  • Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, has said Nigerian politicians steal public funds and share the loot with citizens to secure re-election. According to the senator representing Borno South, the corrupt practice of most politicians in the country who only steal N1 billion is people-driven, hence, they don’t deserve the death penalty compared to those who steal N1 trillion or are caught with drugs.
The lawmaker made the assertion on Wednesday during an interview on Channels TV Politics Today. Comparing the level of corruption among politicians, Mr Ndume said, “Our corruption is a very small one. Our corruption is people-driven. You steal money, you go and share it with the people. If you don’t, you are not coming back for four years. Some will go and keep it. There is no reason for stealing.
He said, “I’ve been in the National Assembly, I can’t say people will look at me on TV now and say I’m a clean person, No I have to say the truth. If the death penalty is supposed to be included in corruption, I will support it but somebody that stole N1 million, you go and kill him, and then somebody that stole N1 billion, you go and kill him, No.
“But I’m in support of saying you are progressive. If you steal N1 billion, maybe you go to life imprisonment or imprisonment for 20 years, I support that. But if you go and steal, like I’m hearing, N1 trillion of government’s money, that means you have deprived many people, no, that person should be killed. The death penalty is the best deterrent for those being caught for drugs. If you do drugs, you are killing people. In fact, that means you have destroyed the lives of many people and killed many.’

Nyma didn’t get this argument right. If our politicians do their job, people will stop going to them for their children’s school fees.

IF so, then armed robbers, bandits, and kidnappers also steal to help people in their communities. They should be applauded as well. Nonsense

The responsible is both ways. The people should stop going to beg for money from politicians and should instead expect them to develop policies.

How we gradually embibed evil as a way of life and we proudly defend this nonsense publicly.
Imagine the evil Iman and Morayo are endorsing on national television. It's okay to steal and give to the people. May God have mercy. Tufiakwa .

Morayo, spraying is not part of our culture. It is a new generation idea. In the past ,marriages and burials were family based rather fun fare.

If a politician can come out to say this thing, it should show you what type of country we live in. If you have a child and give him everything he wants and not what he needs what do you think will become of that child?.

Imagine what came out of a serving senator's mouth!
The fact that the moderator and the woman in the pink head wrap are coyly justifying Ndume's stance is all that is wrong with Nigeria. 🤦‍♂️

Why cant they do the right thing instead. It is because people know all of them are not doing the right thing thats why they're demanding what they could reasonably provided by themselves.Giving excuses for someone school fees as a politician in this century call for concern.....The issues is lets politicians do the right thing as provided by the constitution of the country. Most of the legislature dont even the their coverage/constituency.... local govt should be giving her constitutional rights and federal allocation for grass root to monitor their accountability.....So many things are nit just right...

There is what we call ideal and then the reality. Don't also forget a community get the type of a leader they desreve. You ladies are talking the ideal but not the reality. Those poticians guys are not foolish or daft infact to win a local government election as a councilor in Nigeria means you're smart. These are the things the people who voted them want and if he or she do otherwise that's the end of his or political career. So get it clear.

What the woman in black and white said is wrong. Polticians don't tell their people what the people need, the reverse is the case. Most of the politicians live outside their constituencies, it is the people that know what they lack and want, then let those representing them know.
