You can't sacrifice Nicol Bolas to Lord of the Pit and keep the other Nicol Bolas in play, because the Legend Rule is a state-based action which is checked as a player is about to get priority. Lord of the Pit has a triggered ability, and the sacrifice has to be made during the resolution of that ability. By the time the active player has priority to handle Lord of the Pit's trigger, the second Bolas is already in the graveyard. Back in the day this might have worked (when you could sacrifice lands to Zuran Orb during Balance's resolution, for example), but not with modern rules. Sorry!

Sadly the Northern Paladin group has become far less active online, but you can still find people on the discord to play with. The Vancouver Grizzly Bears are running a tournament in January 2023 on Discord and are very much still alive!
