A blast from the past. Interesting to see how your videos have changed.
Look at how young the compound is...
Western auto always had great bike parts! Miss that store.
Thanks. Over my 24 years at this location, I've gone through about 10 different shooting table tops, i guess. This one is Cedar, so it should easily last until I'm slinging lead at that great shooting range in the sky! :-)
hickok45 now it’s been 34 years that’s crazy, I wish the current gun culture was the same when you grew up. It’s so different nowadays
I love the older videos, when hickok walks downrange he only crunches through gravel, not a sea of spent cases. Look how much of the burn barrel's still intact!
Thanks. Glad to know I'm providing some entertainment for you all. Any special requests you guys have for shooting videos, pass them along.
I'm going to do a couple of AR videos with my short Bushmaster (my deer decoy hunting rifle :-) ) and my 25-year-old Colt A-2. Message me if you can think of anything you'd like me to point out about how they are in real service. Mine have never left the safe confines of my shooting range, where the turkeys and bowling pins rarely shoot back! :-)
Can you show gsg Firefly please ? Thank you
LOVE that you shot the Western Auto Revolver and told it's history....That is priceless and why I shoot. Thank you!
.22 rifles and pistols are so much fun to shoot. Cheap, quiet, accurate. You can go out and practically shoot cans and boxes all day. I own a Henry lever action .22. I love it.
Boy that is really cool that you have your Dad's guns. my Dad and I had a great collection before I went into the Navy but unfortunately I was deployed when he passed and my sister's sold all of the collection, very nice my friend now I'm working on something I can pass. along to my so. and insure he gets them. thanks for making me remember.
Glad you found us; welcome aboard. By the way, you'll probably see another .22 Rimfire rifle posted very soon.
.22's are so much fun for casual plinking! Minimal recoil and noise, coupled with dirt cheap ammo prices make it awesome!
Thanks for sharing all of the stories that go along with the guns. I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and I'm glad I did because you make the best shooting videos on youtube. I hope you continue making them for as long as you enjoy doing it.
H&R makes a nice 9 shot revolver too. Keep up the good videos, my son and I enjoy them greatly.
Wow--I remember my Father taking me to Western Auto when I was a kid and wow were those MUCH better times to be sure!
Hickok I remember western auto here in NH a long time ago. Before I even heard of Wal Mart or Home Depot. Was a little shop next to the Rexall, Ben Franklin, and Trustworthy hardware. Those were the days when things were simple. I'm barely 40 but the world has changed hasn't it and I guess I have an old soul. I really liked your story about your revelation & your dad. You beamed when you were talking and I thought it was real nice. I own the Buckmark urx standard & love it. The grips are unreal.
Where I grew up the old folks said if you had a .22 pistol & a shotgun you were well armed . That was back when people were REALLY poor & times were hard. You grew it or shot it or you didn't eat. Love your vidieos , keep up the good work.
my first shot was actually a 9mm. Enjoyed every minute of it. Love your vids Hickock, take err easy.
Dad left me his supermatic trophy 106 and it's a gem. When I was a kid I tried to get him to buy the smith instead ,thought it looked cooler. Lol glad he didn't listen
always good to come back to this video. This was the first Hickok video I ever saw. Almost nostalgic now:)
I remember thinking... is he serious about the full auto !?!?!
Man have I learned a lot since then :)
I'm now the go to guy for all things gun related in my group of friends.....
Hickok has been a very large part of that
Thank you Sir, so glad you picked up a camera one day and put a few rounds down range.
Finally got to see the handgun that got you hooked. Thanks for sharing such fond memories
Honestly, I know others love them, but I've never had must attraction to conversion kits. I see the .22 as a separate little animal and have never been motivated to make my 1911 or AR-15 a .22 Rimfire. Guess I'm not very typical, though.
its almost amazing how different the range looks after 3 years
22s are and always will be my favorite forearms to shoot. Thanks for the great videos you make and keep up the great work. I even like your videos of fire arms i have no interest in and you have helped me decide on a few purchases, the latest being a heritage rough rider last weekend which i love shooting already
This was the first ever video from Hickok I ever saw (about a year ago) and from this point on i started watching all his videos. Thanks Hickok.
I've been using Federal bulk pack lately. The Remington has way too many failures.
haha, nice! Its funny every single gun guy I ever met had at leats a little interest in knives, and every knife guy I know enjoys a good gun even if they dont shoot regularly or are not really into firearms..
I really enjoy your videos. You are the most informative and entertaining. I have an old old old FIE 22 plinker single action colt peacemaker knock off that was my first . I thank you for all that you do sir.
Love watching these old videos!
I love how the burn barrel only has a few holes now in 2019 it is see through
Hickok45 please do a buckmark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the stories as much as the guns. Thanks Hickok
GREAT story. Like watching you shoot and enjoy listening to you tell the histories behind all the guns you feature.
22 are so fun to shoot.
@Timespartan111, You won't see (hear) the effect until later in life, when you can't hear anybody. Sounds don't have to hurt your ears at the time to have an effect on your hearing.
Hickok, you’re ok. Thanks for all the great vids!!
i have a revelation .410 pump shotgun i bought at western auto in the late 70's.brings back alot of good memories.i enjoy your videos.keep them coming.
Uploaded on Sep 7, 2009 16:04 "Hopefully that shortage has about run its course..."
Pffffttt.... hahahaha... hah.... ha.....
:(
+Vechs and still hasnt
in the future the shortage has started to blow over but .22 will probably never be the same price as it used to be. $50 for a box of 500 bulk. Just a few short years ago it was only around 15
i just bought 400 rounds of browning for 30 bucks at field and stream
Vechs And and
I just got an email the other day of 5000 rounds on sale for $199. Crazy how much it's changed.
The Best Shoter of the World i love him
Thanks. I like that idea.
MR HICKCOCK.my first handgun back in 1972 was a high standard sentinal 9 shot revolver nickel.loved that gun.musta put couple thousand rounds in it before i sold it.missit!wish i could find one again.thx for the video,it brought back good memories.
Amazing how this video has aged, people love it all the same.
I'd like .22 a tad more if my GSG didn't jam all the time. Rimfire stacks weird so it doesn't feed perfectly.
I watched you put holes in some of those clay pigeons that didn't shatter or move. Stubborn things. ;-)
22s are just a joy to shoot. My very first gun was a Browning Buckmark. Still gave it. Absolutely flawless.
Very cool that you still have the old .22 revolver. I enjoyed hearing about the history of it (and, yes, I remember Western Auto). I too have the first gun I ever shot - a Winchester 69A bolt action .22 rifle my grandfather gave me. Shot my Taurus 94 at the range today. Fun indeed.
I just watched your Beretta 92FS video where you mention trading your first one for something, then I jump over here and find the gun that you probably traded it for! What an odd coincidence.
Yes, I'm a Spyderco guy.
The fancy new stuff will Never replace the old handme downs from the Old Man. I still shoot the .22s I grew up with and they never failed to put a smile on My face. I enjoyed the video and dig the set up. Thanks
I remember my grandaddy taking me to western auto in the late 60's early 70's just to look around. I loved it!
Planning on buying the M&P 22 Compact and the M&P AR15-22. Would love to see your review and thoughts on those models. They're highly recommended elsewhere on the webs. ... Love the channel! ... btw, my LGS has had 22 in stock pretty regularly lately. Hopefully the crazy really is almost over this time.
Who's watching in 2019 while holding a .22 pistol?
I love this guy. I inherited my 22 high standard convertible from my paps. I think the wheel is cracked because it won't kill a chicken point blank. But ill keep it till they pry it out of my cold dead hands
My 597 Remington rifle
And he just tossed the Model 41 magazine down onto the gravel! Those ain't cheap!
sure do remember Western Auto and Revelation firearms! Back in the 60's I used to go into the Western Auto store to gawk and the Bicycles and the Guns! I only bought and used 22 shorts back then...the 22 Longs and Long Rifles were way too expensive!
I just recently realized that .22 shorts were still available! The box is so tiny. I still like them. It's funny to be at a range with this, people are sometimes making a lot of noise, and I'm more in airgun territory. It definitely gets a laugh sometimes. I've never seen a bulk pack of them, maybe a thousand rounds would just be like a quart? Never thought of that until just this moment.
Enjoyed this video, Hickok. Liked hearing about the history behind your first revolver.
CCI SV, your 41 will thank you.
Hey Hickok45 you said the model 41 will drive nails....Could you do a video of the model 41 driving nails??
Jim
hickok ur videos are worth watching, i love listening to the legacy of that revolver
The first handgun that I ever shot was my dad's 1939 H&R Ultra Sportsman .22 break open revolver. He also had a S&W Model 46, the economy version of your 41. They're mine now. I recently added a Browning Nomad, High Standard Supermatic, High Standard Sport King, and High Standard HD Military. Love the old .22s!
Some fine guns there
WOW!!
Hickok- that was the most interesting 20 minutes i've spent in a long time!!
I'd love toy own something like these guns but our government has seen fit to disarm every legal pistol shooter here in Britain whilst the criminals still have their weapons :(
I'd love to sell up and move to the USA :)
You can get a fAC in England, and the only semi-autos we're allowed are .22 LR. Anything bigger is illegal, and handguns have to be of a ridiculous length to be legal.
Thanks gents ;-)
Bacon Sauce I'm from uk and now in usa..... gun heaven
John Flitcroft I'm green with envy mate ;-)
Agree I'm a Brit too and used to love a blast down the local club with colt woodsman Our politicians should burn in hell
Idc who you are. Shooting .22's always makes for a great time.
Every gun video I manage to find, is made by Hickok45... this guy is amazing.
@12799MaDeuce , Yep, same gun. High Standard made these for Western Auto under the name Revelation.
Lord knows - I *miss* Western Auto
I just love the fact that St. Louis was part of the history. Ny hometown. #GoCards
Kenneth McClain Cardinals for 2015 world series
I have owned a couple of those Hi Standard revolvers, they really are top notch guns.
grew up near St. Louis and remember Western Auto. Always nice to see your take on different guns. recently got my son a 22 bolt action, I think I need to get one myself. Thanks again fo the vid.!
I'm a gun nut who would play with guns all day long - fear me.
powder smell is addictive lol
It's my favorite smell, especially on a cool spring morning. Warms you right up.
Your the man hickok, thanks again for the great vids.
You win the jackpot! That's what I carry.
western auto sold guns until the late 80's. Right up the road from the piggly wiggly. Lol
I own several guns which were purchased at Western Tre and Auto. I remember buying guns when I was 15 or 16 YO at various outlets. I was rejected at sale of a BB gun at a "5 and Dime" and went a couple doors down the street and bought a .410 instead.
+sysjls75 we grew up in a great era.
that's awesome...sad how it is now.
ace yabishh it is
My uncle bought a .44 magnum from a payless (shoe store)
Any idea where I can get a jug of 5000 rounds of 22LR?
Australia, plenty of .22LR here. Just look forward to $9 per 50 for average winchester.
whiskeyinthejar24 ouch
Love it! The most cherished guns I own are from my grandpa, because they were his. I take his great grand kids to the range, tell them that "this was your great grandpa's gun" and they take careful aim. I'm proud they don't "throw lead" down great grand dad's guns. They are better than I deserve. :D
I must have missed this video when you uploaded it. Another great job!
I used to have a Revelation 20ga pump that my parents bought me for Christmas when I was about 16! :-)
Alright, born in 1950, huh? The secret is out. :)
I am just interested in why people put requests below a video, which is nearly 7 years old now.
Super Di the same reason we comment on them. Lol
Super Di. Why did you?
for those who don't know,.22s come in different cartrige lenghts and power levels. shorts ,long, long rifle, shot shells. they are all fun to shoot if you have the proper gun to fire them
First firearm I ever fired was an old Winchester pump action .22, made in 1906. Still shoots like a dream. You can feed that gun ANYTHING in LR or short. Love it :)
I agree that a 22 LR may not stop a drugged up intruder bent on harming you, but it can be a good cartridge in most cases if you want to use an actual firearm but also if you want to give the intruder a chance to run away and come out of it alive. I think that it would be a traumatizing event for any of us to actually have to use, say a 12 gauge or comparable round on a human... to the point where you might hesitate the next time if you had to do it repeatedly (like in a SHTF scenario).
I'm not very experienced but judging by some ballistics tests, it seems that a 22 LR would do the job at frightening the bad guy but still giving them more of a chance of survival than if they were hit with a larger round. If you have a semi-auto, you can always shoot multiple times.
If you have a firearm for self defence, you have to be ready to kill. Pretty useless putting a .22LR in someones leg etc.....
.22 rapid fire + intruders face =good enough
shot placement is key
I like my old plinker single 6 .22. I can place a shot wherever I need to. .22 gets a weak rep but it is just fine in the right hands.
caktalfraktal Aiming for the right spot with .22 is important. 2 to the chest, the rest, to the cranium. 22 will shatter any skull on Earth. Period! I don't mean to sound brutal. As I would HATE to have to shoot another human being. Just being honest tho.....
"every good firearm owner, Owns atleast one rimfire!" -Marine052191
Im glad you guys got better filming equipment !.. cool classic Hickok !!!
The first handgun I ever fired was a .22 revolver as well. It is an old H&R 6-shot Gunfighter that belonged to my great-grandfather. And I still have it. It's a little rough around the edges, but it still shoots great and accurately. I really enjoy it.
My great aunt bought my dad a Revelation model 105 bolt action 7 shot magazine 22 rifle (made by Marlin for Western Auto) in 1967. He still has it, and it will be mine someday. Absolute tack driver!
Only Hickok can walk into a bank with a revolver, request access to the Safety deposit boxes...and be granted it!

LMAO
Just got back from the range shooting my new 455 CZ. I hadn't shot a single round of anything since around 2008. Sighted her in at 25 yards on paper, then set up my spinner steel target at 50 and started plinking away. Oh my goodness! I had always wanted one of those spinners and I forgot how fun plinking was. What fun. I felt like a kid again. I can't wait to get out in the field again hunting woodchucks.
Yes, Middle Tennessee.
Back in the early 50s my dad and I would go to Sears Roebuck every Saturday morning to get needed hardware for his weekend repairs. The first place we always stopped was the gun area were I would check out all the .22 s, back then you could even buy Sears own .22 ammo. I remember it was real cheap about $3.50 for 1000 rds. After we finish the chores we would plink for whatever was left of the weekend. Didn't know how good we had it.
I do recall western auto . bought my first 30-30 from the one in town . I have a 12ga my dad got in 1945 when he got out of WWII . Very cool story of your revolver .
You can tell that revolver means a lot to him.
Thanks for sharing Hickok45.
Yes, I believe that' s it.
@Signodelight , Mine has been utterly reliable and shoots great. Have you seen my "1911 at 230 yards" video? I chose it for that video because it has such a great trigger.
Love rimfire and airgun fun ! Great video
@billt460 , I probably have before; it seems to shoot anything I"ve put in it.
Like a year of so ago I saw this video (and this was my first Hickok video that I saw) and I thought man I wish I had a Dad or Grandpa like you Hickok.
I really enjoy your videos, very informative. I also like your shooting range, very cool.
Love your stories .. 11 years ago
i love the fact you still have your dads gun.. really great vids Hickok, all the way from the UK.
Thanks for pointing out how things
used to be back in 1960 .We are down
to about 1 place in Salisbury MD where
we can buy a good selection of handguns.
We need to remind the young generation
what it was like to live in a free country.
Great Video!
Henry makes some great plinking lever actions and a slick pump action .22
My first gun is a High Standard Sport King model 103. It is as accurate as any gun ever made. I bought it Gibson's Discount Center. It was my go to gun of choice until the Glock pistols arrived on the scene. I love the gun still.
Nice video. Appreciate you taking the time to produce and post it here.
I bought a Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit for my Glock 21 and it works very well and I can shoot it accurateley. Nice video as always from my favorite youtuber Hickock .45.
