Badass? He's soft in this version. He's smaller, voice isn't as deep. Got a beta hair cut and just doesn't give off that leader vibe he used to.

I really like the touch of utilizing Cyclops' beam for propulsion in this. That's something that was pretty much ignored for the whole original series.
And giving recognition to how powerful Storm actually is. Playing it up rather than showing it as just another power. You finally feel the impact of how she controls the freaking weather!
Using Cyclops' beams as propulsion was ignored previously because it doesn't work like that.

@@gregthesplintercellHis optic blasts come from a portal in his eyes to another dimension, thus the pushback goes back into that dimension, and cyclops himself isn't affected by recoil. But they seem to be doing a "rule of cool" thing here, which I'm fine with. Or maybe he can feel the recoil only when it benefits him...?

So good to see her recognized for the powerhouse that she is because outside of Jean with the Phoenix Force, Storm was EASILY the most powerful X-Men from the 90s show!
Too bad they had to nerf her in Episode 2...
Storm was always an Omega level mutant. So is Gambit, he is incredibly powerful but he has always been nerfed outside of the comics. Gambit is so powerful, he was scared of his own powers so he asked Mr. Sinister to make him weaker.
She’s powerful but vulnerable, a glass canon who can’t really take a hit, which is why they had her waiting outside the Sentinel battlefield.
But there's a reason for that nerf and based on the titles of the episodes, it's not gonna be long before she comes back like the Goddess she is...
Heheheh... Nobody nerfs Ororo. I think you're gonna enjoy the rest of the season. Seriously. Enjoy it. Don't read up on how this story plays out in the comics. I mean, no guarantee they even stick to the comics, but I absolutely trust they're going to do good by our Goddess. They've already done great by our favourite boyscout!! 😂
Not nerfed but following one of the best X-men comic runs where she loses her powers but goes on a quest of discovery to only come back stronger
I will say, with that "nerfed" character, that storyline in the comics was some of their best stuff up until Krakoa. It showed that this character is still a badass even without the powers and firced the writer to dwell on who they are a person, not just a powerhouse.
I think her story arc will have something to do with the Morlocks coz technically she is still their leader.

A lot of people are upset about the team changing the roster, but I would love to see Nightcrawler (hinted to return), Colossus, and other X-Men in this universe actually join the team and be regulars.

I'm just happy this particular version of the X-Men is back & at the forefront of pop culture where they've always belonged!
I hope we can get some direct-to-video/On Demand major comic arcs adapted in this universe as 2 or 3 part movies between the later seasons. Like the DCAU does, because as great as the storytelling is in X-Men 97, so much has happened in the comics since that era & trying to cram everything into 10 episodes for however many seasons, will still come up short.
LOVED the premiere & can't wait to see what else awaits us!
Fun Fact. The voice of Storm is Alison Sealy-Smith who has Barbadian heritage. Was nice to know since pop culture wasn't as celebrated in the Caribbean as it is now back in the 90-s
Yeah, I'm glad they decided to make it a continuation of the original series rather than start the story over with a reboot. I loved the original series as a kid and am excited to see it continue. I watched the first two episodes and loved them, looking forward to the rest of the season. 👍

But I agree, let's hope they manage to not take all season for that part, especially since it seems other popular arcs from the comics might be done / referenced as well
Can’t we appreciate the drama of someone forced to cope with a huge part of them being taken? It wasn’t about nerfing as much as it is exploring the deeply connected roots to Mother Nature Storm has, the trauma of losing your autonomy. It’s so bad she has to immediately leave the mansion and pretend she was living someone else’s life.
And just before all this, she had the most boss-like moment telling the judges to STFU if they want to survive. That in addition to the forecast did her more justice than all the movies combined, I think we good even if she didn’t get her powers back.

I love when Rouge RKO'ed the Sentinel.
That part had me cracking up 😂 To see her throw herself into the Sentinel's face like "smack!" and then suplex it was hilarious 😂

The intro for X-men 97 made me feel like a kid again when I watched X-men on Saturday mornings on Fox kids. The first two episodes of X-men 97 were really good and I’m excited to see more episodes on Disney + and also nice new intro to your channel.

They changed Rouge intro go back and look at it in the 97 intro when the Sentinel grabs her she jumps way higher and slams the sentinel into the ground thumbs up 👍 on that small change but it’s really cool

Yeah I'm REALLY curious if they will bring other Marvel characters in this series... not MCU specifically, but just other Marvel characters like the 90s Spider-Man series did.
I think we will see Storm's relationship with Forge rather than T'challa

I was an x-men evolution kid but the reaction from the fans who grew up with the original series is nothing short of heartwarming. There is already so much love for this show and I hope more people can discover and enjoy it now.

Subtle? in the Genosha episode Gambit Storm and Jubilee were put in a Chain gang, and storm locked in a Hot Box. I X-men tas didn't pull a "Knowing is half the battle". Subtle is suppose is a matter of perspective.
I’m exactly with you on the worry on what’s going on with that favorite character. They’re one of my favorites too, and I’d hate for them not to be able to do their awesome status-quo action.

@@KariIzumi1 I believe it was just called Linda, or something like that. If you search for it on YT, it’s not that hard to find. It has a lead in, so the X-Men sounding starts a few seconds in. The actual X-Men theme sounds way better though.

I was super happy to see they didn't go crazy and change the core of what made it great.
First 3 episodes have been PHENOMENAL! I can't get over how incredible they've been. Episode 3 especially was insane and I freakin' love it

First and foremost I really like your review and your humor and your hopeful spirit and attitude towards this show and I truly appreciate how it makes you want to go back and watch the original series again but I have to say that I personally have a bit of a different perspective on the new show myself. I am enjoying it so far but I also have trouble myself of saying that it really is a direct connection and sequel to the original series because I just feel that there are certain things that don’t match up for me so I just can’t see it in that light myself but I genuinely enjoyed the first three episodes and I think that this series could be fantastic down the line with a few tweaks here and there. Thank you so much for this video though and sharing your thoughts with us! Always love your videos!

I'm just ridiculously impressed by how much story threads form the actual comics the writers have been able to condense in just these first three episodes alone, yet it (mostly) doesn't feel forced or make the storytelling suffer because of it.

Understand, but I like that the new series isn't SO deep cut that you can still easily follow it even if you haven't seen every episode of the original.

@@spinjitzumasterfalconhonestly if you have a halfway decent knowledge of the Xmen you don't need to watch the original series. The first episode is basically a half hour recap episode to the point that some of the original fans got annoyed. Episode two though... Chefs kiss, amazing episode!
@@BlackNerdComedyok, so I decided to just watch the entire original series and I’m kinda glad I did because the story feels so much more connected.
The way I've been waiting on this review 😂 Episode 3 has me believing the whole season will be good. I love 90s and early 2000s superhero animated shows because they knew how to give us drama, romance, and action in a way that really keeps you engaged. So far, X-Men '97 is bringing those elements and I'm thoroughly enjoying this show (even though, yes, they do cut corners on the animation sometimes).
These first two episodes were glorious and truly brought me back to my childhood. The drama, the fun, it had it all. And I can't help but feel some of those Saturday morning cartoon moments with the animation are intentional, to really evoke that sense of nostalgia, like this came from that era. Obviously it didn't, but it adds a charm all its own that helps it stand out more. And I am impressed with how they make it easy to go into if you haven't seen the original series. And speaking as someone that rewatched the entire series leading up to the day before it came out, it is both a masterful continuation and stands on its own marvelously.
This series permiere was amazing, especially how we got to see the team in action during episode 1. I was confused at first when Morph transformed into other x-men characters, the Lady Deathstrike cameo confused until Morph chaned into Colossus. Nice idea to use him as a way to use cameo characters.
And Magneto, never test a man trying to change his ways 'cause he can easily be your worst enemy. Plus, that ending of episode 2, everything I know about that character's relationships to others immediately fell into place when that reveal came. I really wanna watch the next episode, but I also just wanna wait until all of it is released so I can just binge it.
I loved watching Xmen 97 and i will watch the rest as they come out. This was definitely my favorite cartoon of the 90's and now Bishop is moving up on my cosplay goals list.

@@BlackNerdComedy just realized since x-men 1997 would be set during the 4th or 5th season of spiderman. so peter/spiderman couldn't really guest star until season 3 or later of x-men 1997. unless the crossover takes place between episodes of his show.
I haven't watched the ENTIRE 2 episodes, having to rely on clips here on CZcams, but I've seen enough to have experienced both and... My God, it is GOOD!
The fact they brought back Cyclops' NOT was so silly, it was hilarious.
I loved Morph using his powers to physically fight as different Mutants. It kept the FoH on their toes... though it's a good thing Wolverine wasn't there when he took Deathstrike's form. THAT would've been uncomfortable for all.
Magneto trying to be good felt so odd, but natural.
His reaction to Storm losing her powers? It really showed his desire to live up to Xavier's final wishes means a lot to him, but that he's not going to just let things slide as if nothing bad happened.

Morph turning into Sabre-tooth so Wolverine could let off some steam? Sweet.
And that shock ending of another Jean? WHAT?
My only guess is, either it means the Jean we've been with for who knows how long is a clone, meaning Scott had his first child with a clone or, the Jean revealed at the end is the clone meant to make everyone doubt whether Nathan's mother is the real Jean or not.
Either way, thing's just got WAY more complicated

The pace is wild, it's breakneck but somehow manages to feel impactful. Marvel Animation just knocking it out of the park lately.
beast jumping into the sentinal and controlling him to fight was fire, and love how they're utilizing cyclops's blast more with defensive moves...also when "jean" started going into labor and wolverines repsonse was epic
The whole UN part of ep two is fantastic and when Magneto got pissed and took them up in the sky… 😮💨😮💨😮💨🔥
One of the nice touches was that a kid was rocking a cassette tape Walkman. I thought that was pretty impressive little touch to ground it in the 90's
I watched it for the third time this Saturday morning with pancakes and milk. Next Saturday it's either Lucky Charms or Sugar Golden Crisps. ❤

I'll admit I grew up with the mcu so there's definitely plenty of marvel stuff I just haven't seen. I've read comics here and there and obviously had the toys as a kid, and I love to research and get some background on new stuff they bring into the mcu. But man the hype I got from the X-Men 97 trailer can't be put into words. I'm about halfway through my binge of the original series and absolutely loving it. Some of these characters that I knew nothing about have become my favorites, so I can firmly say X-Men 97 is responsible for turning me into a full on X-Men fan. Now I just gotta get me some of them X-Men figures for the collection.

Say, unrelated to X-Men but speaking of old adaptations of comics, did you watch the 80s cartoon of Dennis the Menace? The one they animated i'm Japan. When I was a kid I didn't like it, Buy watch it as an adult. It's amazing! Should be celebrated more.
