34:40 I love this version of the super Mario bros theme. I wish someone could use this theme for an MSU 1 hack of super Mario all stars. It's like the Mario version of that sonic the hedgehog video game commercial. The one with some singing babes.
Mario 3 came out in Japan on October 23, 1988. Assuming they didn't have special early access, those guys cranked out a whole cover album from zero to fully produced in 2 months
Everything Nintendo did was meticulously planned. Of course they had early access. To the game, no, but to the score in some capacity, yes. Maybe sheet music, maybe MIDI files, maybe even a few jam sessions with Koji Kondo himself.
Imagine it's 1988 and you're a kid walking into a game store with your parents to buy your copy of SMB3 and this is playing as the store background music. In that very moment, life is good.
In Jazz circles that's called the "Basie lick" or the "Basie ending". It's how Count Basie always used to end a tune. Once it's been pointed out you hear it everywhere.
Be happy that you have discovered it. This came out when I was 5, but I appreciate that I hear it now, because it's always nice to find a treat now and then, instead of everything at the same time.
CZcams algorithm: "I'm just gonna show everyone this 6yo video at the same time for no reason". This is actually amazing for 1988, I would have absolutely loved to have this album as a kid in the early 90's, too bad I only just heard of it right now.
Five year old me would’ve been waving finger paint covered hands in the air if my kindergarten teacher busted out a $3000 compact disc player and popped this sucker in.
This music instantly improved my mood and cleared my mind of my recent troubles... and the fact it was produced the same year I was born and the day and month of the video upload matching the exact date of my birthday just made it extra special
I always thought fancy renditions of video game soundtracks was a new thing, but here we have an example of not only it showing up in the 80s, but supported by Nintendo!
I found this soundtrack originally on Galbadia Hotel a LOOOOONG time ago. I miss that site, some of the works hosted there disappeared forever with it after it closed down.
Holy shit yes. I just stumbled upon this video and rememberd how i had to hunt down OSTs like this on obscure sites. Good times when i discovered this gem❤
I been listening to this wonderful album ever since I found it looking through the history of old vgm bands when I came across this, so it's amazing to see the CZcams algorithm finally putting this into the spotlight for bit more people to listen too. Also let it be known this isn't the only album with fully arranged vgm classic goodness. So look into it if you haven't it's so worth it.
@@Bluegoo S.S.T. Band: This was Sega's official in-house band, holding some great rock versions and rearranging music from Sega's arcade games during that time. They even had some original tracks that weren't from any games but were just as amazing in quality. I consider this the best place to hear original composers overall vision with their tracks, as some of the band members in S.S.T. Band worked and created those tunes for Sega's arcade market. Rockman X ALPH-LYLA with TOSHIAKI OHTSUBO: If you wanted to hear what the Megaman X OST sounds like if they went in a more jazz direction instead of rock, well this is what you get. A amazing album just because of that groove and the sax alone. Toy Music: Dancing Super Mario Brothers: Fully remixed classics from the Famicom Disk System's, Super Mario Brothers to Mystery of Murasame Castle, it has a bit of everything. This whole album is just great to listen to, with some underrated Nintendo tunes that cover the Famicom's legacy pretty well. Zuntata: This is Tatio's house band that created and remixed some great tunes throughout their arcade games. They have quite a unique style with their mix of synth-pop with an otherworldly twist, making this group stand out. This band still exists today, creating OSTs for other games, and man they deserve more love. Kukeiha Club: Konami's in-house band with music from Konami's video game titles, some more known than others, but no matter what, you know you're getting some jazz-fusion goodness. This isn't all of them I know, but a good amount and some of the best I suggest for finding more of these bands and albums.

This is fantastic, AEC did amazing work on this album. Thank you so much for uploading. Nintendo should do a remaster/rerelease of SMB3 and use this excellent album for the soundtrack.
Mario 3 still has my favorite arrangements of any other Mario game to date. It doesn't have my all-time favorite track (ire, Dire Docks), but 3's music just fit the platforming best to me.
Imagine if Nintendo released a Famicom CD (Not the disk drive, but proper Compact Disks), the same way NEC did on 1988. And they somehow combined the superb gameplay of SMB3 with these bangers as soundtrack.
on the surface it may seem like it's "YMOesk" but this uses much more common keyboard synthesizer sounds that defiantly would not have been used by YMO back in their day; YMO's electric sound work was much more grounded than this often using their own custom computer generated sounds one by one to create their music than simply using an off the shelf keyboard like Akibara Electric Circus is here. This sounds good and fun, but I'd never compare this to the unique ground breaking digital sound work that YMO was famous for.
I remember hearing these song years ago and thought it was cool cuz the original uploads of each track had like 1k views and I thought I found a CZcams gem

I would assume they _did_ have access to the music prior to the game coming out since this was a sanctioned release

It released in 1990 in my area (USA), but yes!
Even better.
It's Xmas and you finally get the console only to realize you have to buy a separate cord and everything is closed

*Yes!* I don't know much City Pop, but certain parts remind me of early PSY•S (Masaya Matsuura's band before he created _PaRappa)._ 🎶
reminds me a bit of the original Dragon Ball intro song
