Chevy Express with Repurposed Furniture | Van Tour

- A very popular style of van for low-cost vanlife is the Chevy Express. This dependable van is a workhorse and it’s easy to find mechanics and parts. In this video, I tour a 2011 Chevy Express 1500 with a Fiberine high-top that is currently used for part-time travel with an eye to go full-time in the future. I love touring vans that aren’t finished to encourage other women to get on the road. Build out what you need for now and you’ll figure out what’s missing as you go.

Using the gutters was an excellent idea. For those who do not know, the chevy express van is the exact same vehicle as a GMC Savana van. Just a different name plate.

Great interview!!! I really like the high top and how she used gutters to cover the edges, the lights that pop in and out are perfect! Keeping it simple is key. I want to get a Chevy Express for the same reasons, dependable and anyone can work on them so that keeps cost down. She has done a great job putting this van together, so nice that her daughter is encouraging and helping her along this journey. Thanks for sharing this tour!

I love this! I have a 2011 Chevy Express 3500 cargo van I am building out right now. It's great to see other builds. Love the gutter idea. I am having a fiberglass topper put on mine in August in Washington.
Very nice van. There's a lot to say about keeping it simple. Good for Karen.
Suggestion: There is 3 1/2 inches of unused space under her bed due to the height of the 2x4 supports. Great place to put hiking poles and other thinner things suspended with hooks. Maybe a shovel or a windshield scrubber. Broom. Lots of small profile things.

Thank you for introducing Karen on your channel, she has several ideas I know I would use in my travel vehicle (can't decide what to buy yet). First, I want to say that I do relate with Karen's decision to chose van life, my income after retirement will not be sufficient to maintain my current house, plus the upkeep, electricity, etc., so van Life it will be. Karen's overhead lights that can be removed and recharged is something I have not seen before, very clever, also the use a painter's extension pole for her tarp is a good idea. Thanks again, Joni!

Really nice video and great looking van, that cabinet looks very nice. Like that your daughter helped in your build. Smart use of rain gutters. Im going on a road trip soon will post my drive. I dont have a built out rig, but use my car, suv to camp in.

What a brilliant awning idea! Don’t put your money in an annuity when you sell your house. There is no FDIC insurance on an annuity, I don’t think. Rent out your house and put it under a property manager.
This idea works for some, but for others it can prove too risky. Be very careful and thorough in your planning and make your own decision.
For some reason my browser refused to follow the link to Fiberine; said it wasn't secure. I googled it and the link there worked perfectly. I have that same cabinet in my express. Love it. If anybody knows how I can raise money to fix my beloved van please let me know. Catalytic converters were stolen. Its caused many other problems. It still runs but I need 4000.00 worth of work done. I'm on fixed income and in section 8 housing now. I want out but can't fix it. I would appreciate any place anybody knows who could help...
How do you keep the furniture from falling over?
Everything built in a van needs to be bolted to the frame. Some do this so that it's easily removable, by using the installed tie downs, others use a more permanent approach. While I don't publish build videos, there are a lot of them available on other channels.
yup vanlife , cheaper then your 4000 dollars apts , how ever those vans comes with headaches , they rust, they engine problems , and they eat too much gas lol
