I bought the bus in 2013 from Paul Glover in Bath. It took about a year to convert to its current use as a travelling Fish & Chip shop. Glad you like the latest video!
Be great to see some actions shots, of the bus earning her keep !!!! During these terrible times it's great to see your still doing what you enjoy !!!!
Great video Alan , you did a super job converting the bus to be able to sell fish and chips . From an ex London conductor now living in Canada 🏴⚒🇨🇦
Didnt realise you were near Wisbech. Im in North Norfolk so i,ll definatly have to take a drive out one evening when thngs settle down and try out your F&Cs and have a good look at your lovely bus. Keep the videos coming there great,
Thanks Richard. We are not working at the moment through various reasons. Latest info is on our Facebook page #redbusfishandchips or website www.redbusfood.com - hope to see you some time.
Hi Thomas. Yes, it's a marvelous design - mostly aluminium except the main chassis. I don't think the designers realised that it would still be going 50 years later!
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I just wondered about driving from one place to another, presumably with a load of still pretty hot fat in the back! Great idea though and it keeps another Routemaster on the road.
Thanks for that CGB-75. I only started driving bus in 2013 when I bought it - never driven anything so big up until then. It took a little while to get used to the size, now it fits like a glove and I love it!
@@SELondoner75 It's good advice from lovenationalbus. Sure Alan can drive how he likes. But when it causes unnecessary repair costs to his business, using the gearbox in the proper way makes financial sense.
Hi Allan.. nice video as always. Don’t mind my quick little observation; you seem to be rushing your gear-changes (are you?).. I would thought you’d need a 1/2 second or so between the gears.. All the best..!
Hello Heehean. I don't like to rev the engine too much and have to be aware that once I take my foot off the accelorator the engine revs drop very quickly. I change gear when it feels natural to do so. It could be that every bus is slightly different.
I’ve driven Countless of these RMs from all different engines, they all perform very well, it looks like yours has got proper power steering on it aswell
@@alanandhisbus3416 I’ve driven some recently that only has the power assisted steering and when wanting to reverse and do a turn in a road its extremely heavy, I’ve driven an RCL that has proper power steering and has made all the difference
Thank you for a Nother excellent video Alan. It was nice to hear the sound of the engine did you buy the bus from a bus company or from a private owner? I’ll look forward to your next video Alan.
@@alanandhisbus3416 If the camera was mounted just to see the bus in action I think it be great. Do you mind me asking how it came about to do the bus fish and chips? Cheers
@@letshaveago6077 I already had a small Fish & Chip van before I bought the bus and was a keen Routemaster enthusiast, so decided to combine my two interests!
The drive belts on the engine sound very noisy - are they expected to be that noisy? or are they slipping / mis-alligned? Keep up the good work, a great restoration and use of the old bus!
Hello Chris - Ah, well spotted (surprisingly, that's the first time that anyone has mentioned that)! The noise you hear is from a belt idler. It sort of squeaks. I want to replace the bearing some day, though those that have serviced the bus have not mentioned it to me! I think a new bearing might be in order.
Hello Talek. Yes, we have been attending Stapleford Railway event on August Bank Holiday for many years and really enjoy the atmosphere there. Hope to see you this year!!
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the controls & the instrumentation is sparse at best. One of your videos you mentioned how to determine the fuel quantity. Is the transmission semiautomatic? Steering power assist? Propane or other fuel source for preparing your fish & chips? Doing some more CZcams research on the Red Buses.
Hello Dave. Yes, the controls are very basic, nice and clunky (not those stupid press buttons we get on modern vehicles) and the transimission is either fully auto (which I don't use as its to jerky) or semi auto. Power steering. We have 2 x 47k Propane bottles housed in a special cabinet under the stair well. More videos as soon as I can find time!

Sweet memories of driving these lovelies 😁
The young person bouncing with glee at your arrival in Gedney made me go, “Aww!”
He was waiting for his chips!!
Very impressed with your bus and didn’t realise straight away it’s converted to fish & chips mobile catering it’s brilliant’
Thanks Tim. I tried to retain as many original features as possible whilst converting to Fish & Chips.
Think your bus is amazing. So jealous :) great videos keep up the amazing work
Thank you so much!

Saw that sad news on FB. I never met Alan but he seemed a really decent kind bloke. R.I.P. Alan.
Cool. I'm surprised the routemaster has lasted that long. Amazing. Keep it up. Great video

Yes. Luckily, the pans have covers that keep the hot oil in the pan rather than all over the floor - even with the bumpy country roads around here!
Another great video, are you an ex bus driver ? Your technics and driving skill are great, I myself, been a driver for 21 years, credit to youself !!!

I was a bus driver for twenty years, but your gear changing is pretty bad. You need to rest between gears to allow the revs to adjust.
@@lovenationalbus I think let Alan drive how he wants to, been on many Routemasters in service over the years and alot of drivers were terrible!!!!

Bus bought from Paul Glover in Bath who bought it from Ensign, I believe. Thanks for your interest!
Could we get a video of the chip shop in action? Love bus!
I’d love to do a video of Red Bus in fish & chip action, but slightly more difficult - but Hope to shortly.

Hi Jim. No knob on wheel. Personally, I wouldn't want one - feels OK, as is! Thanks for your comments.
