I planted China Asters from seed for the first time this year and they got the yellow disease caused by the leaf hoppers. Good thing, one plant managed to survive and I was able to enjoy a few blooms. For next year, I’ll take your advice and cover them. Thanks for sharing!
I got some Aster seeds from.a friend Pastel mix. First time going to try them Pretty excited Living in Caribbean where its hot with scattered showers. So hoping for the best.
I planted some Valkyrie Burnhilde Chamois China Asters. Was so looking forward to their light apricot blooms but they bloomed pink! Disappointing but the shape of the petals are cool. The pink color does not fit next with what I have planted in that bed so I’m thinking about moving them in the dead of the night, hopefully they won’t notice when they wake up in a different bed. 😬
Hi Daniel, I planted some China Asters from seed this year, and found that they started to bloom really early in the season in Spring and on extremely short stems. They are only about 12 inch tall, and the website says they were supposed to be around 3 feet tall. Also the blooms are much smaller than it suggested, for 2 of the king size varieties, I only got about 1 to 1.5 inch in diameter blooms. They all look really healthy though, just short and small. I would really like to pick your brain on that issue. I don't know where did it go wrong...
@@behmjl Did you also get your seed from Johnny's? That is so weird. I suspected that the sudden heat wave or less light after transplant triggered the flower development on premature plants. I did start the seeds under light for 14 hrs per day, and once i put them in the ground in spring, they got about 9-10 hrs. I don't know if this tells them that "fall is coming" so they have to bloom. What's your situation if you don't mind me asking?
I had this same problem! I also got my seeds from Johnny's. I live in zone 7b. Did you ever find the reason for short stems and overall under performance?
@@afg4464 No... I also tried direct seeding later in the season and got the same result. I am planning to give it one last try for fall planting to see maybe they will benefit from a longer establishment in cold weather and perform as a cold annual. We will see. But planting as Johnny's website suggested is a definite fail...
I know I'm not Danielle but have a theory. Did you expose them to really long days of light at first? That can make certain flowers (like calendula) bolt a bit then flower early on short stems. *Edit - I just looked on the Johnny's website where I bought my seed and it says, "Heat and reduced daylength initiate flowering."
Why is this flower so under appreciated? It is stunning. More next year for me!

China asters are beautiful. Didn’t know about the need to rotate them. Ours just self seeded freely.

Very informative video! how close do you plant the seedlings in your “clumps” of flowers? Are these one cut wonders or cut and come again?
Great info! Thanks🌲🌿
How many trays and lights do you typically have going during the winter for seedlings? I really appreciate the scale of your cutting garden.
Hi! I would say it's an average of 8-12 trays going in succession.
Northlawn Flower Farms thanks! Just watched your potting up seedlings video :)
Thanks 🎉

Dahlia video please..
Why do you say that you're done with them for the season after cutting? Aren't asters cut and come again?
Hi! can you deadhead asters? or just let it fall on its own.. most of our asters are dead
I'm thinking to plant them in the garden but afraid of the pest
Thanks for the content!
