Hey Jon, in the future try using frozen water bottles. Fishing on Erie we do the same thing. It changes the temp of your well bout 10-15 degrees or more. That’s pretty significant. Through out the day we swap them out with new ones.
Smallmouth fishing is truly an experience!

If Maine really wants to make a change to the tournament regulations, they should do it like kayak tournaments that are catch - photo - release and you go by length instead of weight. Fish gets released right away and big fish still matter.
Exactly, so many huge bass die from tourneys. Even in quality live wells, the bass easily contract bacterial infections that mostly result in death.
@@Hugh_Jassle Plus in most tournaments, they all get released at the dock. I can't imagine that helps anything in a large lake. C/P/R makes sure they go right back to where they came from.

If your gonna ice your well. Make sure it's non chlorinated water. I bought ice once for a tourney and it was made with tap water. Came in with 2 dead fish . Now I make ice bottles. I freeze water in bottles and use that.

They did a study on bass tournaments and fish released after from live wells stayed in the area they were released most never returned to their original territory and the delayed mortality rate was quite significant (over 30%)

Yeah. This is antiquated bull shit and frankly quite cruel. Tournaments need to improve their system for weigh-in (utilize digital) or cease to exist. That ruined the video for me.

Don't know who designed the slim shake worm, but I just caught my p.b. on it. A 7lb 4oz West Virginia largemouth. So, I just wanted to say thanks. It was on the large size watermelon red on a neko rig.
Ayyyyyeeee West Virginia! Where are you at? A 7 pounder is a unit! I think the biggest I've caught in my area is about 4 pounds. Black and white frog. Preston county in a semi-private lake!

This is awesome! This is my first year fishing tournaments (slay nation Oklahoma) and that same blooper same color won us our first tournament! Wasn’t 30’ deep smallies but those shallow LMB’s tore it up!

Catch & Release is the ONLY way tournaments can continue as a viable way to compete.
Kill only is an archaic model and like you said, C&R has proven to be the way as we merely enjoy the time we get with our catches and we promptly send them on their merry way to continue to grow, mate, span and thrive, providing further life for our children and grandchildren to enjoy time on the water and pass down our beloved way of life.

@@andrewsproull8579 75 and 90's with MF frog color (most consistent success). But I also have them in HD rainbow trout and HD golden shinner which have worked well too.

Not trying to be know it all tournament guy, but the long lines at weigh in with no bump tanks is horrible for fish. Also when you get back to your boat, throw them in the livewell with constant recirc and cold water for a little while and release them in deeper water, don’t just dump them on shore.

My years of tournament fishing have taught me have a really good high pressure pump in the live well an leave it running on full blast all day , Don't matter where you fish had a boat on the NWT last month during a tournament get so close we could have jumped into his boat .

Loving this tournament content.
A good way to help revive fish is to get water flowing through their gills. Get the trolling motor going at a slow speed, grab the fish by the lip, hold it until you feel it wanting to swim off.

John B I think you should fish it next year because they are fun to watch but you should buy some G juice for your live well. It kept our fish alive for 8 hours when the water was 83.9 degrees.

This tournament could save the fish if they just drop the limit to 3-5 fish. Especially with it being summer time. Even with a large livewell, 7 is way too much.

Fishing Lake Erie out of Buffalo, I must say smallmouth get weirded out with having a cull tag in their face all day to where they get stressed and die. I also found that keeping the livewell cold is a good thing, but there is also a point where the water is too cold
Just go the way of the kayak tournaments. Take photo and release.

I only keep fish that I am going to eat otherwise they go back in the water right after they are kept. I have away one four pound bass this year and I catch probably a minimum of five everytime I go out. Sometime I have gotten fifty bass in one day.

Must do CATCH & RELEASE!!! Lake Okechobee has catch and release with high # boat tournaments its very important for the next generations coming to fish. Roland Martin, Orlando Wilson, Bill Dance, and many others that are big name Bass fisherman that have fished a longtime Rick Clunn anys my point is that they all wanted catch and release makes 0 sense. My dad caught the Biggest Bass of his life one was 11.4 lbs released it and then a 1 minute later he caught a 11.8 lbs Bass and released it BIGGEST BASS he ever caught and reased them take measurements and a picture weigh it as well of course as well. Catch and release your fish for sure. Thank you Jon B for bringing us along it was awesome to go along sorry you guys didnt get 1st but you were in the money reguardless on how you placed and thats all that matters. this is different. they're invasive fish up that way. sure you can release a nice smallie but instead of killing that fish, all you've done is kill a trout. you just didnt watch it happen. somethings going to die that you didnt want to see die regardless of your choice there.

Invasive fish are fish from another country like an example Red Tail Catfish and here in Florida we have them in ponds here that are in a home community and theres other species that are from the Amazon River thats called invasive. American fish like the Large Mouth Bass which is in Lake Okechobee and many various places in South to North Florida have been BOUGHT by OTHER STATES an example is NY so if you've never seen Small Mouth Bass in your state it could be that it was in your state and you just didn't know because Small Mouth Bass I've seen caught out of cold states many times. Now Large Mouth Bass I never saw them caught in cold states until rather recent 10yrs recent maybe a little longer than that and us Floridians use to have to fly to fish for Stripe Bass well we have a Hybride Stripe Bass instead. Have to for sure and still for sure have to go up north to fish for Small Mouth.
Here in Florida we're now able to catch Oscars (fish), Peacocks (fish), Red Tail Catfish, theres also an all armored catfish in our Everglades, and in our canals these are invasive fish came from other countries. You do know that your state may have bought those Small Mouth Bass as well. Who knows.

@@Job0121 its not about Jon B himself because I know he is about releasing fish in general what that conversation was about is that the gentleman told me he lives in that state and says Small Mouth Bass is considered an invasive fish in his state where Jon B was fishing and thats why they want them to die rather than release them and Small Mouth Bass arent an invasive fish theyve been in the nothern part of the USA for a very very longtime. Some southern states have both. Here in Florida have invasive fish a lot of them in our waterways more in the past 10 years than I wanted to know about in our fresh waterways.

Yo Jon, I've been fishing the quarry lake in your earliest videos. Smallies there are real finicky, drop shotting a live crawler across the bottom has been doing the trick. Also the pike are out of control, way too many in there, all super skinny
