I hope there will be more new aluminium Ebiikes with Pinion, and regular motors soon. I'm not a fan of carbon.
Nice Sam. Can`t wait for your oPinion on this
Hahahaha thanks 🙏
🙂 nice I like it
An entire video just to whet our appetite. Let's hope we get an honest and unbiased opinion from you even though you may feel obligated to Rotwild for lending you the bike for a few days.
Looking forward to your review. Currently have the RX750 Ultra which is a great trail bike. Will definitely go for a test ride when my dealer has a demo bike in stock. Living in Germany 🇩🇪
Will Rotwild do a belt version of this bike? Hate chains….
is the 1000Wh battery needed due to poor efficiency, or could we be seeing lighter weight bikes with smaller battery sizes?
How does the chain compare to belt in ride feel and how much would the weight difference be?
How much is the weight difference between 9 and 12 speed gearbox?
All these questions, Sam! I am looking forward to your answers 🙂 Very interesting 🇦🇺😎
Thank you! 😃 review coming soon
I like the concept of the pionion motor. But really the main selling argument is less maintenance and wear on the drivetrain. So why the heck did they put a metal chain on this rotwild? Go for the belt drive and then this motor really shines.
I totally agree with this. I’m mostly in this for the maintenance benefit of the belt
a BMX chain (singlespeed) is supposed to be used with that transmission and is much more reliable than 12 speed chains... a belt is even more durable (30k km) but I think that Rotwild used a chain because of the compatibility of the frame with a belt tensioner.
Carbon gates belt drives need a chainstay that opens in order to fit as in the case of the Simplon and bull's bikes who are also going with the MGU, the Rotwild doesn't so a chain that splits is used instead
Looking forward to your honest opinion 👍
How does it feel pedalling if the motor is off? Is it more difficult to pedal than something like the Orbea Rise with the motor off (or out of power)?
Why I should pedal a full power emtb with a 960wh battery with motor turned off? Obviously to deplete a battery such that you have to ride the bike a lot but is a situation very difficult to happen... I have a 625 bosch cx battery and I never ran out of juice.
I ride with the motor off at night when I want to surprise someone!!! 😮
Very interested in your follow up review. A few questions: how is the gearing of the bike when you ride it on the normal road, is it easy to stay between 20km/h and 25km/h and how does it resist if you want to go above 25 km/h on a normal road ? How easy is it to remove the rear wheel ? How does the power compare to a bosch unit ?
With the motor off do you get drag or does the clutch disconnects the motor completely?
If motor gets switched off due to inadequate battery power, is the system intelligently reserve enough power to allow you to still change gears even though lacking pedal assist?
What a tease 😂 Get on with it!
1000w battery is definitely enough, I’m running the norco sight c2 with 900w battery with ep8 and the range is just unbelievable.
Hahaha 😝 sorry mate had to do that!
2 questions.
I see they have gone for chain over belt type, what was their reason for that?
Is this an ABS spec’d bike?
❤❤❤
The Rotwild bike definetly looks great. I think they should really go with belt drive tech. Motorcycles made the switch from chain to belt there stronger and less maintence.
How well sealed is the mgu? Would it handle full submersion?
Now I just need this with 180mm 🙏 thank you.
Hey Sam, my question is: if you drain the battery till there is no more power output to the cranks will the system keep a little juice to let you keep shifting to "limp" it back to home/car/safe place 😂 or will it go into a default gear and you'll be stuck in that gear???
Cheers mate!
Pinion declares that you can shift many times even at battery full depleted, these "emergency settings" were active even on di2, the derailleur keeps shifting even with battery depleted.
Don’t remember Exactly but s few Thousands Shiftings should be possible
Waiting for your review to drop. Curious about range vs standard setup and smoothness.
As far as I understood the guys from emtb, the system can still shift even if the battery is gone. How long?
And furthermore, can the system decouple the emotor in case of an empty battery? If not, how is the drag?
How is the transition from 25kph to higher speeds?
You can still shift more than 1000 time, if the battery runs out of energy.
@@carinaKA heard or tested?
Tested in German Version : czcams.com/video/Df9hH6KdGtc/video.html
What is the weight difference between the 1000w & 700w batteries?
Hi Sam I thought it came with a belt and why is there a rear derailleur or is that just a tensioner?
When can I get one?!
I keep looking for any gearbox ebike like this but couldn’t find any for sale? Or is there other makes will be available anytime soon?
Can you put a bigger fork in the front and/or change the frame geometry to skale up the bike towards enduro riding?
Yeah I am not sure why all these companies are stuck at 160mm for ebikes? The real sweet spot is 180mm imo
Can you compare the Pinion system to an automatic derailleur, such as the new Shimano system please.
looks nice and discreet. glad to see EMTB moving away from the monster truck appearance. Why are most of these EMTB not available in the US?
Hi, only one: when it it will be available? Thanks and also price
When is the review coming out? Can't wait!
Nice review, I saw a lot of nice tests but I didn't 'hear' anything. What about the motor noise ???
Did you watch the actually review this is just the first look
Where did the belt drive go?
If they put there Pinion system, why not use their belt drive as well?
Dream bike dream engine dream battery
As this ebikes has a gearbox does this mean it is classed as a moped
no
How quiet is the Pinion compared to the other motors out there? Why did Rotwild design it with a "derailleur" pulley? It's just one more thing to break.
Chain length changes as the rear suspension moves through its travel, still need a tensioner on this or a belt drive. Could have had a tensioner within the frame (as seen on some alternatives), but... not sure why they didn't do that!
All singlespeed full suspension bikes need a tensioner because the tension of the chain-belt changes by the travel of rear suspension, on belt drive bikes there's a tensioner under the bottom bracket zone.
* Do you need all those gears / what would be the downside to lowering the amount of gears ?
* Does it feel front heavy with the weight taken from the rear / and large battery ?
* If running gear wear like cassette / derailleur and chain on some bikes, how much $ do you think it will save people ?
* Is there much rattle noise from within the gearbox?
* Any distributors planned for down under? so many cool bikes in UK that don't reach here
* Is the future now?
Is the drive system better then the competition? Say vs the Levo?
Yep, minimal maintenance, no mech failures (imagine a rock strike), cassettes don't wear out, chains do not break. Also - autoshifting. "The future is now, old man" ;)
But as with all first gen tech - I'll wait for version 2.
Can I get one in the United States?
How does Pinion shifting compare to SRAM Eagle?
its very goos but between 4-5 and 8-9 there is a clunk and harder shifting... make sure you see the review
Price, Availability and how to buy it.
Did he say 1000wh battery!?
Why a chain though?
I want one on a commuter bike...
Can’t wait for this tech to filter down the super lights. Sub 20kg build please and for much less than €10k. €7ish would be ok.
motor drag after 15mph
Same question Sam
Hey Sam, just had a flash back...I think. Didn´t you work at Wild Wallabies like 20 years ago?😂
haha no mate...
@@SamsBikes Cool, now I can stop thinking about that and sleep well but I was almost 100 % sure it was you, scary😄
why chain over belt ?
I’m asking rotwild
Yeah same question … why chain over belt drive?
Why would a direct power e-bike have a derrallieur at the back? Nonsense. It will only annoy you when pedaling now as it may hit rocks and break.
its actually a chain tensioner but check out the review in a few days and ill go into it all.
Where’s the belt?
Rotwild have gone with a chain...
@@SamsBikes we have invented a technology so you don’t need a chain!
Great! Let’s use it! But keep the chain!
Very odd decision 🤷
Where is the review man 😊
Coming man! It’s a epic 20 minute one
Can't wait to see it. Thank's 🚴
shvohlbee? Try shualbeh
You've got 4 days testing which is great and gives you a chance to really 'feel' the ride, get used to the gearbox shifting and so on. What is difficult is getting a sense of how robust the system is longterm. I will be curious on how you feel about that, at the end of the test, as that is a major consideration on such a new development/all eggs in one basket set up. Thanks!
Half of the year after presentation and only one proper test on the internet
Did you see the actually reivew ? This is just the first look
@@SamsBikes yes I saw it. Thank you
Euro's may as well focus on Ebikes since Tesla destroyed their auto industry.
Why would you pair a Pinion mgu to a chain? Nobody will buy this thing. Needs a belt.
