Just ordered a new one directly from Schaefer. On sale now, at a great price! Really stoked, the weather changes daily in the crazy Bay Area, and I needed something lightweight and comfy. Now if only had a horse.
    Thanks for the great review!

Another great jacket to check out is the Kühl Burr jacket. It fits excellent and breaks in and wears great. It’s not made in USA though. I had one made in china the pockets were way too small but I got another made in Vietnam and it’s perfect.

I heard somewhere that Flint and Tinder is more of a fashion jacket designed to look like work wear. I bought my first Shaefer the other day. I like the fit so far. I had QA issue with a pocket lining not being sewn when it arrived but customer service sent a replacement right out.

I don’t do a lick of ranch work but I’m obsessed with these waxed cotton jackets 😂 already on my third. Bought the Hudson about a year ago, treated myself to the Tom Beckbe Tensaw for my birthday & my summit jacket from Schaefer just arrived 😆

Check out the Over Under Clothing Waxed Briar Jacket if you are interested in a traditional hunting style coat. Designed in U.S.A. Made in England. $340.

Does anyone know if Schaefer Jackets tend to run large or true to size? I'm in the UK so if I buy anything it has to be over the internet and there isn't any sizing on their site as far as I can see. Want to try and get the sizing right as returning stuff would be be a costly procedure at the very least

      Hi (Wheat Shaefer Mesquite )
True size. I wear 46 Reg and the Extra Large fits just right. Ample shoulder room !

I Second that, I own the Mesquite and Summit jacket both large and both true to size. Great quality jackets for the price.

    Thank you for these reviews.
The Filson Westlake jacket is indeed a masterpiece (I have two of them). However, as far as I know, it will never be available again (like a lot of legacy Filson products). I recall that the Westalke was discontinued completely long before Covid and the resulting supply chain issues. Could I be wrong?
Also thanks for reviewing the F&T and the Schaefer, both of which I have been considering.
The plastic zipper on the Schaefer is a HUGE turn-off for me, I had been looking forward to possibly ordering one when Schaefer restocks them in Nov 2022.
The F&T - great looking coat and a reasonable price for sure. Thanks for pointing out the fit issues, something to consider. And another plastic zipper...ugghhh!!

Thank. Yeah, love my Westlake and really wish Schaefer used metal zippers. That said, they seem to want to keep consumer costs down (which I appreciate) and I’d bet a quality brass zipper would add 10-15.

You have it backwards bro. The Flint & Tinder is made in the USA. The Filson unfortunately is not.

At the time I made the video it was correct. Now all Filson waxed cotton is offshore and some Huckberry is.

Hi ! Great video! Is the color of the Flint and Tinder Hudson jacket Tan or Forest? Thanks !

How do the jackets hold up in cold weather? I know that might be a silly question, but moving from California to Texas, im looking for a good quality jacket made in the USA that i dont need to layer to much with.

Yea i had the same issues with the Hudson. The arm length too short. Not a working mans jacket at all imo

Filsons need to be waterproofed regularly to repel moisture and worn with an insulating liner (wool/fleece/down) if you want to wear them in low temps. There are technical jackets that are lighter and warmer, but nowhere near as bulletproof as a Filson.

I believe an argument can be made that the GOLD STANDARD in waxed jackets.. is the British Barbour which is pricey but the ones made in the U. K. are true quality

    • @northwestfarmdad5891
      @northwestfarmdad5891  Před 2 lety +1

A true gold standard. Their West Wax Jacket is on my list for sure. Be careful with them, core waxed products are UK made, however they do not note anywhere on the site the origin of their products. Their non waxed products are not UK made.

Barbours are the best hunting jackets. These three jackets are the best workwear jackets.

    • @jcarry5214

I know someone who sent their 30+ year old barbour in to have some holes repaired and they did it for a laughably small amount of money. Took out the lining, repaired that, then sewed in patches, replaced the lining and rewaxed the whole thing.
