  • How do different home claddings stand up to airborne projectiles? Not as well as brick!
The National Brick Research Center at Clemson University assessed wall sections by firing various projectiles from an air cannon in October of 2018. Vinyl, EIFS (Exterior Insulating Finish System) and fiber cement siding walls each had 4lb 2x4 boards shot at them at a velocity of approximately 50 miles per hour. All of these walls were totally penetrated by the 2x4.
Then they tested a brick wall with a much heavier 9lb 2x4 board shot at approximately 50 miles per hour. The brick wall completely defeated the impact of the heavier projectile.
The walls tested were of typical construction methods built in accordance with local building codes for vinyl siding, EIFS, fiber cement siding, and clay brick. Each wall had the exterior finish, backer board, insulation, and sheetrock on the inside of the wall.
Durable and beautiful! Build something real with Brick.
