  • Romantic relationships are often over-valued at the cost of truly appreciating our platonic relationships. How often do we cast our friendships aside for the sake of working on our romantic relationships?

Yoh empathy guys. I was just having this conversation with my friend today. I said to her that sometimes empathy is much more important than being right yazi. This was with regards to an argument I'd had had with an ex (bang dampe yesterday shem) earlier this week. Yes he was wrong but in hinde sight, my timing and how I handled it was awful. He'd somewhere said ".. you're not hearing me.." and truly because I felt so wronged. I wasn't hearing him, yet I was busy preaching "healthy communication ". Homie has been going through the most naye himself. Sleepless nights and insane working hours. And now I feel terrible because I'm imagining how I've added on to that load nami. I've apologised in a parting text but ey its weighing heavy on me. I'm just gonna let him be shem, no calling, no ncengaring. Just leave him be. I feel like thats the best way I can help him okwamanje. Mjolo the mjolos.

Firstly! Sorry you’re going through a break up.
I agree, leave him alone and be present in your “guilt”. Feel it and let it go. Its a reflective moment for you and a lesson! You’ll do better next time! Lastly! Have empathy for yourself and your response at that time- it also stemmed from something. You reflected after! And apologised! That’s a great step already hle❤️

As a man I want to hold my male friends to a high standard. It is unbelievably frustrating that I have been socialized to not actually care for my male friends as I do for my romantic partners. They deserve the same level of intimacy, effort and presence. I want to model my friendships like how I have seen women do.

On the race issue - still need to watch that episode to educate myself on the context (I'm doing a lot of catch up on your videos). However, saying derogatory or discriminatory things about other races constitute towards racism. You don't need to oppressive to be racist - all you need to be is bigoted and that's it. I feel people who say black people can't be racist are afraid to take accountability similar to those racist people who don't believe they're and can be racist.
By the way - love the show and you ladies get me through many a long nights of work.

I’m actually going to try losing weight. My mom is also chunky. My aunts are too from my moms side. I want to see where exactly my body is naturally when it’s at it healthiest.
    Thank you for this.

. So much to learn from you two talkers... I enjoy watching this podcast.
Mina at the age of 27, I'm finding it hard to be as conversational/ free-spirits as you are. I'm struggling with this and it's affecting different aspects of my life. Like how you mentioned empathy being properly conveyed, ngiyazama guys BUT!! I don't know, something lacks.
Because one thing I know is that people confide in those whom they find comforting. And to get someone to be comfortable with you, I believe one would have to be as conversational as you are, for starters. So I think of this as a struggle because it has affected a lot of my relationships/friendships whereby it is perhaps a terrible consequence of what someone had been going through but couldn't discuss with/disclose to me that becomes the topic. Yeah it's broad topic for me, because it's affecting me psychologically as well. But I'm trying hard to improve my social skills, it's just that the harder I try, there more I really don't know what I'm doing or what it is I should be doing.
Anyway, this podcast schools me. It sort of gives me pointers. Thanks guys. School me more✌️

The fact that you’re trying is great Mongezi! I hope you come across people who are willing to go through this journey with you and hold your hand! Be kind and gentle with yourself! Especially because you’re trying. Also? You don’t have to be conversational, you could be a great listener? Consider that!
