This storage is for redundancy, it is a space intended for copies of everything you save. If something gets corrupted or there is a problem, it uses this copy to fix it, this space is based on the total size of your storage. Sorry for my English, it's not the language I originally speak
It's not for redundancy actually. The truth is the storage taken by Apps is added to "system" due to some permission issues. It can be fixed by pressing the exclamation mark and doing what it asks you to do.
That is not possible, the apps will have a fixed size or may vary a bit, but it is more belivable what the other guy said, redunfancy, apps wonr increase its size based on how much internal storage you have in different devices@@bengerlorf8765
If you click the I on apps, it will tell you to give "My Files" additional permissions. Do this and that size will drop down as it is the overall size of system AND apps.
My man doesn't know his "Apps" taking most of that space. If you take a closer look, he has not given permission to the settings for measuring the total size of the "Apps" in this list, and there is an exclamation point in front of it.
The more recent Samsung phones have the system occupying that much space and it scales with the storage it comes with, it's not just apps without permission Edit: on wan show, linus from LTT opened a new phone that had nothing installed and had a system size this big and checked the apps live unable to fimd a reason for it

@@unborngaming373Part of it is how storage is sold. When you buy 512gb of storage, you actually get 465gb usable, happens with HDD/SSDs and with SD cards too.
So let me clear some confusion here, some people are saying the system storage is accounting for the apps and while that may have been true on the older samsungs it's not on the newer s22 and beyond but what it does do which makes that sort of true is that the system accounts for apk's for installing apps and that registers under system storage so in a sense yes apps show under the system storage but only the installation files for the apps.
For those who don't know: It's the same size of OS data, but the misunderstanding comes in general all data storage like you use on computer, cameras etc. When you buy a storage like for example 512gb, not all 512gb storage can be used, more like 460gb can only be use. Like @josevela3797 said, they just simplified the numbers for non IT people. The real storage is 477GB (because of allocation, byte conversion etc). So it will be weird to tell users that the storage is 512GB, system files is, let's say 11GB, but then you do the math and you're like where all the rest of GB went??
Well it compose of android OS, Kernel/framework, bootloader, page file (i forgot the other term in phone but it is a Virtual RAM) and samsung bloatapps along with file system allocation which is actually 477GB. Combine those and you'll get that.
This is why we need MicroSD support folks. The reasoning behind the removal was absolutely bogus. We should've not bought the S21, instead we bent over and took it. Major loss.
I doubled my storage with an sd card on my note 10 plus. I which it was still a thing. But you know, I thought by now we'd have like 512gb be default by now since you know, the standard config on the note 10 plus, the phone I have and bought 5 years ago, was 256, so knowing how continuous numbers go, I thought we'd already have 512 be the base model.
Let me ask you this. You buy a 2tb hard drive. You install windows on that drive and it takes up 100gb. Does that mean that 2tb hd is now 1.9tb? No. Same here. The flash chip doesnt do that. It's not a scam, it's it's literal storage. Free space on first boot is what your saying you want but truth of the matter is that can vary too. TLDR, it's really complicated. Free space on first boot is what you want, not total storage.
@@Joe-xr2xlyou're buying a hard disk for the storage, and you can do what you want with that storage. When you're buying a 128 gb device advertised as such you're paying for 128 gb storage that you can use, not the phone using up such a huge portion of that space
@Joe-xr2xl if I go out and buy a 120gb SSD specifically to install the recent CoD that (for arguments sake) requires 120gb of space, and I find out I only have 118gb, I didn't get what was paid for. Yes, they vary. No, it's not something people should just accept. Likewise if the SSD had exactly 120gb, and I installed it, only to learn the drive had a partition of 3gb for system stuff that can't be removed, they've not sold me a 120gb drive. They've sold me a 117gb drive. Drives are sold on usable space. Not theoretical space you'll never be able to use because half of it is being eaten up by the system.

@@maharaj8460 might be wrong but I think it’s the lack of knowledge on tech by the general public that forces companies to do this. For example, storage devices perform best when 10% of the drive is free. Same for hard drives on windows. 1TB drive shows about 932GB only. Cuz windows count kB as 1024 bytes which should be kiB unit as kB is 1000 bytes. MacOS and iOS devices counts kB correctly as 1000 bytes. So 1TB drive will be shown as 1TB or 1000GB not as 932 in windows
I remember my first smartphone. A Samsung Galaxy Ace with a pretty solid 512MB of internal storage. I later upgraded to the Motorola G2 with a whopping 8GB of internal storage. Storage these days is getting crazy xD
My first phone was a an Ace to but I am pretty sure 512 Mb was the ram the storage was 4GB and the system ironically used 1.9GB on a fresh reset and 2.5 gB when all apps where up to date 😂
Old video and wrong information. You know that 1KB is 1024 Byte and 1MB is 1024 KB and each 1GB is 1024 MB. this way if you want to have 1GB of storage you have to have 1,073,741,824 Byte of data but all the manufactures sell you just 1,000,000,000 Byte as 1GB. now multiply it in 256 and you'll have 274,877,906,944 Byte of storage. but what manufactures sell you is 256,000,000,000 and now you have something around 238.5 GB actual storage. if you look carefully in the setting, system is saying you have 256 GB total storage and because of that, it has to add 256-238,5= 20.5 GB storage as system storage for you to not looking around for the missing storage.
This is correct and also the reason why a higher storage version showed more space taken by the system. Funny how these people call themselves tech youtubers while not knowing about tech.
Yeah bcos most manufacturers also assume that most of their buyers will only pay attention to flashy features , and not even understand basic binary to base-10 conversion 😂

This storage is for redundancy, it is a space intended for copies of everything you save. If something gets corrupted or there is a problem, it uses this copy to fix it, this space is based on the total size of your storage.
Sorry for my English, it's not the language I originally speak
Your English is amazing, and we likely wouldn't even have noticed if you haven't said anything about it. Give yourself a pat on the back! ❤
@@bengerlorf8765u can reduce it?

My man doesn't know his "Apps" taking most of that space. If you take a closer look, he has not given permission to the settings for measuring the total size of the "Apps" in this list, and there is an exclamation point in front of it.
The more recent Samsung phones have the system occupying that much space and it scales with the storage it comes with, it's not just apps without permission
Edit: on wan show, linus from LTT opened a new phone that had nothing installed and had a system size this big and checked the apps live unable to fimd a reason for it

Nah the storage inflation💀
Fragmentation problem. Android does not offers: "Defragmentation" .
So all that fragmented up space is unusable and is included as system. That is why android storage space keeps getting more and more Used with time without any barrier or stoppage. And your phone dies at the end.

@@unborngaming373Part of it is how storage is sold. When you buy 512gb of storage, you actually get 465gb usable, happens with HDD/SSDs and with SD cards too.
@unborngaming373 I'm at 17.64gb on the one ui 6 beta, was much higher before so may be worth switching over. Plus it's awesome.
Apps are allowed a percentage of cache in storage. More the storage, faster the phone overall. Your apps have more things pre loaded and stored.
Its actually pretty simple. Most OSs do this. They expand to fill more space if it's availeble so they can run better.

For those who don't know: It's the same size of OS data, but the misunderstanding comes in general all data storage like you use on computer, cameras etc. When you buy a storage like for example 512gb, not all 512gb storage can be used, more like 460gb can only be use. For instance on the video that "unusable" space they considered it as system.
For those who question why there is unusable TL;DR would be Convertion misunderstanding on technical than advertised on data.

That is really a damn good question what is the system doing?
Samsung decided to incorporate GB to GiB conversion into system so.. 512GB = 477 GiB.
@@BoomNoBasticok but still they're using a sizable amount of storage and he is asking why?
Like @josevela3797 said, they just simplified the numbers for non IT people. The real storage is 477GB (because of allocation, byte conversion etc). So it will be weird to tell users that the storage is 512GB, system files is, let's say 11GB, but then you do the math and you're like where all the rest of GB went??
@basantatamang2249 the system doesn't actually using more storage any loss in the conversion is just added to the system
Well it compose of android OS, Kernel/framework, bootloader, page file (i forgot the other term in phone but it is a Virtual RAM) and samsung bloatapps along with file system allocation which is actually 477GB. Combine those and you'll get that.

So some of this storage goes into the actual OS and perhaps the rest is ensuring that 10% of storage remains free to ensure system stanility
No it's because it's combined with your apps usage data. So tap on that "i" icon on the apps then allow file manager. Then you can see the apps usage data.
Yeah but a phone with 89gb occupied out of the box is still pretty stupid.
That's why i always respect companies who offer an sd card slot
@@gabrielaleactus9932 its not 89gb occupied out of box
The apps might be using like 30 gb, and 60 gb for system is still a lot
@@eveningafterrain it is not 60GB. It is GB vs GiB units. Storage is 512GB but android uses GiB which is 476. That difference is added to system. Other phones usually does not say 512GB available storage but 476 and system is smaller
