  • @SybalJanssen
    @SybalJanssen Před 2 lety +24

    Oh for crying out loud what’s the big deal about bone broth. Coming from Midwest cattle country my mother made bone broth routinely but we called it stock. If you are using beef use the long bones with some meat on them as well as the marrow and the ribs, cut them to fit a stock pot, add quality water to cover, season, add some carrot and onion if you wish and cook for hours over low heat until all the marrow is out of the bones and the meat has turned into sludge. Remove what is left of the bones and vegetables. Don’t strain or clarify or you will lose the all important marrow. Only use bone from grass fed and grass finished beef because bone marrow can absorb pesticides etc. When making bone broth from chicken, cook the chicken with the meat over low fire for hours and hours until the meat becomes a porridge. The Chinese usually add ginger and I do as well. Remove the bones from the chicken meat slurry. IMHO the clear broth in little cartons is to clear and pretty: I suspect the valuable marrow and other nutrients have been removed for cosmetic purposes. I am also suspicious about the source of bones: they could come from feedlot beef and poor quality chicken.

I’m 6’ 180lbs at the start (already had been doing IF with a good clean diet and exercise), but was shocked to see I dropped to 172.8 - 7.2lbs lost in just 66 hours. Did this to kickstart a 4 week keto diet and I’m positively surprised by the results and loved the the little experiment. Will definitely do this again in the future. Great stuff, keep the info coming and thank you for all your science based videos.

    I definitely have gut issues, and no health insurance. For a FACT when I eat no solid food for a day or so, my stomach is flatter! It's not about calories, I can go ham on some calories from juice, broth, tea - it is absolutely that my digestive system has a hard time with solid food. I've tried every powder, probiotics, prebiotics, so on. I still have digestive issues! I don't fast, because of mental health issues which lead to binge eating when I fast - when I started eating smaller meals, more often, starting my day with a powder supplement and a protein shake only, I have lost 10 pounds in 4 weeks. I have cut back NO calories, but have started to go lower carb and my digestive issues are worlds apart from where they were! I have a coworker who eats 4 meals in an 8 hour shift and is skinny and he scoffs if I don't eat solids before noon, but he doesn't understand digestive issues! Giving your digestion a break helps so much and I am living proof! I still have about 42 pounds to lose but when I learned to avoid foods my body doesn't like to digest - whole beans, whole corn, heavily processed foods - and do fluids only before noon, the weight melts off and my belly is flatter. I ran out of my protein shakes and have been struggling and am now back to having digestive upset because I've had to eat solids in the morning! If you are a female who is struggling with bloating, load stomach, gas, etc, try eating lighter and doing stretches with no solids. The science of bone broth, I've looked into it, it is suss. Sorry. But broth is a great sipping liquid regardless and bone broth is the best!

    I feel like the terminology is increasingly confusing. If a fast is defined as “no calories,” this isn’t a fast. It feels squirrely to label it as such. I do find your content super helpful and informative but I prefer to think of eating breaks of under 24 hours as TRF rather than fasting, since the effects are so dramatically different after the 24-hour mark. For me, a “fast” is no calories for 24 hours or more. Consuming bone broth is, by definition, not a fast. I’d love to hear a different frame for this strategy.

      Thats bullshit. Bone broth is full of amino acids, collagen, and fat. Far more bio available then plant based foods.

    Extremely interesting. After this video I've watched your fat fast ones and I decided to embark on a 2-3 days fat fast. You have talked about oils and ghee, which leads me to wonder : would homemade mayonese made with avocado/ olive oil also be on this list?
    Thank you for all the efforts to create this amazing content. I do feel lucky to have someone like you out there that truly cares to bring some positive changes into people's lives.
