  • Let's Resin released a new mold for making a large bowl, so I got it and created 2 gorgeous bowls: one with Aqua Cast, one with Epoxy Resin and Glitter! In both cases, I used Hiipoo's Resin Dye collection for the colorants. The results made the bowl gods very very happy!

    What do you all prefer: the bowl made of an opaque material like Aqua Cast or made of clear epoxy resin (with glitter, of course)??

      I am a sucker for glitter and resin. Oh the possibilities. I like how it's just tinted blue so the glitter really stands out. I would imagine you could give the bottom a little sand and maybe a light coat of epoxy if necessary. I really love that bowl.

      Thank you! Isn’t it great stuff to work with?? Honestly, after trying a bunch of different things like Brusho crystals, acrylic inks, acrylic paints, mica powder, alcohol ink, etc, I think the best colorants are the ones made specifically for Aqua Cast by eli-chem or similar casting compound colorants like for Jesmonite. If you find anything better, let me know 😁

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem +1

      Thank you!! I wouldn't use them for raw/unwrapped food -- the Material Safety Data Sheet for Aqua Cast doesn't really say whether it is or isn't food safe, so I'm guessing not, at least for now. However, wrapped food, like wrapped candies, should be just fine.

  • @Sulzie65
    @Sulzie65 Před rokem +2

    I don’t know. I like them both. Is the aquacast food safe? I forget if you said. I mean can you put apples and such in it? I don’t think I would put anything not in a wrapper into the resin bowl but I love the transparency and glitter in it. Also, what happens if you add glitter to aquacast? I don’t remember if you covered that as well. My memory is just bad lol.

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem +1

      Thanks!!! Probably not, although I read through the entire safety sheet and it didn't really say one way or the other. So I would err on the side of "no, probably not". But either bowl could absolutely hold wrapped anything, no problem. I haven't actually tried adding glitter, because I suspect it just disappears into the mix and isn't glittery anymore. It's like mixing blueberries into pancake batter - you can see they're in there, but they aren't pretty blueberries anymore, just blueish lumps. LOL! Probably not the greatest analogy. I think painting glitter on the outside with something like Stickles (or any other glitter glue) would be a much easier way to add sparkle.

  • @funo6581
    @funo6581 Před rokem +1

    They’re both beautiful! Is the Clearcast you used a deep pour resin? It worked out great. I’ve poured resin much deeper than the recommended depth and refrigerated it, it was just fine but, different brands can have a quicker exo-thermic reaction so, I was just curious. Great video! Thanks!

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem +1

      Thank you!! No, actually the Clearcast 7050 is usually something I use for coaster and tray molds. The reason it didn't really have an issue here is because there isn't anywhere in the mold that's both deep and wide (like if I were casting a skull, for example). Even tho the sides are a couple inches deep, they're also very thin so the resin never experiences an overheating problem.

    • @funo6581
      @funo6581 Před rokem +1

      @@LuxindasOtherObsessions Thanks, that’s good to know. I think I’ll get that mold and I’d rather not wait for a deep pour cure time😂 Also, thanks for letting us know the amount of resin you need for it!

      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem

      @@funo6581 you’re welcome!! One of the reasons I’m such a huge fan of Let’s Resin molds is because they usually include the amount of resin necessary, either in the instructions or in some cases, it’s inscribed right on the mold. I wish every mold maker would be so kind 😁

    Is the Aqua Cast food safe? But then, I'm always more attracted to the clearness of epoxy resin, it's just so pretty as a transparent with glitter.

      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem

      I agree that epoxy resin is really beautiful, especially with glitter ✨
      I really don’t know if Aqua Cast is food safe. It would need to be sealed, so if it’s sealed with a food-safe product like beeswax, then it might be. But that’s a question that the Eli-chem company could probably answer better than I can.

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem +1

      If the layers get thin enough, then it's definitely easy to break, even after it's set up a couple days. So a shallow mold of a butterfly or something like that would be breakable if dropped. Thanks for watching and the question - hope it helps!

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem

      I sort of did in the latest Aqua Cast video in that I added black Brusho crystals to some Aqua Cast to see if I could get a good black mixture. But the Brusho really wasn't strong enough and I ended up having to add mica powder and black acrylic paint. And even all of that got me to just dark gray. So I think Brusho crystals would be fabulous for tinting Aqua Cast, but probably not for making it any sort of deeper or more intense color. At some point, tho, I'm definitely going to do more colorant testing with Brusho! Thanks for the question!!

  • @jenniferdrayer5156
    @jenniferdrayer5156 Před rokem +1

    I love the resin. But also the aqua cast is pretty darn cool. Could you add Glitter to the aqua cast during mixing? (Also is the aqua cast food safe?)

    • @LuxindasOtherObsessions
      @LuxindasOtherObsessions  Před rokem

      Thanks! You definitely could add glitter, but I suspect it would get completely consumed by the Aqua Cast (like mixing something into pancake batter - it's still sort visible but mostly covered in batter). To get glitter, it would probably better or easier to just apply glitter to the outside of the piece, like with an adhesive, or painting on glitter glue of some sort. I haven't found any indication whether Aqua Cast is or is not food safe. The Material Safety Data Sheets don't say anything about food one way or another. So I would err on the side of caution and say probably not (although any wrapped food, wrapped candies, etc. would be fine to put into this bowl, for example).

  • @CeruleanBlue1967
    @CeruleanBlue1967 Před rokem +1

      Thanks!! I totally understand about going with the blue 😁💙 The food-safe question is interesting. Their material safety data sheets don't say that it is or that it isn't, so I would err on the side of caution and assume it's not. On the other hand, I think putting any wrapped food items (wrapped candies, for ex) in it would be fine.
