    I like the fact that you didn't "over think it". Chickens really only need shelter and a place to nest. Make adjustments as needed, fresh eggs are the best 😊 Goodluck

    I saw in another vid the guy used Styrofoam panels as an insulator inside the roof. He said it made it much cooler inside. Awesome set up !!!

      Thank you, I plan on insulating it before winter..it’s been fine so far in this hot summer

      It works great! Make sure you have enough birds to keep it warm if you have rough winters…ventilation is key…can’t wait to see what you come up with!

    This is my plan it would only be very slightly with wood but metal is just less work and concrete floor for easy cleanup

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 5 měsíci

      Dont forget concrete sweats causing alot of humidity in the summer when its hot, and its also super cold in the winter, wood is a better insulator than concrete, not sure what the conditions are where you live though

    Great video my hen just hatched 21 chicks and i needed a quick and resonable chicken coop and this look like a great option and going to start wrk once the shed gets delivered. I just have a few questions. What kind of roof vents you have and wats the dimentions of the chicken door. Would love an update vid to see how its holding up

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Its holding up great, id recommend it to anyone its just like the day i put it, ill measure the door and get back to you on that, i just made the hole then made the door mechanism to fit

    What did you use for flooring outside? I had grass but they tore it up. Now it’s just dirt. Not sure if to use mulch. Great setup! 👍🏼

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 2 dny

      The run is dirt, ive added wood chips here and there but they prefer the dry dirt to bust bathe

    ? How have the nesting boxes held up? I really like the looks of them, plus the price.

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 2 měsíci

      @@mevsm1 the box themselves have held up great, only thing thats happened to them is the chickens broke the little black plastic piece on the outside of them but they still use them, i did an update video on the coop not along ago if you want to check it out

    This is great! Can you tell me what tool you used to cut the door (into the metal)? Awesome build!!!

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I believe i used a pair of tin snips, a grinder with a cut off wheel would work great too

    Does the shed come with the plywood floor? If not, how did you install the plywood?

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 5 měsíci +1

      No the shed does not come with a floor, i built the floor then put then built the shed and secured it to the floor

    When it’s hot outside does the metal absorb the heat and get hot in there?

    I have been thinking of doing the same, but I’ve been worried about buying a shed off Amazon and not having it meet expectations. Particularly, I don’t want a leaky shed. Can you post links to the shed and roof vents you used if you haven’t had problems with leaking? Also, have you had any problems with the floor rusting? That is another concern I have. I would like to do deep litter, which I don’t think would cause any more risk of rusting than if I had a shallow litter, but it would make it harder to notice any compromised security for the chickens. Oh and that double door would be great for moving compost in and out with a wheelbarrow.

      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I will be doing an update video soon, the shed doesnt come with a floor, i chose to build a wooden floor for a few reasons that ill explain in the next video, i also do deep liter and havent had and problems with leaks

    Is it warm enough for them in the winter? How cold do your winters get?

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 2 měsíci +1

      They did fine in the winter i plugged most of the holes and we had a cold winter, was in the negatives for a while, summers get around 100 degrees as well

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The trick is having plenty of birds in there to keep each other warm

      @@MidwesternTrapper Thanks for replying. We are trying to figure out an affordable coop option. We bought one at tractor supply that said it could house 6 only to find out that’s not accurate. So frustrating. It gets really cold where we are and we have long winters.

    • @MidwesternTrapper
      @MidwesternTrapper  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Weve got 20 girls in this coop if that helps you and they have plenty of room, we let them out for a bit throughout the days were home so they can free range in the yard, no problems so far
