- The Democratic Republic of the Congo could be one of the richest countries in Africa because of its mineral wealth, but yet it’s one of the poorest. Corruption and exploitation has cost the country billions. With the elections there’s hope the country’s new leaders can improve the lives of millions of people.

DR Congo has vast resources - from the pristine rainforests to the valuable ores that lie beneath the soil.
It has gold, diamonds, uranium, rare-earth metals, copper and cobalt - an essential ingredient in electric car batteries.
The south-eastern province of Katanga is the centre of the country’s mining industry with vast areas of open-cast pits and 60% of the world’s cobalt reserves. To Find out more:

Oil and Gas dominates the resource sector of the Republic of the Congo (French: République du Congo), also referred to as Congo-Brazzaville, with the petroleum industry accounting for 89% of the country's exports in 2010. Among African crude oil producers in 2010, The Congo ranked seventh.
Along with large recently identified oil fields, the DRC may hold as many as 30 billion cubic meters of methane and natural gas in the three major petroleum deposits.

No one is saying who benefits from the riches of the DRC? Who wants to keep the country under perpetual fear and war so it can be better exploited? Therein lies the issue. Everything else is noise.

Where has all that astronomical wealth gone? If is is enough to transform a country from poverty to a heathy existence, there MUST be an easy and obvious track that leads to the guilty, that much money cannot be hidden
