Anita Baker says "goodbye", but Rotterdam says "hello", because with this Farewell Tour the singer is now visiting the NN North Sea Jazz Festival for the very first time. Baker was born in Ohio, but grew up with foster parents in Detroit. She started her career in the funk band Chapter 8 in the late 1970s. Baker returned to Detroit where she had all kinds of jobs, until a former employee of her record label convinced her to start a solo career. Her first album The Songstress was released in 1983, successor Rapture from 1986 ensured great success. The accompanying hit single Sweet Love remained her largest in the Netherlands; in the US that was two years later Giving You The Best That I Got. Baker now has no less than eight Grammys to her name, plus four American Music Awards and seven Soul Train Music Awards.

I saw her last night in Dallas Tx! She had grown men in the audience crying… crying. Had me getting overwhelmed even. Anita is THEE TRUTH! Her voice is no less than force of nature… something supernatural. I don’t know how she performed at other venues but last night in Dallas, I’m 100% certain she EXCEEDED EVERY ATTENDEES EXPECTATION. …grown men crying! I’m not a religious person but feel truly ‘blessed” to have had the opportunity to hear her live. What she’s offering us is the definition of “soul music” in a time that it barely even exists anymore. I felt so healed listening to her.
I flew to Vegas to see her last year in May and let me tell you, you are correct. I was overwhelmed emotionally almost the whole night. By the time she got to "Just Because" I was through that was a close loved one of mines fav song and it took me there!! She is the truth!

Contracts bs that should have not detered her from enjoying the fruits of their labor..The only song we heard from, "only forever " cd with the single ,"lately". I'm still pissed!

Aretha is the shouting gospel type Anita is jazzy, crooning, soulful type. Anita to me is in a league of her own because NOBODY sounds like her you know her voice & music instantly. No one can replace her. No one can replace Aretha either. But I’m just saying someone like a Jennifer Hudson or Fantasia can sing a song like Aretha. Nobody and I mean no one can do an Anita cover. You’ve never heard someone remake an Anita song If they did it sucked! No one can compare she has one of the most unique voices in the world ! While Aretha is known as the greatest and she is, her voice to me is not unique. That’s just my opinion. She’s the goat don’t get me wrong but there’s a handful of singers that can sound like her. Anita & SADE have unique voices. But they’re all great literally !!

I have listened to a lot of music in my life, but none can compare to Ms. Baker. The soul that you put into your music, sends chills up and down a persons spine. Over the years most singers lose some of their voice, but not you, you still got it. 2020

OMG! I saw Anita back in the day, at a "outdoor stage" on the Boston Common and she blew me away. One of my total favorite R and B performers and I was so happy to find her again, she may be 61 or 62 now but I am 70 and she still. has it and is FABULOUS! During this horrible Corona Virus time, what a treat to listen to "my" Anita Baker at this performance. She not only still "has it", she is awesome, better than ever! Thank you, Anita, for these performances and wheelchair or not, if you come to Boston again...I will be there with you, signing and laughing and my "type" of dancing and laughing and crying and rocking out!!! This is great and thanks to whoever put this up, Peter I guess. Thank you, Peter.

Thank you for sharing I saw her this year in Vegas back in June and I will see her again on December 20th in Los Angeles. Truly an icon. I love me some Anita. Brings me back to my childhood cleaning the house on Saturday morning and singing while doing it.

I absolutely love this woman and her music. I am from Detroit as is she. I will say that I was tremendously disappointed to find that not one of her farewell tour dates was bringing her to her home town Detroit. Detroit has supported Anita through her ENTIRE career I was very surprised that she didn't have date for Detroit. I am still hoping that she perhaps has something planned special for us in the D. Come on Anita, you know we love you!. Once this Covid19 is over please come to the Aretha and sing for us!
