- Arma Reforger has been all over twitch and youtube the past couple weeks. Today we talk about why it has been everywhere, and if its worth getting into. For 30 dollars you really can't beat the amount of entertainment Arma Reforger offers.

400 hours in arma 3. Just picked up reforger on sale yesterday and dam its good. Same amazing arma gunplay but with better graphics and it runs a hell of a lot smoother.
And the best part- no hundreds of DLC you practically have to pay for like arma 3!

Picked up Reforger in Sept 2023 and as a console player it’s my first Arma experience. I don’t regret buying this game at all..
Bohemia is not committed to adding content to reforger, they said that from the beginning. Its a stepping stone to Arma 4 and more or less, a game to keep Arma on people's minds in the microwave era in my opinion. But the modding community is doing their thing like all Arma titles. Reforger is good and in due time Arma 4 will be great.
That is good and all but recently they have been really committed adding content to reforger! thats why its popping, they made absolutely great updates.
Uh homie this game gets better updates then cod or battlefield maybe even squad

@@Zer0FuXGiv3n Yes modding community have made great stuff, but we are talking about great updates we have got in last year and this year! resistance mode, bug fixes, enviroment overhaul, health and medic system, whole 1.0 update, helicopters, new weapons, new AI system and everything. great stuff that really made this game be good!
No the devs added choppers and are the ones adding the core sekelton of the game

Reforger has been a ton of fun and glad it's getting so much love. Big fan of Arma over the years and in just the few hours playing on official and modded servers it's really made me want to stick with reforger for a while just due to the improved systems. Here's hoping that more DarkGru servers get spun up because they're full any time I'm playing.
I should note, the only issue I've had so far has been the inventory system and not being able to move things around, drop items, or pickup items.
Reforger is a NATO exercise code name from 1988/89, 129,000 NATO troop took part during the cold war era in Germany. Thats where the name comes from.
This is my first Arma game. As a lover of anything military since birth, ive quickly fallen in love with this game. Certainly not for all. Dunno if I’d recommend it to the regular COD player.. it takes time to position yourself, and find combat. It’s not all about kills and being top Chad ya know.
This video made me wanna play so bad… I’m hopping in after work to do some supply runs. 👍🏼

hell yea man. you on PC? in my true honest opinion , if you play the KOTH map or 1st/3rd ranger battalion, and after you play to where you know every arma reforger keybind without having to go into controls, buy arma 3, and play the KOTH & 55th/77th battalion servers. they’re 5-10x better than reforgers are, in content and a ton more, and are worth playing separate from reforger just for that reason.
for example in KOTH on reforger, there are no ways to change ur appearance (wanna be a ghillie sniper? can’t), like 75% less vehicles, no perks, and a ton more.
same thing with the operations mode. the AI can’t drive on reforger, and there’s no jets, way less vehicles etc. AND the operations aren’t just made by another person in real time, there are genuine 100-player TRUE, 1.5 HOUR LONG operations. SUPER WORTH.
Great overview of the game, and it's great you branching out and covering some Mil-Sim games because you picked the right one, I believe it's actual history in the making since we are here at the inception of the Enfusion engine along with seeing this progress all the way up to ARMA 4! ..............Imagine what this engine will eventually be able to do if it's just getting started!
Stayed away from this game at the start because it was pricey and people were saying it's buggy. Now, I just bought the game last week and it was because I saw some NEW good viral reforger videos on CZcams. No longer was I hearing "it's unplayable" or "it's super buggy". I saw people having fun and recommending the game to others, so I got it!
It still has some issues, but can make for a really good time!

By any chance, do you know what camo or kind of soldier that is in the thumbnail?
I love the animation aspect of the game. I like that the ATACK phone actually pulls out of your pocket and you actually use your hands to look at it and it’s not just stuck on your screen and you use your mouse to move it everywhere. I hate that. And then the aspect of me being able to play game without my frames dropping at all unless we’re just playing GM.
in another thing with the bacon, loadout editor, you can edit your helmets, usually depending on what month you can edit your guns, you can change the barrels, the uppers the suppressor etc!
There’s actual customization you can do unlike. You couldn’t do three because they just didn’t have it and no one made a mod for it (that i know of)
some of the helmets you can put on like 7 to 8 different pairs of night vision, and one of them I think has like a thermal monocular and then one night vision monocular so you can switch back-and-forth from thermal vision, which is really really cool.
As someone who played Arma 2, Arma 3 and now Reforger, I enjoy Reforger much more than Arma 3. Yes, Arma 3 is a much, much more complex beast but the lack of PvP in the main servers turned me away. It is most often some KOTH server that turns into COD light where you die 40 times until you reach your destination (a moving point that is pretty small). Reforger has PvP out of the box and the fights are more decentralized on the map. It isn't perfect but it is mostly fun
COD light is a good description, I only played about 3-4 hours in arma3 before turning it off and basically never touching it again, not too mention it ran like crap on my pc. Reforger is much more accessible, and I think that helps atleast for people like me, not perfect, but very fun depending on the server. Thanks for the insights! I bought this game for my series x yesterday. Its the most fun ive had in a while. I was playing earlier and holding a road by a base we had and waiting for supplies to arrive and i saw someone walking near me, so i shouted for them to identify themselves as they had the same uniform as me. They killed me as it was an enemy player who stole and wore our own uniform. It was so cool. I totally didnt expect it 😂
The w.c.s servers are really good aswell have had a ton of fun playing them. playing from central texas and the eu servers feel fine with high ping besides the occasional DC.
I think those are Klean's servers, so I would def recommend those as well. They weren't up yet when I was recording so thank you for posting about them.

Just got the game and to me it feels like I'm finally playing the game I expected Operation Flashpoint 2 to be, all the way back in late 2000s. Been just a kid back then and had really really high expectations after seeing the trailers.
I play this on Geforce Now with maxxed out everything. Runs and looks great!!!!

The main PvP mode built into it fees like better squad. Like Squad pre-ICO, with more open scope matches wnd way better squad cohesion

You can actually side strafe in this game and win gunfights…. Something that totally happens irl /s
@@shadow7988 let people enjoy things man. If you want something inaccessibly slow and “authentic”, there’s always Arma 3. Reforger’s here to bridge the gap between games like RS2 or Insurgency and the slower milsims out there. If you want people to actually feel like they need to take cover and maneuver properly under fire, while still giving players a respawn mechanic, it helps to have to worry that the enemy players can actually hit you by anything other than an extraordinary volume of fire

Also this is terribly ironic, considering you're arguing for a return of laser tag to Squad, not understanding that Squad is a successor to Project Reality, which is where the ICO's gunplay mechanics come from, which makes you the one that needs to let people enjoy things rather than expecting every FPS to play like CoD or Battlefield.
Milsim games always have this problem with them being realistic is lack of team work
Why work with your team to sruvive when you can just go lone wolf and wipe a hole 8 man squad and then just respawn when you die
Squad added ICO to fix that problem to some degree
Yes it got rid of most of the community but it brought back people that have been prayingnfor it to come back to its original path
Enfusion engine will always be a compromise. It's a hybrid engine... and while I applaud Bohemia for making the most of it... the most has came and went. Unreal 5 is here, and supports the objects/interactions needed for milsim and survival games... WITHOUT all the physics headaches. I'm really hoping they use Unreal 5 for DayZ² and Arma IV. On the flip side, I'm always a fan of developers doing their own thing... I just hope their next attempt doesn't have physics calculations split between two different core engines.
CANT WAIT FOR ARMA 4! LETS GO! I hope they come out with an exile mod for this engine.
I bought this game about a year ago and even then knew the potential was there, so I never regretted purchasing when I did. Nowadays its about the only thing I look forward to playing with my friends

The "Military Barbie" part really bothers me, second only for the wait times on missions (that end up happening way too often back when I played it in the past). For the gear part, if you shouldn't use it, it shouldn't be available to begin with.
The question is why not? AR (Arma Reforger) is 10/10 in my book. It’s a hidden gem and I just hope it stays that way.
i recently got it last weekend and already have an assortment of clips from the dark gru servers and it’s so addictive like 38 hours of playtime in 2 days

The reason for the major drop off in the first week was the server issues and disconnects, that has id say been 98% resolved in Reforger only bolstedred by the fact they increased server capacity up to 48 in official servers .
The mods and new patches have bought people back to try again but the server stability is whats keeping them there .
Looking forward to the next patch this week with flares / ai commanding and remote explosives!

I only played the multiplayer, but it does have official servers which are pretty fun. The community servers automatically install the mods for you so you just have to click join and it downloads them for you. Really makes it super easy if you wanted to try it.
In the beginning, Reforger didn't have mods yet. But now it's becoming more mod friendly and more people have been playing it now.
its nice the game has gotten more players but a big issue currently is the amount of toxic and immature players and bad server owners, as a day one reforger player community servers have never been good and its an unfortunate fact, atleast there is still hope in the end of the tunnel with the next major update.
Peak 5,680 players last month, I wouldn't say "everyone", but yea it's improvement from it's normal numbers (still bad af)
I play on the Darkgru servers alot. I play on series S and it runs fine. A little clunky sometimes but it's usually server fps that's lower than my console Fps.

Squad is clunky?
Compared to ARMA not by a long shot, ARMA loves to brag about their 20+ character movements that nobody actually uses to its full potential.
ARMA has a lot of mods, but Squad strikes that balance of fun and respecting your time. It's not a hardcore Milsim but it sits nicely between ARMA and say Battlefield gameplay.
1+ hour gameplay sessions on average that requires 50 players to teamwork (In a good server) vs 50 others is why I love squad over ARMA. Nothings worse in Reforger when a medic is completely clueless and your left to sit for 2-3 minutes just bleeding out.
Reforger has potential, but I doubt it will go far, it might even die off once ARMA 4 finally hits.
The thing that threw me off this game at the start was the time it takes to get from MOB to action. However, once you get accustomed to it, it just makes it that much more fun. You actually value your life and play smarter.
Closest thing ive ever played thats like operation flashpoint. And that game was one of my childhood favourites.
isnt the maps based on OP:FP?....but awesome game, hasnt aged to bad....but i will boot it up every no and then. i used to spend hours in the mission editor filling the base with the various gear/vehicles and setup mini missions to play on. I did that in arma 2 as well, made a containment zone with zombies and "ran outta gas over it" with heli with my buddies and told him to try and make it out lol. Always enjoyed this series

It runs on an xbox, so I would think so. Double check system reqs on steam before purchase though.

Because reforger is amazing. Mods are great and all but the base game is so fun, cold war is dope!
Recently got it and it's pretty good graphically and decent performance. It could use some improvement though. It still needs a lot of work though as it is missing stuff. Vehicle interiors is pretty fucking cool and all the clickable stuff.
i'd like reforger more if they actually fixed the VOIP cause omg its soo stuttery i actually thought one time it was all my audio devices but no found out it was the recent update and i hope bohemia releases an update soon because i really want to play again
How is it compared to Arma 3? I’ve always had a hard time getting into that game whenever I played it, especially the multiplayer.

Arma 4 will probably be the better product, but we don't know when its coming out. If you have that Arma itch though Reforger can scratch it! Can't tell you what to do, but I enjoy reforger.

when playing any Arma game , your standards should be more along the lines of PVE "Roleplay" there are hundreds of servers for PVP perposes aswell obviously but Arma thrives in "scripted" roleplay style servers. With Reforger and Arma 4 tho due to improved infantry mobility PVP may actualy be mad fun .
Depends on severs darkgru public servers are pvp when servers like chillfan is pve. The 4mmr events are some pve and pvp mix
Everything in the video is PVP. All the darkgru servers (to my knowledge) are pvp. There are a lot of pve options in ArmA if you prefer that though.

dayz 2 will be modded or built from this engine from within the game, there may already be some mods to make it similar.
I need to play it more, but the DayZ mods I have played in reforger need some time. I think DayZ 2 will be made from Arma 4.

the game is fun but the problem is the admins everyone including myself wants to play on these modded community servers that have many quality of life features the official ones lack but then that means dealing with abusive admins the worst i’ve encountered was on vietnam 67 they banned me in retaliation after calling them out for spawning vehicles normal players couldn’t and they even waited until later in the night while i was off to do it because if they banned me during the chat interaction they would of looked bad it’s sad but that’s the problem with letting the community police itself bohemia needs some guard rails unless they want this ending up like gmod servers some power tripper is gonna be teleporting you outside of the map to talk because you were using an M4 as a russian type shit that’s where it’s headed

Reforger is incredible. I have thousands of hours in Arma3, but its now gone the way of Arma and Arma2 for me. Reforger is the way.
Question is, is there single player or sandbox like the previous Arma?
I do not believe there is much single player, but I could be very wrong. I didn't look into single player at all.
because modders carry all arma gameplay, bohemia forgot that when they did dayz standalone for years, and it does take time for those mods that can carry to be made (been about a year or something since reforger and people are actually getting good at new toolset)

@@lonerjb That would have been the best result, yes. But something tells me that Arma 4 comes first and only after that we can expect new DayZ. That would mean years before we get DayZ sequel on modern engine. I sure as heck hope I´m mistaken and DayZ 2 comes out earlier.
@@Hombremaniac Nah you are 100% right. DayZ only has a handful of devs. Its full steam on Arma 4, then fingers crossed DayZ 2.

What you're seeing is modded servers. You need to add them to join.

If you go to multiplayer and search "realism" you should be able to find the servers, or similar that I was on.
Because shroud lol random video popped up of him streaming and it was some of the most exciting gameplay ive seen in a long time its unfortunate how janky this game STILL is after years but at least its getting better little by little
I tried playing reforger, yet I could barely find anyone to play with. It's mostly just people sitting AFK hoping more people would join the sessions.
If Bohemia would have just made a Co-op mode with similar A.i. combat like Arma 3, maybe people would have more interest.
the modded ukraine/Nato Servers are just awsome, having a blast.. brings back the good old arma 2 / wasteland moments but even better...its just a dream yet not for everybody.. arma games Were always a niche

I didn't know that, but everyone I talked to in game on xbox thought it ran pretty well.

to answer your question, on my series x it runs great with a constant 60 fps on low settings, my pc is obviously better but it does run well on console, for it being console
