was song 09. The numbers (760...) were the phone number to call to vote 😂
Saudade,”missing someone,place,home”.muito Obrigada.🙏🏽❤
Lyrics:
I’ve tried to write
A million other songs but
Somehow I can’t move on, oh you’re gone
Takes time, alright
And I know it’s no one’s fault but
Somehow I can’t move on, oh you’re gone
Saudade = 'Longing'
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Tem tanto que trago comigo = There's so much (of him/her) left in me
Foi sempre o meu porto de abrigo = (he/she) was always my safe place
E agora nada faz sentido = And now nothing makes sense
Perdi o meu melhor amigo = I lost my bestfriend
E se não for demais = And if its not too much
Peço por sinais = I ask for a sign
Resta uma só palavra = There's only one word left
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
I’ve tried, alright
But it’s killing me inside
Thought you’d be by my side always
Maro is her artistic name.. Her name is Mariana. The girls are a back vocal band of girls. I think that they are from Galiza, sawing the video that Maro released. The clapping has flamenco vibes too. The song isn't Fado, but a mixture of different sounds from world music with modern production. Maro has videos with different artists including Eric Clapton. They sing together "Tears in Heaven ", in a very touching way.
By the way, the backvocals girls band are seven, but only 4 have been chosen. I'll place all the names that Maro mentioned on the video rehearsals:
Eva Fernández
Judith Neddermann
Magali Datzira
Magali Sare
Rita Payés
Selma Bruna
Silvia Pérez Cruz
@@migueldias17 Well, their name are in the video " Live on Avinyó". They are 7, but only 4 are chosen, I don't know which ones. Their names are:

@@migueldias17 Well, I can't find the one that they're walking to the rehearsal and talking, but from the comments I noticed that they are a well known backvocals band from Cataluña. Answering to your question... not my fault. Maro is Portuguese, I think that this Iberic collab just on the back vocals doesn't change anything. Just my opinion
@@migueldias17 just see the video and read her names that are mentioned on the video box... just simple as that. And by the way read the comments. You have a Portuguese name, so, you'll understand them. No more replies.

Imagine if you would understand all the words! It has amazing lyrics. You should go find what it means and understand the greater side of this song.

Saudade is missing something we never had like we had our entire lives or something we had but will never have again although it feels like it's still with us
You have to ear the "Live in Avìnyo" version. Even better!
Saudade as no translation ...Saudade is a mix of feelings that only portuguese can feel .......its about sadness, melancolie and miss something, its from our History with 8 centuries ..its like a fog in the montains and in de sea.
Saudade hasn't any kind of translation to other languages. It is a specific word/meaning from Portugal and the Portuguese/Portuguese speakers. It relates to the time of Discoveries when the sailors sailed from Portugal, leaving their families behind, and the feeling the mothers, sons, and wives had was more than a miss you. It was "Saudade," a strong emotion, coming from our most profound feelings when we lose someone when we don't see someone for a long, long time, more substantial than an "I miss so much"!
"SAUDADE" - Everyone has, but only the Portuguese has a specific word for it. It is one of the Portuguese words that there isn't any kind of translation to other languages.
SAUDADE is... SAUDADE!
Saudade is a point where you have been, and there was nothing it, then you went back where you have been, and you will remember where you have been, you have been in the top.

WOW - Powerful song... beautiful. Especially for those who knows the meaning of Saudade (word with out direct translation in any other language)
"Saudade" is a mixture of feelings, its meaning is too broad, too deep, too complex to translate.

Olá!! This is not fado. It's a kind of contemporary simple song with some afro beats. Portuguese music is filled with mixes from all over. African, Arabic, Indian... React to Ana Moura feat Conan Osiris live and allamedah with the song "Algema". Byyyye!
There is no transalation for saudade, but its about loosing someone we love and still remember allways..
Maro is a nickname for Mariana.
Saudade does not directly translate to english as there is no word in English for the feeling of missing someone, longing for something or just "i miss you", it's just... saudade
