To clarify, I got a horrible stomach flu and pulled my oblique muscles so badly I could barely move for a week. Fun times.
🫂 sending virtual hugs
So sorry to hear that. Glad you're feeling a little better.
I just got covid last night so GREAT timing!
Oh that stinks. Glad you're feeling better
Glad you're doing better 😊
Did Whitney sing "Soft Kitty" to you over the phone?
Always hope that you're well.
Glad you’re no longer bed bound, but naps are life!
Glad you're better.
Good to hear you are feeling better now.
Thanks
Oh my, several interesting sounding SF titles here! I do love hearing about the under-hyped, lesser known, hidden gems. And you definitely do a cracking job of bringing those to our attention, so thanks for that. I on the other hand am doing a very poor job of reading them, which is my part of proceedings 😆
That said, I *just* finished reading “The Darkness Before Them”, which I absolutely loved! The heists and action with Katija were breathless for me, and the political conclave scenes in-between with Damant became a bit of a breather. I’d tackled it because book 2 has recently landed in paperback, so there are some live shows with the author planned.
But as it happens I started his “Legacy of Ash” immediately after TDBT for a Readalong, and LoA is a seriously chonky tome. Unfortunately I’m not as into it as TDBT, partly because there are so many characters that I’m struggling to separate everybody; “who are you again?”.
I’ve got a whole bunch of Claire North’s books, she writes varied stuff. Haven’t got to reading the “Songs for Penelope” series yet though.
I'm so glad you loved Darkness. It just did not work for me but I have a few friends who loved it
Oh my. So sorry to hear that. Glad you're feeling better.
Thanks
Great reviews - you've always got stuff that hasn't been talked about on other channels much - glad to hear you are feeling better!
Thanks
I hope you're feeling better 🙂
I've been subscribed to your channel for years now and have brought so many of your recommendations.
Im currently 40,000 words into my horror novel. Hopefully if it ever gets published I'll see you review it on this channel haha
Thank you! Finally back to normal. And good luck with your horror novel
glad you're feeling better! 🛌😴
Me too!
Hao jingfang is a slower burn writer. Vagabonds was also slow and hard to get through but with really interesting concepts! I wish I could’ve liked it more
Agree about Vegabonds
Fantasy rec - children of gods and fighting men! Irish historical fantasy!
I always get the best recs from you 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
what a trooper! u had us all fooled. Hope you're feeling better.⚛😀❤
I can completely relate. I've been fighting pneumonia for two weeks. Glad you're doing better.
Oh ouch! That sounds awful. I hope you are on the mend Dale
glad you're feeling better!! i'm so curious about mirrored heavens, so i'm happy to hear that it fits with the other two (despite not being a banger of an ending) 🛏️🌡️
Thanks. And yes it definitely worth finishing out the trilogy
Please make more video sci-fi audiobook
Previous ones were amazing
Thanks. I'll work on adding another one
Surely there's a better way to make time for reading😊
Haha I think you're right 😅
I already have twi out of Claire North's trilogy, I really liked her other books specially "Sudden appearance o Hope". I think you would enjoy more her more contemporary set books. Greek mythology (rather censored version) was one of the things I used to read a lot as a kid, together with Grimm's (this time uncensored) fairy tales, and set of poems from romantic eara (which were not very romantic but very gothic with ghosts, curses, water creatures deaciving unfaithful lovers etc.).
I really enjoyed "Notes from the Burning Age" by Claire North. I'm going to look into some of her other titles.
Feel well soon, Rache. You are one in a million and a vital vitamin in my book life.
Aw thanks
🛸
That is some DREADFUL stomach flu!!! Glad you’re feeling better! 🤒🦠🫖🍯
Yeah over 30 hours... it was... rough
Glad you’re feeling better! 🤕
Thanks Jason
I'm glad you are healing and feeling better! 🤒🤢🤧😵💫📚📖👾🚀🧚♀🧝♀
Thanks
Ouch! That sounds awful. At least you got even more reading time in though. 😁Glad you feel better.
Just what I needed 😅
Great video. Glad you’re feeling better.
Just saw a video from a different reviewer who put Fifth Season on a list of worst popular books. I haven’t read it yet and I’m torn. What made it one of your favorites?
I think I watched the same video. Matt is great guy, but we have a lot of opposite opinions. Lol.
I do understand why the book is polarizing because the 2nd person narration is a very controversial choice. I thought it was so well crafted, but I like it in the way I like literary fiction. The writing style can feel pretentious in the same way authors like Easton Ellis & Atwood could be described that way. I do disagree that the writing is objectively bad, I'd argue it's just not to his personal tastes. So I'd encourage you to try it and let us know what side you fall on.
😊
💪
Hope you recover completely.
Thanks. Just about good now
Have a recc for you that I don't really have a good place to put, but I really wanted to get it out so it'll go here - hopefully not saying you need more bed rest in order to get to it! A friend put out a book recently - Severed Echoes by Anya Dylan. I recommended she reach out here (But I'm going to get a jump on it!) because I think it's just a perfect fit for the kind of stuff you highlight on your channel - a book at starts out with almost a romance premise, but quickly turns into a horror-flavored thriller with great surreal elements. Read it and immediately thought of this channel - Check it out if that sounds as up your alley as I thought.
And hope you're feeling better!
Appreciate the rec
😁
Hello there hey there hey there
Can I please ask, how many books do your read each week?
It fluctuates but I read more than 300 books a year so some weeks I read 7 books (but some of those are novellas & manga)
Being ill sucks, but at least reading is a good distraction.
Yeah it was the only bonus of the whole thing
