    It looks fun and I love that you covered progression. None of the other reviewers I watch ever give details on character growth or progression and that's the stuff I'm primarily looking for before I buy a game. "Cool, the game is good but what does leveling up look like?". So I appreciated your input.
    I'm gonna wait for a sale or a free ps plus release.

    It would be cool to know what kind of bug you found back then, and if it was corrected in the final version of the game.
    I don't know if you're allowed to say it, though.
    There's one thing I thought while watching a livestream of this game, and I'll say it here:
    the artists who imagined and drew this game should be praised,
    independently from the rest of the game.
    Thanks for your videos!

      They werent too concerned with bugs overall, most of the info they were looking for was like the flow of the game. From what I can tell they added a good bit of QoL type of stuff, Vestals closer to bosses etc. Might just be me, but I remembered the bosses being more aggressive than they are here as well. I actually provided a lot of feedback about the grenades being overpowered and if anything they are more available now.

    Seems like games on Steam are following the furniture strategy, where the retail price is way too high so that they can put the game on sale and still make money. I expect to see this game on sale very quickly. But I look at the price not the percentage discount.

I was pleasantly surprised by the assist mode, which I am making extensive use of. Without it, I doubt I’d be able to play the game much past the tutorial. Great review, new sub.

    Minor tidbit: 1789 (or even 1790, I assume, given the events that have already happened in game) isn't the Renaissance anymore. If we had to use one of the most commonly accepted categorization, it would be the age of the enlightenement.

    Just finished it today and I am overall satisfied. I loved the setting, the visuals, the music and the boss fights but I noticed the same flaws every Spiders game had so far: The second half feels very boring in terms of gameplay because after getting all the new tools there is nothing new to the gameplay so you have to run and run and run from one quest to another. The stories were fine though, but everything felt redundant in the end. I also noticed some balancing problems. The tutorial has a decent difficulty but after the second half you feel overpowered pretty soon. I had an alchemist build and did a lot of status damage while stunning my enemies at the same time. I hardly died thoughout the whole game. I had the same issues with all previous Spiders game. I hope they are going to polish Greedfall 2 after the huge success of part one. I really love their vision. It's just missing some polishing ☺️ It still felt worth every penny I spent 🥰 I love Aegis. She is not the typical heroine.

    These "beyond 100%" reviews are really helpful and they're truly set apart from other reviews of this ilk. Going back to "normal" reviews now seems ill-advised because I don't know if the reviewer really did get a good feel for the game, or did they publish a review as quickly as they could just to get clicks. Maybe more reviewers should follow @Mortym's model. Great job!

    I know this video is over a year old, but the special edition of the game is on sale on Xbox so i decided to search if it was worth it, the fact that its not difficult as other Souls games is a solid thing for me, i have played Sekiro, Bloodborne, Lies of P and one think i don’t like is the difficulty, i ended up finishing Sekiro and Bloodborne just to prove myself that i could but i did not enjoyed the process although i really like the visual design of those games, so this games look visually really interesting and i expect to enjoy that part with out too much frustration.

    I'd love to know how you prep for 100% games, particularly in the Souls genre that have multiple endings and often times require seemingly insignificant actions to be taken early in the game. I've had so many platinum attempts end because I miss some random choice.

    • @Polak966
      @Polak966 Před 2 lety +2

      I also think that some games, especially near launch, are not "100%-able". Like you say about convoluted choices, there's also so many things that are sometimes hidden that, without a guide or the knowledge of others, you'd never find them out. Take Elden Ring, for example.

      @MortismalGaming  Před 2 lety +5

      I've made a video about how I approach them, Games that only use one save are a pain, but in most games I just make hundreds of save files. Elden Ring in particular actually took closer to two weeks because I played through it multiple times, but in general with souls games once you've figured out how to beat something do it again is a lot easier. The first run is usually the difficult one.

    Glad you mentioned the lack of feedback when you get hit. I found it really strange. I think one of my few deaths came shortly after slapping on the module that increases Balance by 30%. I died while still having full heals because I'd been focused on the enemy attacks and timing my dodges and attacks, rather than staring at my health bar, which is the only indication of taking damage. It's weird enough to play a game like this on PS5 and not have controller haptics when you get hit. But to not use any sort of feedback... screen shake, character model reaction... nothing but your health bar losing a chunk. I can't think of another game that leaves that feedback entirely out. And with the inconsistent dodge-timing and hitboxes in this game, it's pretty easy to think you've dodged successfully until you check your health bar and see you lost a bit somewhere. If the game were harder this would probably be a problem.

    For me (this was my first souls-like, so I died a lot) it took about 52 hours (counted by GOG Galaxy, I did the side quests and DLC as well). The non-interactivity bug occurred to me only once. Sometimes the game refused to load certain ground textures (only fixed by quitting and launching the game again). In the last area and the one added by the DLC there were some heavy frame drops (from smooth 60 (capped) to completely choppy), but they seemed to be tied to certain places + camera angles.
    Oh, and I managed to break the compass once too. I went back to Saint-Cloud, took a key and opened a gate with it before I got the quest to go back. This caused the compass to keep pointing at the original place of the key, after I got the quest, until I finished the quest.

    you're able to buy Steelrising on Greenmangaming for just 38€ even as it was pre-order, that's already pretty good price if you're souls fan. but for 50€ that doesn't make sense at all

    It always happens: Spiders release a game that looks pretty good, mostly because they're taking a game format I like from bigger studios and putting it in a different setting. I know it won't be as good and I'll probably put it down after a bit, but I buy their game anyway. Sure enough, I play it for a bit and put it down for something else.
    I've only had a chance to play about an hour of Steelrising, but it feels pretty good so far. Surely, this time will be different...

    "Combat is a little too easy"
    *me who died 30 times just arriving at La Cité: really? :D
    I 100% GreedFall through out 5 playthroughs and when I heard of GreedFall 2 coming up in 2024, I just had to play Steelrising to see how is Spider's doing in terms of progression in story telling. I was expecting something like GreedFall 1.5... and I kinda got it, but as a someone who has never played soulslike games, it was difficult to play for me and now on my 2nd playthrough I still dont have a perfect grip of it. So as an entrance to this type of games, it's great. I enjoyed the story the same i enjoyed GreedFall, Aegis, despite being an automat, is a great character that has more personality than some other human characters in other tripple A titles.
    My greatest issue with the game however is not the performance, (even tho the unloaded potato graphics textures in some locations were hideous) but game crashing. I play on series X and I swear to god, when i first played it, it kept crashing on every single traveling inbetween locations, so i stopped playing it. Then I got back after few months and even tho it's better. it's still crashing when fast travelling and the worst of worst crashes was when i defeated the last boss, wrapped up the cutscene with Aegis and Athenais.... and it crashed when loading on Luxembourg. The impact of that final scene - RUINED. I had to load again and go through the same boss fight again. Horrendous.

    This is the second bit of footage I’ve seen that looks choppy as hell. I’ve never played a game on my PS5 that looked like that. I am really curious, but I’ll definitely wait for a sale.

    I actually replaced my GTX 1060 because of this game thinking that probably it was the sign that I should update my GPU. Lo and behold, no FPS improvement with the RTX 3050 (I know it's not a big jump, but still)

    I was hoping Spyders would have upped there game from greedfall but this feels like a step up graphically but a step back or sideways in a lot of other areas.

    Hello Mr Mortim, I like your reviews. Since this is here, is there a chance for you to review other soulslike such as bloodborne or sekiro? I would love to see that. Nice review, thx!

    Honestly experimenting with different builds is nowhere near as fun as in other souls or souls like games. It feels like agility is just the way to go. You get the nemesis claws pretty early in the game, and they do immobilization damage very quickly. At that point you're just easily slashing through everything standing in your way. Alchemist build is kind of fun but it takes many more hits to take down an enemy until you upgrade weapons which is later on. And strength builds are just incredibly slow.
    I did enjoy my first play through though.

    Five hours in. I'm surprised more reviewers haven't compared this to Fallen Order. It's being reviewed as a soulslike but really its a single player action game with souls and metroidvania elements. Yes strictly speaking it's a soulslike, but between the elemental debuffs and the endless blood vials the player character is so oppressive that it doesn't feel like a soulslike anymore. The overall aesthetic is very well done and probably the main reason to play this. I don't love the character's movements, there's not much weight to them and the turning feels too fast. The performance issues are weird, I'm on a 3060 and they're definitely there. It's more obvious when I put it on high, but even on medium it feels like it's dropping frames because it shouldn't feel this way at 100+ fps. It definitely feels choppier than Elden Ring did at the capped 60. Fortunately the game is easy, so it's not problematic. I guess the last thing is I was surprised there's no option for french language dubbing. Certainly the eurojank facial animations make it seem like they're done for the wrong language. The dubbing itself is good, and the English pronunciation of the French bits tends to be pretty good actually, but as a francophone it's still a bit weird to have everything voiced by anglos.
